Program Overview

The StudyPerth International Student Ambassador program creates a rich and supportive community for prospective and current international students in Perth by sharing experience and knowledge. Volunteer ambassadors have the opportunity to represent international students at events and official functions to better inform the wider community about the role international education plays and to promote Perth as a destination. Volunteer ambassadors will receive the opportunity to develop leadership, communication and marketing skills through professional development workshops and experiences.

Position Roles and Responsibilities

The StudyPerth International Student Ambassadors will write blogs about their Perth education experience, promote Perth as a leading education option on their social media accounts, actively participate in student engagement initiatives and mentor potential international students through our Buddy Program. They will be required to commit approximately six hours each month during the 18-month program between August 2020 and November 2021 (excluding an inactive period between December and January).

Responsibilities include:

• Share your experiences living and/or studying in Perth through blogs and social media • Play an active role in StudyPerth’s student engagement initiatives • Develop your professional skills through training and workshops organised by StudyPerth • Represent StudyPerth and the international student community through networking • Participate in a debrief session every second month to provide feedback on your Ambassador experience • Actively mentor potential international students interested in living and/or studying in Perth through StudyPerth’s online portal, ProsPER • Train and mentor the next round of Ambassadors between October – November 2021

ROLE DESCRIPTION Eligibility

Essential:

• Be an international student at a CRICOS registered education institution • Studying for at least a 6-month period between July 2020 to November 2021 • Commit to attend an induction workshop (online option available) • Commit to the program for the entire 18-month duration (until November 2021) • Commit to at least six hours per month for this program (including attendance at events and professional development workshops, participation in activities and social media responsibilities and meet ups)

Desirable:

• Photography skills (ability to capture good quality images) • Interest in developing public speaking • Good social media presence

• Group professional development workshops valued at over $2,000 • $650.00 allocation to attend your own professional development workshops of choice* • Corporate photo shoot valued at $100.00 (hair and makeup included)

How to Apply

Please read the Role Description carefully to make sure you meet the program requirements and selection criteria before applying. There will be a three-stage selection process for the StudyPerth International Student Ambassador Program. Your demonstrated professionalism, attitude and commitment throughout the application process will be taken into account.

1. Online application

You need to submit your online application by Monday 29th of June 2020. The online application includes a registration form and a 300-word sample blog post. Please use one of the following topics or choose your own:

• Compare life in Perth to your hometown. • Describe what you’re expecting from your time in Perth and why. • What is your favourite thing about Perth? • What are you most looking forward to seeing in Western Australia? • Why did you choose to study at a Western Australian institution?

2. Self-presentation

Self-presentation videos will need to be submitted by Tuesday the 7th of July 2020. Short listed applicants will be required to create a self-presentation, maximum two-minute video about themselves answering questions about why you chose to study and/or live in Perth. These questions will be sent to you if you are shortlisted for the next stage of the application process.

3. Informal chat

The top candidates will be invited to attend an informal chat to confirm their suitability for the role. Up to ten students will be selected for the program.

The informal chats will be held between the 13th - 17th of July.
