Dear Families,

Welcome to Summer Explorations, the summer program at The Elisabeth Morrow School! We believe that summertime is the perfect time to help stretch a child’s imagination, intellect and body. Our coeducational program provides children from Age 3 – Grade 9 with the opportunity to explore new areas of interest within a safe and comfortable learning environment. We offer classes and workshops with low student-to-teacher ratios allowing for individualized attention and student participation. Our staff consists of experienced, certified educators who help students build upon existing skills, develop new interests, and gain confidence. The 14-acre wooded campus provides the perfect setting for outdoor exploration and play.

The Early Childhood Program is structured to allow our campers to explore the world through games, building, singing, stories, cooking, and arts and crafts, among other activities that are perfect for this age group. Our purpose-built playgrounds encourage cooperative play and develop campers’ motor skills. Healthy snacks are provided during the day. Patios attached to all of our classrooms ensure that the outdoors is just steps away.

All children in the Early Childhood Program are eligible to enroll in either our half-day program from 8:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m. or our full-day program from 8:30 a.m.–3:15 p.m. Campers may bring lunch from home or participate in the camp’s lunch program. We also offer early morning drop-off from 7:30–8:30 a.m. and childcare from 3–5:30 p.m. is available every day for an additional fee.

Orton-Gillingham TrainingOffered to Grade 1 students only.A specially trained teacher will introduce techniques that help children to internalize letter sounds and letter formation in preparation for reading. Through individualized instruction, the teacher will help facilitate reading readiness with phonetic awareness training and multi-sensory experiences. Students must enroll for at least two weeks to participate in the Orton-Gillingham program. There is a $100 fee per weekly session.

Morning ProgramClassroom learning – In the classroom, children have morning meeting, listen to stories and participate in art, writing, and cooking projects that are related to the week’s theme.

Outdoor play – Water play and nature study are incorporated into the time that the children spend in our playgrounds and on our outdoor patios.

Movement education – Children learn basic locomotor patterns and creative movement through this component of our program, which focuses on increasing their awareness of physical activities.

Music – Children sing, play instruments, and explore music through stories and games.

Afternoon ProgramDrama – Children dramatize familiar stories and share them with classmates and friends.

Spanish – Kindergarten and Grade 1 campers learn names, greetings and colors, among other common words, through singing and speaking.

Science and Technology – Grade 1 campers visit our new Innovation Alley classrooms during the week for experiments and hands-on learning.

GRADES 2 THROUGH 6 PROGRAM

Grades 2 through 6 are able to explore special interests and extend or reinforce skills in reading, math, writing, science, drama, and other areas. Workshop classes are taught by experienced classroom teachers and are designed around topics of interest, with about 10 to 14 students in each class. Each morning workshop is 75 minutes.

All sessions last for one week and children can enroll in a morning program from 8:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m., or a full-day program that ends at 3:30 p.m. Healthy snacks are provided during the day and lunch can be brought from home or ordered through our lunch service. Two recess periods are offered throughout the day to allow students a chance to play, move their bodies, and enjoy time outside. We also offer early morning drop-off from 7:30–8:30 a.m. and childcare from 3–5:30 p.m. is available every day for an additional fee.

Afternoon activities are chosen by students each day and include sports, technology, science, arts and crafts, and cooking. The day includes Share Times for announcements and special presentations, as well as theme days that promote camp bonding, including an all-camp talent show and Carnival.

Workshops Grades 2 & 3

GRADES 2 THROUGH 6 PROGRAM

Week 1: June 22-26

Workshop 1Orton-Gillingham Reading Instruction The Orton-Gillingham Reading Instruction program is designed for students in grades 2 and 3 who need additional help with reading and writing skills. Under the direction of a specially trained teacher, students will work in small group settings. Students will review and practice the phonology of language and rule governing reading and writing through a variety of multi-sensory experiences. Enrollment is limited to allow for low student-to-teacher ratio. Campers must enroll in at least three consecutive weeks of Summer Explorations beginning June 22-July 10 and/or July 13-31.

