This is critical to a smooth first day for everyone. Your child should know how they are getting home each day before they leave for school. Please avoid changing plans at the last minute as this is confusing for students and makes it very difficult when the office is managing a large volume of calls at the end of the day. Drop Off/Pickup Doors open at 7:15 a.m. for morning drop off. 4th grade students arriving from 7:15 a.m. to 7:35 a.m. will go to the 4th grade gym and be seated with their homeroom class. 5th and 6th grade students arriving from 7:15 a.m. to 7:35 a.m. will go to the BIG gym and be seated with their homeroom class. Students who arrive from 7:35 a.m. to 7:50 a.m. will go directly to their home room class. The school day begins at 7:50 a.m. so doors lock at that time and students arriving after 7:50 a.m. should be checked in through the front office. Classes dismiss at 3:10 p.m. and traffic is very heavy until about 3:20 p.m. If you have children at an elementary school, please pick them up first before you come to DIS. DIS students not picked up by 3:30 p.m. will be moved to the front entrance and can be picked up there. (Realize the first week will be hectic at drop off and dismissal so please be patient and adjust your schedule accordingly.) 4th Graders should be dropped off on the 4th grade side near the gym entrance. 4th grade pick up will also be on the 4th grade side at the designated spot, based on your child’s teacher. There will be signs with their teacher name. Waiting until after 3:10 p.m. usually helps with traffic flow. Students not picked up by 3:30ish will be taken to the front entrance of the building and should be picked up there. 5th Graders should be dropped off on the 5th/6th grade side and enter the building through the front entrance. No parents should be dropping off or picking up from Grand Street. This is for buses ONLY. Classes dismiss at 3:10 p.m. and traffic is very heavy until about 3:30 p.m. 5th grade car riders will be standing with their last period teacher group on the south side of the building along the sidewalk. 5th grade parents need to be in the left lane for student pick up. You can deposit money into your child’s lunch/breakfast account at www.myschoolbucks.com. This link can be found on the Durant ISD website. To sign up the first time you will need your student’s ID number. The student ID number can be found on the parent portal, student schedule or an old report card. Parents are strongly encouraged to fill out the free/reduced lunch form that can be found on the Durant ISD website. Many families qualify even though they think they might not. Breakfast is free at DIS to all students who wish to eat. The lunch cost is $.10 to $3.00 depending on free/reduced lunch qualifications.

Parent Communication at DIS Good parent communication is a goal at DIS - please be sure to sign up for any text alerts your child's teacher sends out as well as keep your phone/address/email current with our office. Be sure you are signed up for the parent portal if you have not already– it allows you to login and check grades/attendance/discipline as well as lunch balance. All sites have newsletters and to sign up for our newsletter, go to http://www.durantisd.org/newsletter. All school wide information and important school dates are sent through the newsletter. We have a school nurse who manages any necessary medications for your child. Nurse Lockler may be reached at 580-916-7163. Textbooks are checked out to students electronically. Any books damaged or not turned in at the end of year will have to be reimbursed to the school. Book prices range from $45-$100. Some students still have textbooks and library books that were not returned from last year. If you have these please return them as soon as possible. If your child will be out sick, please call our main office at 924-1397 to report the absence. If your child has seen the doctor, please bring a doctor's slip to the main office or you can fax one to: 580-920-7940 or email to [email protected]. Students not in compliance with compulsory attendance laws will be invited to Attendance Court. All absences, regardless of the reason, affects our school’s report card. Please make sure your child is present every day.

Durant Intermediate School Dress Code

The age of DIS students brings developmental changes and a lot of growth during their school year, therefore, what meets dress code in the fall, may not meet dress code in the spring.

We ask that spaghetti straps NOT be worn. All undergarments must be hidden from sight by the pants or shirt.

Shorts, dresses, or skirts should reach fingers and no holes should be showing in clothing above fingers as well. Running shorts are generally NOT acceptable. Students should avoid wearing cut off sleeves with large armholes.

Tight fitting knitwear is prohibited unless covered by a garment that reach the fingers. This includes but is not limited to yoga pants, leggings, biking shorts, spandex or other tight fitting garments. Clothing with logos or words printed on the seat is prohibited.

Students may not wear clothing, face coverings, or accessories that display symbols, pictures, lettering or numbering that is profane, vulgar, repulsive, interpreted as sexual innuendo, or obscene or that advertises or promotes dangerous weapons, tobacco, alcoholic beverages, low point beer, illegal or illicit drugs, drug-related items, drug paraphernalia, or other items or activities that are illegal for the general population or for minors.

Modesty is our general rule. Flip flops may be worn but are discouraged due to daily recess and PE.

Caps/Hats may be worn outside only with the exception of designated hat days.

Morning Drop-Off Procedures: Students should not be dropped off before 7:15 a.m. and it will help us with social distancing if your child is dropped off closer to 7:30 a.m. Students should not stand in large groups to wait for their school day to begin. Parents will not be escorting their children into the building. All parents will be asked to remain in their cars and drive through the drop-off line to help ensure student safety from vehicle to school. Please don’t wait until you’re in front of the gym doors to let children out as this slows down traffic. To help with traffic congestion, please encourage your child to get out quickly. Please allow 2-3 weeks for traffic to adjust.

Afternoon Pick-Up Procedures: Students will come out at 3:10 p.m. and will be standing in groups by teaching team and should social distance as much as possible. Students not picked up by 3:30 p.m. will move to the 4th grade gym entrance with Mrs. Gosnell to watch for parents. If there is bad weather, we will adjust accordingly by using the covered areas or the inside hall just inside the same areas. Walkers must go out the main entrance unless they walk to the Chuckwa area, then they should meet by the 4th computer lab. Thank you for your patience as students and staff learn a new routine.

morning beginning at 7:15 a.m. and walk to the main entrance to enter the building. Students should walk

straight to the BIG (5th/6th Grade) gym if arriving before 7:35. Teachers will pickup classes at 7:35 to go to

the classrooms for breakfast, so if you child arrive after 7:35, he or she will go straight to the classroom. If

necessary, you may still drop your child off in the 4th grade loop, and your child can enter through the 4th
