2019 Scholarship Judges Needed!
Greetings Chapter Basilei, The Educational Advancement Foundation, Inc. is conducting its 2019 Graduate Scholarship Application Judging. We are in great need of volunteer judges to participate in this process. The number of in-house scholarship applications we receive has grown over the years, which has increased our need for willing volunteers. This year I am pleased to announce that we received over 500 graduate scholarship applications!
Please forward this email to your chapter members as there may some with plans to be in Chicago and have a bit of time to volunteer. We offer scholarships in two categories; Financial Need and Merit-Based. Judging typically takes a minimum of one to two hours. For flexibility, two sessions are being held at the Corporate Office: Wednesday, September 25th and Thursday, September 26th from 10:00 A.M.-7:00 P.M. You can arrive any time during the session that best suits your schedule. Refreshments will be served throughout the sessions. Please e-mail the dates you plan to participate along with your estimated time of arrival to: Scholarship Judging, at [email protected]. Thank you in advance for your support and participation in this critical process. If you have questions, please call the EAF office at773-947-0026 or via email [email protected].

Breast Cancer Awareness Impact Day/Silent Auction - October 7th (Gift Basket Request) Alpha Kappa Alpha's Breast Cancer Awareness Impact Day is on October 7th. Target 2 - Women's Healthcare & Wellness is planning a dynamic and interactive event for the community and sorors. Please stay tuned for details about the event and registration. One aspect of the event is a Silent Auction with proceeds being donated to Painted Pink, Inc. -a 501(c) 3 nonprofit dedicated to educating every millennial on breast health. They empower millennials to take charge of their breast health and provide to mentors, resources, and medical professionals who understand the intersection of breast health and the realities of breast cancer for this generation. We are asking every committee in our chapter to consider partnering with another committee and donating a gift basket for the Silent Auction. Gift Baskets may be purchased or created - it's up to you! Below are committee assignments for your convenience. If you have another theme you like, please let us know - you may contact Soror Dorothy Augustine-Gartrell with any questions.

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER The word for the month of September is: Patience
There's a song, recorded by the late James Cleveland that says: "Please be patient with me, God is not through with me yet, When God gets through with me, I shall come forth, like pure gold". Just as God is patient with us, we should be patient with others. Our children, our friends, coworkers, and others may not measure up to our expectations, patience is needed. Some are still evolving, others are developing, and realizing their purpose. Please be just as patient with them, as God is with us. Quote of the week: "Patience is not simply the ability to wait--it's how we behave while we're waiting " Joyce Meyer Scripture of the week: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud". 1 Corinthians 13:4-4

Organizing and Managing Your Finances
Knowing where your accounts are, how to access them and what those accounts contain
is crucial to smart financial management. When you keep your financial information in
one place and up to date, you can help ease stress on yourself, your family or other
beneficiaries.
• Get organized, for yourself and your loved ones
• Maintain important documents and share key information. This will provide peace
of mind should anything unexpected occur. Be sure to periodically walk a spouse,
partner, adult child or trusted friend through legal and financial records, PIN
numbers, passwords and other personal information.
Complete the attached checklist “Tips to Organize and Manage Your Finances” to get
started.