Creative Collage Using a variety of three-dimensional art materials, found objects, collage images and text, campers will experiment with design and arrangement as they create their own collage and assemblage pieces. Looking at the work of assemblage and mixed media artists, students will also explore and discuss basic design principles.

iPiggibank Money Management Learn about money through hands-on explorations using art, writing, reading and play. They will learn how to earn extra money, save for something special, shop wisely on a budget and share with a worthy cause.

Let’s Experiment Do you like to create experiments in the lab? Here’s your chance to create interesting hypotheses and test the results. Students will participate in the scientific method process while working together to conduct hands-on experiments.

Sports Skills Campers will engage in sports-related games and activities to develop skills that make athletes successful. The focus is on teamwork, problem-solving and leadership as we participate in drills and games that highlight motor skills and movements to improve athleticism and ability.

We Start with a Book Love to read and act? Think about how a favorite character might move or speak and then bring that character to life. In this workshop, students will have a chance to do just that—we will turn the pages of a book into a play. Come join the fun!

Week 1: June 22-26

Workshop 2All That Matters Is it a solid, a liquid or a gas? Find out how and where these states of matter exist and how they can change by conducting simple science experiments. Put your scientific skills to work as we find out what really matters!

Animals in Art Art can teach us a lot about different animals. Learn how to draw animals, design an animal out of clay and make a Salvador Dali-inspired bird. Campers will work on drawing, painting and crafting skills while experimenting with a variety of materials.

Fashion Design Through the creation of inspiration boards and fashion sketches, students will learn to visually represent their own style and ideas. Next, they will design and alter pre-made clothing and accessories with appliques, patches, fabric paint and other embellishments.

It’s Melting It’s summer—a great time to think about melting! Try many different delicious creations that are made from melting ingredients. From fondue to candy making, we will be melting our way to tasty treats and eats.

Scratch, Jr. Programming Campers will learn the basics of coding while using their creativity to create stories detailing their summer adventures using the Scratch, Jr. program. They will create their own video games by using simple coding skills and commands to make objects move and make sounds.

Art in Nature Art is all around us. In this workshop, students will explore the works of Andy Goldsworthy and create artwork around the EMS campus using materials found in nature.

Brick City Builders Create using LEGOs® and other materials to build your very own EMS city. Collaborate with your classmates to design and build your ideal metropolis.

Fairies and Gnomes Explore the magical world of fairies and gnomes. Read stories about these tiny creatures and discover all their special qualities. Campers will create little forest homes for the fairies and gnomes to visit.

Habitat Hunters Explore the amazing world of animals right here on our EMS campus and the surrounding area. Learn where animals live and what they need to survive. A trip to a local nature center for further exploration and learning will highlight the week.

Playing with Drama In this workshop, you can be silly, serious and maybe even dramatic, as we try our hand at improvisation, reader’s theater and drama games. Explore your talent, develop your speaking and acting skills and, most of all, have fun playing with drama.

Week 2: June 29-July 2 (No camp July 3)

Workshop 2Backyard Games Campers will learn the rules of a variety of sports and games that can easily be played in any backyard or BBQ. Students will learn games such as volleyball, Spikeball, croquet, capture the flag and many more.

Go Solar Use the power of the sun to make art, pizza and solar cars. Learn how the sun affects us all, how to stay safe in the sun and how to use the sun for energy.

Jewelry Making Using quality beads and other materials, students will design and create bracelets and necklaces. Then, they will come up with their own company name, logo and packaging for their unique pieces.

Skillet Creations Cook “old school” using a cast iron skillet to make fantastic recipes. In this workshop, students will make pan pizza, frittatas, corn bread and more. You won’t believe what great things we can prepare using just our skillet!

That’s America Learn about the history of the American flag, our founding fathers, American traditions and of course, sample some traditional American foods. Celebrate our country and its rich history while having fun creating and learning.

Animated Vacation Join Little Animation Studio for this fun week of storytelling, art making and filmmaking. Campers will invent outrageous vacation adventures and bring them to life using stop motion animation. Our young filmmakers will design and create sets and characters using a variety of materials and art making processes. They will animate their films in collaborative production teams using professional grade software. Then, they will record sound and even get a bit of time in front of the lens themselves using the art of pixilation (the animation of living subjects). The finished film will be shared via online link and can be viewed, downloaded and posted online to share with others.

