INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED DRAWING & PAINTING OPEN STUDIODevelop your artistic vision and expand your drawing and painting skills in a dynamic open studio environment with individual and class critiques. Students will work closely with the instructor to create art that speaks to issues relevant to their life. Prerequisites: Beginning Drawing and Beginning Painting

FIGURE DRAWINGStudy the elements of figure drawing and develop the ability to render the human form. The emphasis of this class will be placed on gaining an understanding of the skeleton, muscles, and weight of the body while building skills to represent expression, movement, value, and form in your drawing.

BEGINNING DRAWINGDevelop the fundamental skills needed to create representational drawings and gain the confidence to explore new art mediums. Your skills and understanding will progress with the introduction of spatial relationships, perspective, and mark making. This class is a recommended prerequisite for painting, watercolor, and figure drawing.

The basics of color mixing using transparent watercolor and a limited color palette will be explored. Prerequisite: Beginning Drawing

WATERCOLOR PORTRAITSDevelop the ability to render a portrait by combining proportion, perspective, contour, value, and tone as it applies to the human head. Learn to use watercolor to develop the planes and volumes of the face. Beginning watercolor students will focus on monochromatic value and advanced students will work on developing flesh tones. Prerequisite: Beginning Drawing

PRINTMAKING

MONOTYPE PRINTMAKING & OPEN STUDIOExplore the expressive and spontaneous process of monotype printmaking. Create paintings on glass with inks or watercolors and then transfer and layer the images on paper using printmaking techniques. The monotype process encourages experimentation in color, layering, and mark making while creating a surface that is unlike any other medium. Prerequisite: Beginning Drawing

PHOTOGRAPHY

FUNDAMENTALS OF DIGITAL SLR PHOTOGRAPHY & IMAGE EDITINGStudy the art of digital single–lens reflex (SLR) photography, from the camera to the computer. Gain an understanding of shutter speed, aperture, histograms, and white balance and learn how to process, edit, and manipulate photographs in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Digital SLR camera required. Material fee covers the cost of basic printing and a flash drive. Tuition includes Thursday evening open studios from 5:30 – 8:30 pm.

CALLIGRAPHY: HISTORIC HANDSAdd flourish and flair to your journals, artwork, and letter writing. Learn the foundations of calligraphy using the proper tools and techniques. Focus will be on historic lettering styles such as Uncial, Humanist, traditional Italic, Bâtarde, and Gothic/Blackletter.

MOSAICSGain inspiration from traditional and contemporary mosaic work. Use colorful glass, tile, and ceramic pieces to create beautiful patterns, designs, or images as you learn how to cut and shape glass and secure it to a surface before finishing the design with grout.

3D MIXED MEDIA SCULPTURE (new)Add painting and collage to your sculptures or sculpture to your paintings! Use found objects such as furniture, thrift store finds, or memorabilia as a starting point for your inspiration and learn to unify your composition using traditional materials such as paint, mosaic, adhesives, and collage.

FELTINGDiscover wool and its unique quality to lock the fibers together and form fabric or 3-dimensional objects.
