Principal’s Message Congratulations to Foundation to Year 2 students who returned to school on Tuesday. Girls and boys, your return was long awaited and you and your families have managed the first step of the transition back process admirably.

It was a very cold foggy morning last Tuesday however, right on cue “out of the mist” there gradually appeared the bright colours of the KPS uniform. Balloons on the gates marked the entrance points and slowly but surely KPS family members along with, a large number of Kingsville canines being - very important members of our community came into view. Truly a scene I will not forget and I even managed to ward off some contractors from “Alinta Energy” who came along right at the wrong moment disturbing the peace using chainsaws opposite the school. Not great timing and of course we didn’t want the loud noise with our junior students returning. We were naturally after as peaceful and joyous an experience as possible as they made their way back to school. Luckily the contractors obeyed the Principal and finished the work quickly and left. From 8.45 to 9.30am at every entrance the children approached, stepped over the threshold and, in doing so gained acknowledgement and even some applause from parents and staff as they proudly made their way into the grounds. As Blagma Veljanoska Acting A.P. noted in her compass post on Tuesday afternoon, there were even some foundation students who although they had the option to be walked to class by staff they chose to go it alone. Of course that was under the watchful eyes of staff placed strategically around the school grounds. Congratulations and well done also to KPS parents/care givers who made the effort to find their way to their specified gate at the staggered start times. Your cooperation and patience with regard to the overall process served to reduce the anxiety of students and ensure successful beginnings and endings for each day. It was also great to see so many older siblings in years 3-6 who have come along each day for the walks to and from school and, to support their younger brothers or sisters. I am also pleased to report that in the classrooms and, out in the playground the transition has proceeded very well this week. Whilst we acknowledge and understand that there are some families who have decided to keep their F-2 children home a little longer, attendance this week has been high every day averaging 95% and above that of a number of schools within our network. A huge thank you to all the staff teaching and support staff who have been at the gates am and pm on some days for up to 50 minutes welcoming and, guiding students at the staggered entry times. They have also unlocked and locked gates and provided feedback to assist leadership fine tune, enhance and improve process and practices. To Blagma Veljanoska who as most of us know is what along with her many other skills could be described as an “event management master” our collective thanks. Blagma always thinks big picture she tests, trials, reflects, questions and refers on planning and procedures in working to ensure the best and always, the fairest circumstances for our students, parents and staff. With regard to the transition back to school she has worked closely with leaders across the school and support staff. She has harnessed staff expertise and motivated everyone in taking on board the challenges we have faced and, has put in so many long hours “above and beyond”. The children always respond so well to her personal approach as was demonstrated yesterday by one foundation student who entered the grounds and then made his way to Blagma to ask her would she mind taking him the rest of the way. What a compliment and an endorsement from a student, knowing and feeling confident with one of our long term very skilled but also humble educators. I am confident Blagma, that the community, the students and the staff join with me in applauding your ongoing work, your human touch and, your skills especially in all things logistical.

Moving Forward We look forward now in anticipation to the Year 3-6 students who will be returning triumphantly to school on June 9th. To these 370 “Kingsville Seniors” get ready and we can’t wait to welcome you back. Reminders We appreciate that there will be ongoing questions from parents as children return to school. These may be related to overall health or, general school practices and procedures. Administrative staff in our office however are finding that a number of the queries by phone that are to do with the return of children to school have already been addresses/answered in materials provided to date. Therefore, parents/carers please check back over newsletter, compass posts as available and, teacher information sent to you. You can also access DET and Health Department information online. Just a few points however below to highlight some recent common areas where parents have asked for more information or clarification –

If a child is tested for COVID-19 they do stay at home until results are gained but, a negative result does not then require a medical certificate for children to return to school.

If a staff member is unsure as to whether a student is unwell in the first instance they will contact the parent/carer to discuss any concerns about the health status of the student, and take a precautionary approach, requesting the parent/carer to collect their child if concerns remain. A trained staff member may take the temperature of the student, where appropriate, to support decision making.

At Kingsville we are like all government schools are complying with the consideration of the use of shared equipment at this time, e.g. class sets and library books. If they are used strict hand hygiene practices would be followed before and after use. Please note there is no requirement for books to be placed aside for a given period after use or if loaned to students.

Wall of Hope – Well done to the students below, a large number of acknowledgements today and still more to come over the next few weeks. If you have sent one through and it has not been noted yet please be assured you will be able to spot it in the newsletter before the end of term. Also, keep the new ones coming in particular the 3 – 6 students who are still in remote learning. Rangimarie 6SE, Ruiha 3/4I and Arihia FJH Gemmell sisters you are looking very ready to get back to Lacrose and very well done with the backyard training in isolation. Jacob Stojcevski 2EE & Stephanie Stojcevski 1AM A game you have made up yourself described as – Cornhole (also known regionally as bags, sack toss, or bean bag) is a lawn game in which players take turns throwing 16 ounce bags of corn kernels at a raised platform (board) with a hole in the far end. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the board scores 1 point. Play continues until a team or player reaches or exceeds the score of 21 by means of cancellation scoring. Olive Dillon 6GJ Olive what a great interest and such valuable environmental work – taking part in the Australian Wild Pollination Count - congratulations. Plus piano lessons on Zoom as your smiling teacher “sits” right beside you on the lap top perched on a step ladder – ingenious. Finally, some of your art work over the last few weeks and these are very special. Your use of colour and the “bleeding” brush work and overlaying of colour is at a level that I as an art teacher for many years have rarely seen – what talent you have. If you have names or notes/stories to go with these please send to me so they can be fully shared on the Wall of Hope. Liam O’Shaughnessy 2MC Out walking with your Kingsville camera Twiggy and Bushy and getting to know the locals and building up family traditions. Pearl Persoglia Freeman 2SP Pearl your stunning nearly 4 metre long mural depicts nature in all its glory. Trees, flowers, bushes, a pond, fish, so many different types of birds including a lyre bird and even bees and mountains. This is a unique piece and in almost a Naive art style unaffected but still so detailed, with so much movement and so many things to see. Perhaps you could tell me more about it and we could write a description of all the parts together.