Digging into Art Campers will design their own treasure maps, learn about cave art as they make etchings in clay and crack open fossils to find dinosaur bones. Put your love of art and science together as you dig into art.

LEGO® Math Plus In this workshop, students will use ordinary LEGO® bricks in new, interactive ways to do math and other STEM activities. They’ll get their brain cells humming when using LEGOs® to add, subtract, multiply, divide, design and build.

Sports Fundamentals Campers will begin to learn the skills needed to play basketball, soccer, football and more. No matter what your skill level is, every player needs to know solid fundamentals. Activities will include shooting, passing, footwork, defense, speed, agility and most importantly, teamwork.

Sticky Science Do you like the ooey-gooey? How about the sticky or slimy? Using a variety of ingredients, campers will make different types of creations while learning about chemical reactions, solutions and other scientific properties. Turn science into play as you make slime, ooblek, bouncy balls, stress balls and more.

Week 3: July 6-10

Workshop 2Art 2.0 This workshop will focus on themes that are present in the modern day. Campers will design their own robot and Minecraft skin, and create a selfie portrait and their own Pokémon. They will have the opportunity to work with all types of art materials as they create their unique works of art.

Food Design Learn to make simple foods with fresh raw ingredients to create pieces of art that are almost too beautiful to eat. Our young chefs will make little chicks, caterpillars, mice, boats, flowers and more. Take this class and have a true culinary art experience.

Needle Crafts Have you ever tried needlepoint? Here’s your chance to learn a new craft. In this workshop, campers will plan a design and create it using plastic canvas and yarn to make a lasting work of art.

Simple Machines and STEM Come explore how engineers work. We will use everyday materials to build bridges, towers, ramps, gears and pulleys. Then, campers will test their designs and make improvements.

Week 4: July 13-17

Adventures in Art Travel the world through this amazing adventure in art. Campers will focus on artwork from around the world. You will travel to countries like Egypt as you design pyramids, then to Iceland to recreate the aurora borealis, and then to France as we draw the Eiffel Tower in the spring.

Lights, Camera, Action Do you have a favorite movie? And know all the lines by heart? Be part of the fun as we perform scenes from your favorite movies. Show your talent and love of stage and screen through this workshop. Get ready for the spotlight!

Outdoor Explorers Grab your binoculars and get outside to explore the beautiful wildlife right on the EMS campus and in the local area. Learn about native birds, plants, flowers and wildlife. The class will also take a trip to a local nature center for a guided hike and presentation.

Past Times in Times Past Have you ever wondered how people entertained themselves before television, iPads or YouTube? Travel back in time to explore forms of entertainment including games, crafts and other favorite past times.

Woodworking Learn basic woodworking skills as you design and work on an individual project. Campers will use basic hand tools and learn woodshop safety while working on a simple woodworking project to be completed by the end of the week.

Week 4: July 13-17

Workshop 2Let’s Rock Become a rock star as you learn to identify various rocks and minerals and better understand where rocks come from. Campers will assemble their own rock collections throughout the week as they explore the many hidden gems on campus.

Make it with Paper Use various types of paper to create flowers, stained glass, handmade cards and other beautiful works of art. As you fold, twist, glue and color, you will learn to work a little magic out of a little paper.

Picnic Pals Let’s go on a picnic! Sandwiches, salads, refreshing desserts, lemonade and more are all you need for a lovely summertime picnic. We’ll create these tasty treats. Then, at the end of the week, campers will pack up picnic baskets, grab a blanket and find a relaxing spot to a enjoy our refreshing outdoor lunch.

Sports Boot Camp Using fast tempo games, campers will learn more about their physical capabilities in speed, strength, agility and power. They will build their levels of fitness while working together through fun, safe competition.

Wonderful World of Wizardry This Harry Potter-inspired workshop will release your inner wizard. Campers will make a wand, potions and much more. Whether you are a muggle or a wizard, this class is sure to please!

Kitchen Chemistry, Jr. Explore the science of kitchen chemistry as you investigate ingredients that pop, fizz and foam. Discover amazing transformations of common ingredients and see how science can happen in the kitchen right before your very eyes.

Make ’Em Laugh If you like to laugh and share jokes, be a part of our very own EMS Comedy Club. Play games and perform funny skits and comedy routines for the EMS Talent Show at the end of the weekly session.

