What is SSAF?
Student Services and Amenities Fee
An amount the university requires enrolled students to pay to support the provision of amenities and services of a non –academic nature
Implemented 1 January 2012
Students are required to pay the fee regardless of whether they choose to use any of the services and amenities
All students will be charged unless they are in one of the following exemption categories:
• International offshore students
• International SCU Sydney, SCU Melbourne and SCU Perth
• Studying the Preparing for Success at SCU Program
• Studying the Undergraduate Qualifying Program or the Postgraduate Qualifying Program
• Studying the SCU Head-Start program
• Incoming cross-institutional student
• English language courses students
• Incarcerated students
• Studying a Doctor of Philosophy, Masters by Research, Professional Doctorate Program
What can be SSAF funded?
(a) providing food or drink to students on a campus of thehigher education provider;
(b) supporting a sporting or other recreational activity bystudents;
(c) supporting the administration of a club most of whosemembers are students;
(d) caring for children of students;
(e) providing legal services to students;
(f) promoting the health or welfare of students;
(g) helping students secure accommodation;
(h) helping students obtain employment or advice on careers;
(i) helping students with their financial affairs;
(j) helping students obtain insurance against personalaccidents;
(k) supporting debating by students;
(l) providing libraries and reading rooms (other than thoseprovided for academic purposes) for students;
(m) supporting an artistic activity by students;
(n) supporting the production and dissemination tostudents of media whose content is provided by students;
(o) helping students develop skills for study, by means otherthan undertaking *courses of study in which they areenrolled;
(p) advising on matters arising under the higher educationprovider’s rules (however described);
(q) advocating students’ interests in matters arising underthe higher education provider’s rules (however described);
(r) giving students information to help them in theirorientation; and
(s) helping meet the specific needs of overseas studentsrelating to their welfare, accommodation andemployment.

SSAF Fees schedules are published on the SCU website. In 2020 SSAF will be charged in Session 3
Application Process
Student Consultation
•All SSAF paying students are surveyed on their priorities for SSAF expenditure.
•SRC consult with students for additional feedback and propose SSAF priorities for student comment.
Fund Allocation
•Applications to request SSAF funding are available Friday 16th August 2019 and must be submitted by midnight Monday 9th September 2019.
•Recommendations for SSAF expenditure are submitted to the Vice Chancellor for approval during October 2019.
Outcome & Reporting
•Applicants requesting SSAF funding for 2020 receive notification of their application outcome by 8th November 2019.
•Funding recipients will be required to provide half yearly financial reports and a final evaluation report by 1 February 2021.
SSAF Priorities – from the SRC
The SRC recommend that the following services and amenitiesshould be funded as core provisions for students
• helping students obtain employment or advice on careers
• giving students information to help them in their orientation
• advocating students’ interests in matters arising under the higher education provider’s rules

Changes to process from last year
• Smaller application form – reduced from 10 pages to 2 pages
• Applicants will not have to decide which of the 19 funding categories best applies –the SSAF Committee will determine this
• Earlier notification of SSAF funding – 8th November 2019
