FreshmanSummer Start Program

Designed to help freshmen make a successful transition to campus life, this innovative six-week program offers admitted first-year students a unique opportunity to take UC Santa Barbara courses for full academic credit and participate in a wide range of academic and social activities.

• Get a head start on academics, with the opportunity to enroll in 7 to 13 units that meet your general education and pre-major requirements.

• Choose from a rich selection of more than 70 undergraduate courses.

• Receive personalized attention from UC Santa Barbara faculty in a small classroom setting and a supportive atmosphere.

• Integrate yourself into a social foundation of over 500 students within FSSP and find a community of friends to rely on throughout your undergraduate career.

• Gain a comprehensive introduction to UCSB services, facilities, and resources.

• Explore special freshman seminars and honors section courses introducing undergraduate research opportunities, internships, and on-campus jobs.

BENEFITS FOR FRESHMEN

FSSP students live on campus in the San Nicolas Residence Hall overlooking

the iconic lagoon and the Pacific Ocean. San Nicolas is conveniently

situated near classrooms, the De La Guerra Dining Commons, and the UC

Santa Barbara Library. FSSP students have easy access to recreation rooms,

FINANCIAL AID To be eligible for FSSP summer

financial aid, students must complete the 2019–2020 FAFSA by June 30th, 2020.

Your 2019–2020 FAFSA is needed in addition to your 2020–2021 FAFSA. Each year, FSSP students are awarded more than $1 million in aid. Receiving financial aid for FSSP does not reduce financial aid for the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters.

SAVE IN THE SUMMER Out-of-state and international students pay the same tuition and fees as California residents during the Summer term. By participating in FSSP and future Summer Sessions, students can save money while pursuing unique opportunities.

TWO EASY STEPS TO ENROLL1. Submit your Statement of Intent

to Register (SIR) for Fall 2020 with the UCSB Office of Admissions by May 1st, 2020.

2. Visit summer.ucsb.edu/fssp and complete the Freshman Summer Start Program online application.