Multi-Sport Stars Play a variety of sports throughout the week. Campers will develop better technique and skills within each sport and gain a basic understanding of playing a scrimmage. Throughout the week, the focus is on small group games.

Simply Sculpting Learn different types of techniques to sculpt 3-D artworks. Our artists will create projects from modeling clay, air dry clay and other sculpting mediums. Explore this hands-on art form and let your creative juices flow.

Summer Memories Don’t let those great summertime memories slip away. Instead, capture them with photographs and words to create your very own summertime scrapbook. Using different papers, stickers and other embellishments, make a special summer keepsake to share with friends and family.

Ballroom Dance Come dance with us! Take this great opportunity to develop grace, learn confidence and get healthy exercise while having a good time learning beginning dance steps and routines. Campers will work on learning a simple ballroom dance to perform at the EMS Talent Show.

Book Detectives Discover new, interesting books while having lots of fun. Explore the library and learn how to use library resources to uncover great stories and characters. Discover your favorites from different literature genres as you sharpen your book detective skills.

Road Trip Treats and Eats In this cooking workshop, campers will travel the United States to find recipes and prepare food from different regions. Try tasty new dishes that are loved by people from all across the country, as well as delicious local treats. Join us on this delicious road trip!

Breakfast All Day When you smell muffins baking or French toast cooking, morning will soon be your favorite time of day. Our chefs will learn to make delicious breakfast foods that can be enjoyed any time of the day. From smoothies to pancakes, quiche and more, breakfast doesn’t have be a morning-only meal.

Comic Creations Create comic characters as you learn techniques and tips for drawing, designing and publishing your very own comic book. In this workshop, you will make your comic characters come to life.

Let’s Experiment Calling all scientists: grab your lab coats and goggles, and get ready to experiment! Campers will learn to make a hypothesis, conduct experiments and examine the results. Learn lab safety and important vocabulary while having lots of scientific fun.

Mandalas, Mazes and More If you love to imagine, create and color patterns and designs, join us on this artistic journey. Explore all different types of mandala coloring patterns, artistic mazes and designs. Look for reoccurring patterns, colors, shapes and more.

On Stage at EMS There are so many characters to explore in Broadway shows old and new. Use your talents performing some of the most famous scenes from Broadway’s best shows. Join other actors on your way to stardom.

Art 2.0 This workshop will focus on themes that are present in the modern day. Campers will design their own robot and Minecraft skin, and create a selfie portrait and their own Pokémon. They will have the opportunity to work with all types of art materials as they create their unique works of art.

It’s Cool to be Cool Hot summer days are the best time to make something cool. Using a variety of healthy ingredients, our young chefs will prepare delicious and nutritious treats and snacks that are cool to make and cool to eat.

Sports Fundamentals Campers will begin to learn the skills needed to play basketball, soccer, football and more. No matter what your skill level is, every player needs to know solid fundamentals. Activities will include shooting, passing, footwork, defense, speed, agility and most importantly, teamwork.

Sticky Science Do you like the ooey-gooey? How about the sticky or slimy? Using a variety of ingredients, campers will make different types of creations while learning about chemical reactions, solutions and other scientific properties. Turn science into play as you make slime, ooblek, bouncy balls, stress balls and more.

Week 7: August 3-7

Workshop 1Fiber Arts Studio Share stories and laughs while stitching snuggly creatures and crafty accessories. You will learn the fun, practical skills of knitting, hand stitching, machine sewing, needle felting and much more in a space filled with learning, creativity, imagination and giggles.

Fiction Fun and Games Have fun while reading. Using favorite children’s books as their guide, campers will play games and create projects based on the stories they have read as a group, with a partner or by themselves.

Outdoor Explorers Grab your binoculars and get outside to explore the beautiful wildlife right on the EMS campus and in the local area. Learn about native birds, plants, flowers and wildlife. The class will also take a trip to a local nature center for a guided hike and presentation.

Rock Out with Rock Art Creating art with rocks goes back to ancient times and continues to be popular today. In this workshop, artists will create rock animals, picture frames, designs and patterns.

Team Sports Campers will learn and play games to foster their athletic skills, but also to emphasize what it means to be part of a team. Games played will emphasize teamwork, rules, skills and strategies.

