The NEC Board has decided to cancel the 2020 convention due to concerns over the spread of the coronavirus. We wish all well during this time. We are finalizing the 2021 convention and will have information to share soon. We expect it to be an exciting event! It is my pleasure to officially welcome Erie Aquarium Society (EAS) as a NEC member club. Please see further in this newsletter for more EAS information. We will continue to work together to:

1. Assist local aquarium groups, members of the Council, to obtain program material;

2. Facilitate exchange of information among member groups;

3. Set up standards of judging Tropical Fish, and to train personnel to become qualified judges;

4. Establish and maintain a clearing house of sources of available material relating to the Tropical fish Hobby;

5. Assist in the organization of new groups, or the reactivation of existing groups, where requested;

6. Promote the Tropical Fish Hobby in general, and to urge local groups to obtain all possible publicity concerning their activities by sharing ideas to promote the hobby!

Convention Update The 45th Annual Convention, which was to be held April 17-19, has been cancelled. Facebook: A post on the NEC Facebook page includes some of the information below. With the State of Connecticut moving towards shutting down public gatherings to slow the spread of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the NEC Board of Directors has decided to cancel this year’s 45th Annual Convention. Our concern today is for all our attendees, member clubs and their members. We wish all of you a successful journey through these trying times and see you in 2021. Registration: If you have registered, you will be issued a refund within a few days. Hotel Room Reservations: The Hilton Garden Inn will automatically cancel all room reservations and send notification of the cancellation to the e-mail on file with our attendees. If you do not receive this e-mail. Please contact the hotel at 203-284-0000. Vendors: All vendors and exhibitors will receive a refund within a few days. NEC and Speaker Sponsors: Your donations will be refunded within a few days. Speakers: The speakers scheduled to speak at our convention have been contacted and several have indicated that they will plan on speaking at our 2021 convention. Zebra Pleco Sales: If you have purchased or reserved zebra plecos to be picked up at the convention, please contact Chris Leighton at [email protected] for local pick up or to be shipped to you. Convention 2021: We are looking to find a new date in 2021 with our current venue for an even better, more fabulous 45th version 2 convention. Stay tuned! Leslie

2019 was a great year for the club. The spring auction sold over 1000 items and the fall had almost 700. Auction attendance averages about 115 buyers, 60 sellers, and a total attendance of 175 people. Our club is geographically located so we are just a two-hour drive for hobbyists near Pittsburgh, PA, Buffalo, NY, and Cleveland, OH. Due to this we get a great variety of fish, plants and hobby related items making our auctions unique in the region.
