EQUATION SHEET

As on a traditional AP Exam, students will require access to the AP Physics 1 formula sheet, as appropriate, and should download and print it BEFORE THE EXAM.

The official AP Physics1 Equation Reference Sheet is available to download and print both on the class website and your Schoology class materials.

CALCULATOR USE

Questions on the 2020 AP Physics 1 Exam are designed such that required calculations can be done with a pencil and paper, with no calculator required. However, use of a calculator is allowed and may be helpful. Simple calculators are freely available as apps for computers and phones, and can be installed beforehand for use on the exam.

OPEN BOOK and OPEN NOTE EXAM

This year’s AP Exams will be OPEN BOOK and OPEN NOTE. Things to remember:

Open book/open note exams are not easy – AP exams take more than copying information from notes.

You will still need to prepare for the exam – having resources available may save you time in memorizing, but you still need to know how to apply information.

More materials aren’t always better.You have limited time – the more time you spend looking for information,

the less time you have to write your answer.You should not copy responses from notes or resources – the questions are

designed to apply concepts in new ways.Your class notes are better than Internet searches – the Internet is a source

of misinformation, diverging opinions, and manipulated content.Collaborating with others is not considered acceptable open notes …

EXAM SECURITY

It is strictly forbidden to give or receive aid during the exam. Any students found using the work of others, exchanging or sharing information on exam topics, collaborating via any online platform, or soliciting tips for problem-solving approaches will be investigated for violating exam security.

EXAM SECURITY

The exam format and questions are being designed specifically for an at-home administration, so points will not be earned from content that can be found in textbooks or online.

Each subject’s exam will be taken on the same day at the same time, worldwide.

On test day, students will be required to verify their identity and confirm the work they submitted is their own.

The College Board is using a range of digital security tools and techniques, including plagiarism detection software and post-administration analytics, to protect the integrity of the exams.

In addition, each student’s AP teacher will receive copies of the work the student submits, enabling teachers to spot inconsistencies with students’ known work.

SECURITY VIOLATION CONSEQUENCES

Responses that mirror online content or other students’ submissions will have their scores canceled.

Students sharing or receiving exam content or responses will be blocked from testing and their scores will be canceled. This includes communications or assistance in-person, via the Internet, social media, or any other means.

If it is determined that a student gained an unfair advantage, the school will be notified so that the school can take appropriate disciplinary action. The College Board will also provide information about the incident to colleges or other organizations to which the student has sent any College Board scores (including the SAT)

Students who attempt to gain an unfair advantage may also be prohibited from taking any future AP exam or other College Board test.

TAKING THE EXAM

In late April, the College Board will provide AP students and educators with information on how to access the testing system on test day, and video demonstrations so that students can familiarize themselves with the system.

Students will be able to take exams on any device you have access to –computer, tablet, or smartphone. You will be able to type and upload your responses or write responses by hand and submit a photo via your cell phone.