Week 7: August 3-7

Workshop 2Code Ninjas Explore beginning coding through play, visual and tactile learning while boosting your skills in robotics, problem solving and teamwork. Campers will learn the fundamentals of Scratch, Jr., Robotics Jr. and Jr. Ninja Snap Circuits while completing a variety of fun and flashy projects.

Glamorize Your Doll Get set for some serious sewing fun. This workshop is designed for campers who have always wanted to create trendy clothes and accessories for their own 18” doll. Skilled handwork studio teachers will emphasize techniques such as hand sewing, embroidery and other embellishing techniques to allow each student to craft their own unique doll fashions. Just bring your doll and your imagination!

It’s Natural Journey outside on the beautiful EMS campus to collect objects to turn into unique, original works of art. Use twigs, leaves, flowers and rocks to add a flourish to everyday objects and bring the outside inside to enjoy all year long.

Let’s Experiment Do you like to create experiments in the lab? Here’s your chance to create interesting hypotheses and test the results. Students will participate in the scientific method process while working together to conduct hands-on experiments.

Math Prep Keep those your math mind humming with fun games and activities that challenge you. Reinforce basic math facts and keep your skills sharp to be ready and refreshed for school in September.

Workshop 1Animals in Art Art can teach us a lot about different animals. Learn how to draw animals, design an animal out of clay and make a Salvador Dali-inspired bird. Campers will work on drawing, painting and crafting skills while experimenting with a variety of materials.

Fairies and Gnomes Explore the magical world of fairies and gnomes. Read stories about these tiny creatures and discover all their special qualities. Campers will create little forest homes for the fairies and gnomes to visit.

Kitchen Chemistry Explore the science of kitchen chemistry as you investigate ingredients that pop, fizz and foam. Discover amazing transformations of common ingredients and see how science can happen in the kitchen right before your very eyes.

Scratch Boot Camp Learn how to code and program using the Scratch program, developed by MIT. Campers will create their own video games using simple coding skills and commands to make objects move and make sounds.

Water, Water Everywhere Learn about the importance of water in our everyday lives. Conduct hands-on experiments to explore the properties of water, evaporation, and more. Discover more about water conservation and how you can help to make our world a better place.

Week 1: June 22–26

Workshop 2Art Artifacts Using natural materials like leaves, flowers and seeds found on our beautiful EMS campus, campers will make beautiful art pieces. Students will learn how to press flowers, make sun prints and use resin molds to create their natural works of art.

Comic Creations Create comic characters as you learn techniques and tips for drawing, designing and publishing your very own comic book. In this workshop, you will make your comic characters come to life.

iPiggibank Money Management Learn about money through hands-on explorations using art, writing, reading and play. They will learn how to earn extra money, save for something special, shop wisely on a budget and share with a worthy cause.

Space Station Take a ride in the Summer Explorations space shuttle as we journey to outer space. Campers will learn about the solar system, constellations, the sun, the moon and more through hands-on projects, games and simulations.

Sports Skills Campers will engage in sports-related games and activities to develop skills that make athletes successful. The focus is on teamwork, problem-solving and leadership as we participate in drills and games that highlight motor skills and movements to improve athleticism and ability.

Week 2: June 29-July 2 (No camp July 3)

Workshop 1Backyard Games Campers will learn the rules of a variety of sports and games that can easily be played in any backyard or BBQ. Students will learn games such as volleyball, Spikeball, croquet, capture the flag and many more.

Jewelry Making Using quality beads and other materials, students will design and create bracelets and necklaces. Then, they will come up with their own company name, logo and packaging for their unique pieces.

Workshop 2Art in Nature Art is all around us. In this workshop, students will explore the works of Andy Goldsworthy and create artwork around the EMS campus using materials found in nature.

Boardwalk Eats Take a culinary trip to the Jersey Shore and discover the delicious treats that are famous along the boardwalk. Campers will make summertime treats like hot dogs, soft pretzels, caramel corn, funnel cakes and even cotton candy.

Escape the Room Practice your problem solving skills to try to escape the room. Each day, we will face a puzzle that will test your math, language arts, science and history knowledge. To escape the room, campers will have work together against the clock.

