MICHAEL PULLEN - Head Coach

Coach Michael Pullen is in his fifth year of teaching and coaching at HPHS, with a total of nine years of experience in the profession. This is Coach Pullen’s third year as Head Coach of HPSB, after serving as Varsity Assistant for two years. Coach Pullen teaches Pre-AP World Geography at HPHS. Previously, Coach Pullen taught four years in Palmer ISD while also coaching football and golf; and he taught one year in Terrell ISD where he coached baseball and football. While attending college, Coach Pullen coached for two years as the varsity assistant for the Oxford High School softball team. Coach Pullen is a 1997 graduate from HPHS and a 2004 graduate from Ole Miss. He recently received his master’s degree from Texas A&M – Commerce. He is married to the former Rachel Pharo, also a graduate of HPHS class of 2000, and former Lady Scot Softball Captain. They have two children: Ben (9) is a fourth-grader and Bradley (5) is a kindergartenstudent, both at Hyer Elementary.

SCOTS SOFTBALL COACHING STAFF

LEIGH VICKERYAssistant Coach

Assistant Coach Leigh Vickery is in her third year at Highland Park High School. This is her 13th year in teaching and currently in the Special Education and

History departments. She previously taught at Valley View ISD where she served as Head Basketball and Softball Coach, Assistant Volleyball Coach, and the Girls Athletic Coordinator. In 2013, while coaching at Valley View, she recieved Coach of the Year. Prior to working in Valley View, Coach Vickery served as Assistant Volleyball and Basketball Coach at Grand Saline ISD. She started her teaching career at Spring Hill ISD where she served as a middle school sports coach and varsity assis-tant softball coach. Coach Vickery graduated from LeTourneau University in 2006. She played basketball and softball there and received her All-Level Kinesiology Education degree.

APRIL BURNSJV Coach Coach April Burns is in her sec-ond year of teaching and coaching at HPHS, with a total of six years of experi-ence throughout Kansas and Texas. Coach Burns cur-rently teaches Geometry and coaches the Freshman Volleyball and JV Softball

teams. She previously taught at Quinlan ISD for one year, Chaparral Schools (Kansas) for three years, and Great Bend (Kansas) for one year. She has taught everything from sixth grade math to high school Geometry and has coached JV and freshman volley-ball, and middle school basketball and track. Coach Burns graduated from Sterling College in 2012, where she played volleyball. She received her Bachelors of Science in Mathematics, and Endorsement in Education.

SAVANNAH VARDELLAssistant Coach

Coach Savannah Vardell is in her third year in HPISD. This is her second year teach-ing in Special Education. She graduated from Texas Tech University in 2016 after going to The University of

Oklahoma for two years. She has played softball since she was four years old. She is helping coach the team again and working especially with catch-ers.
