I am delighted to introduce to you the inaugural Annual Shedley Theatre Program.

This year is set to be an exceptional year for arts and culture in our city, as The Shedley showcases a diverse program of theatre, dance, film and music.

As the principal performing arts venue in northern Adelaide, we are proud to present high-profile artists such as award-winning magician Matt Tarrant in May, cabaret performer and Helpmann Award winner, Michael Griffiths with his show Livvy & Pete in November. Meanwhile, for something a little different, we will present The Paris Underground Cabaret where audiences will experience the dark heart of Paris with a classic French cabaret variety show in June.

These artists headline a calendar heavy with tribute shows, art-house cinema, dance and comedy and complement works by resident companies and community groups presenting all kinds of educational, participatory and accessible community events.

A highlight for 2020 is the return of Playford Palace in March. The Shedley precinct will be transformed into Playford Palace and offer everybody the opportunity to be entertained and inspired in true festival style.

Thank you to those who contributed to the development of the inaugural Shedley Theatre Program. To all our valued partners, facilitators, artists, performers and volunteers – it ’s wonderful to see the performing arts flourish in the City of Playford.

The iconic Shedley Theatre was opened on August 21, 1965 and has been home to numerous resident theatre groups since.

Named after architect Geoff Shedley, the theatre celebrated its 50th anniversary in August 2015. The Shedley Theatre has hosted many high profile acts since its opening and continues to play an integral role in Playford and the wider community.

With a capacity of over 380, the Shedley Theatre boasts a large stage with enormous depth. An orchestra pit not visible from the house sits below stage level and can accommodate a 12 piece band. The design of the stage has earned the reputation for giving its audience the illusion of being part of the production.

Today, the Shedley Theatre is home to the Out of the Square Matinee Series, school holiday productions and annual performances from local amateur theatre groups and schools.

We have also recently had the privilege of hosting high profile acts such as The Wiggles and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

Bandstand, Australia’s longest running TV pop show, hosted by Brian Henderson and featuring the Bandstand Family of singers and dancers, has been recreated by award winning entertainers, Eddie Daniels and Suzie Lee.

Bandstand popularised the talents of Col Joye, Little Patti, Judy Stone, The Seekers, The Bee Gees , Billy Thorpe and many more, turning them into household names, with over 2 million viewers tuning in every week to catch the latest hits and dance moves from around the world.

The Monkey show is aimed at 1 - 8 year olds, and is also great entertainment for all ages. The 2 monkey puppets (Bongo & Congo) play live African drums, lead audiences in songs & dances, and have all sorts of fun along the way. The Monkey show also features beautiful messages, such as caring for the planet, and getting along with one another.

We have a bunch of free School Holiday events planned for 2020. All School Holiday activity will take place in the Great Hall of the Playford Civic Centre. No bookings are required but workshops and activities may reach capacity at certain times in which case participants will be requested to return to a later session.

Select a picture design and have fun peeling away the layers. Sprinkle colourful sand on top and watch your image come to life.

A nutritiously fun and healthy food workshop. Create, shape and mould funky 2D and 3D models using fruit and vegetables. YUM!