In the Lab Learn about life in the science laboratory. Campers will learn to make scientific hypotheses, write up a lab report, conduct experiments and work together with fellow scientists. Grab your lab coat and goggles—it’s time for some scientific fun in the lab.

Week 3: July 6–10

Workshop 1 DIY Studio Campers will make do-it-yourself crafts while learning tricks and techniques to use for future DIY projects. They will work with a variety of materials to make their own keychains, stained glass mason jars, tie-dye shirts and more. Get crafty and learn how to do it yourself!

Fiction Fanatics Explore works of fiction from the world of wizards, kings, queens and even zombies. Using these different genres, students will create original stories or combine elements of each for a really unique, one-of-a-kind writing experience.

Food Design Learn to make simple foods with fresh raw ingredients to create pieces of art that are almost too beautiful to eat. Our young chefs will make little chicks, caterpillars, mice, boats, flowers and more. Take this class and have a true culinary art experience.

Travel Pass Join us on a real travel adventure! Each day, campers will venture to a new place in our area to learn about local history and enjoy cultural sights and sounds just a few miles away. Visit Central Park, explore the museums in New York City, take a boat ride on the Hudson River and more. Students must register for both Workshop 1 and Workshop 2 of Travel Pass to participate. Additional $100 trip fee is required to cover travel expenses.

Young Chemists Grab your lab coats and goggles and get ready to experiment. Campers will explore chemical reactions and learn how atoms bond together and rearrange themselves to form new substances.

Week 3: July 6–10

Workshop 2Cupcake Wars Are you a ready for some sweet competition? Teams of young chefs will compete daily to create specialty cupcakes. Each day, the teams will be given a challenge to make delicious and eye-catching cupcakes for special occasions. Mix up the fun—and earn “Best Cupcake” bragging rights.

Campers will invent new approaches in collaborative gaming groups. After designing and building unique gaming elements and developing their skills in stop motion animation, campers will bring their visions to life using professional-grade animation software and equipment. Participants will finish the camp with never-before-seen games in the form of animated short films to share with friends and family.

Newton’s Lab of Motion If you love physics and building, here’s your chance to put you mind and hands to work. Students will design, create, race and calculate the distance and velocity of their original cars, which are powered only by a balloon.

Sports Boot Camp Using fast tempo games, campers will learn more about their physical capabilities in speed, strength, agility and power. They will build their levels of fitness while working together through fun, safe competition.

Week 4: July 13–17

Ballroom Dance Come dance with us! Take this great opportunity to develop grace, learn confidence and get healthy exercise while having a good time learning beginning dance steps and routines. Campers will work on learning a simple ballroom dance to perform at the EMS Talent Show.

At the end of the week, they will have a chance to perform for other EMS campers at the annual EMS Talent Show.

Week 5: July 20–24

Workshop 2Build A Bridge Challenge Campers will incorporate STEM skills to learn about different types of bridges so they can plan and design their own. At the end of the week, students will test the strength of their bridge to see how much weight it can hold. Will your bridge hold up to the challenge?

Comedy Club Play silly, wacky and fun improvisational games to create hilarious skits. Work with a partner or in a group, taking turns trying out different voices, scenes and other crazy situations. Then, take your act on the road, as you share your comedy routines with family and friends.

DIY Studio Campers will make do-it-yourself crafts while learning tricks and techniques to use for future DIY projects. They will work with a variety of materials to make their own keychains, stained glass mason jars, tie-dye shirts and more. Get crafty and learn how to do it yourself!

Multi-Sport Stars Play a variety of sports throughout the week. Campers will develop better technique and skills within each sport and gain a basic understanding of playing a scrimmage. Throughout the week, the focus is on small group games.

Pizza Party Do you love pizza? Then this is the workshop for you! Campers will learn to make take pizza from scratch, add delicious and creative toppings and create their own specialty pizza. Join us—we’ll have a pizza party!

Week 6: July 27–31

Workshop 1Agree to Disagree Calling all future public speakers, debaters and more: sharpen your persuasive reasoning and public speaking skills. Each day, campers will take different sides of a topic and debate the issues. Using brainstorming, research and other skills, students will learn to speak their minds—and maybe agree to disagree.

Filmmaking Lights, camera, action! Learn to make and act in a film with Take Two Film Academy. Campers work together to create, act, shoot, direct and edit their own short films. At the end of the week, they will have completed at least one film, which will be put on a DVD and posted online. Professional equipment, cameras, audio and editing software is provided. This is a great way for aspiring actors and directors to start learning this important new literacy. This is a full morning workshop. Students must enroll in both Filmmaking morning workshops to participate.

Workshop 2Backyard BBQ Take cooking to a whole new place—outside! Make summertime classics like burgers, grilled veggies, salads, homemade pickles, cool desserts and more. Campers will learn about grilling safety and techniques as they try out new recipes on the grill.

Dungeon Masters in Training If you enjoy role playing games, this workshop will prepare you to lead your very own quest to play with your friends. Learn how to design heart-stopping adventures using your imagination to create the most epic quest yet. What will your next role playing adventure look like? Well, that’s up to you!

Teachers will work with the students to share necessary and appropriate skills, including using the sewing machine, measuring, pinning, cutting and assembling patterns.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Campers will learn about the important 3 Rs while creating sustainable, reusable and renewable crafts and projects that are good for our homes and our planet. Learn about our environment and have fun, while giving back to our beautiful planet Earth.

June 29–July 17 and/or July 20–August 7Our Leaders in Training (LIT) Program offers selected applicants the opportunity to develop self-confidence, an understanding of leadership skills, and the skills needed to be an effective and caring counselor. This extensive three-week, full-day program allows students to learn leadership skills through cooperative games, role play activities, observation, and hands-on training with younger campers. The focus is on small group dynamics, communication skills, teamwork, and value clarification, as well as conflict resolution.

Selected applicants participate in a variety of exercises and challenges, and also have the opportunity to complete a First Aid/CPR course and an American Camping Association online course in Youth Leadership. Our Leaders in Training will also be given the task of organizing a community service event for the camp at the end of each three-week session. The goal is to have our LITs acquire the skills to be effective leaders at camp and in their communities. Interested students must contact Liza Hards at [email protected] to obtain an application. What’s the schedule?Children can have fun all summer long at Summer Explorations. Weekly sessions run from June 22 through August 7. Children, ages 3-first grade, enjoy classroom based programming with specialized theme weeks. Children in grades 2-6 choose two workshops each week and then make daily afternoon activity choices. Hours are 8:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. for half day or 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for full day.

How much does camp cost?Parents have the flexibility to choose the schedule that’s right for your family. Select the full-day option for $615 per week, or half days for $415 per week. Before-camp care is available from 7:30–8:30 a.m. for $10 per day. After-camp is available from 3–5:30 p.m. for $25 per day.

How about lunch?Children can bring a lunch from home or order online from Simply Gourmet. Those who order lunch set up accounts online to choose weekly meals and to pay. Summer Explorations provides daily nut-free snacks including fresh fruit and vegetables and baked goods. For other dietary restrictions, campers are welcome to bring snacks from home.

Is transportation available?We work with Rainbow Transportation for all of our transportation needs during the summer. Families contract privately with Rainbow Transportation to determine routes and fees.

RegistrationRegistration is available through our website at www.elisabethmorrow.org. Please click on the Summer Explorations button on the school’s home page.

Please note: grade levels refer to the grade the child will enter in September 2020. Please complete all sections of the registration in their entirety. You will be set up with a user name and password so you can return to the registration form at any time.

Enrollments are limited and accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If a workshop does not meet the minimum enrollment, it may be canceled. Registrants will be contacted via email and asked to select another workshop or a refund will be given.

A non-refundable registration fee of $100 is due at time of registration. All remaining tuition is due by May 1, 2020. Payment can be made by credit card or electronic check. Check or cash payment will be accepted in the office; however, registration will not be complete until full payment is received. Checks are payable to The Elisabeth Morrow School.

Health HistoryThe Health History Form needs to be completed during the online registration process.

Confirmation of RegistrationConfirmation of registration will be emailed when payment is processed. Any additional information about Summer Explorations including confirmation of workshops, camp procedures, and policies will be sent in the middle of June.

DisciplineThe Elisabeth Morrow School and Summer Explorations is a place where all children feel welcome and safe. Therefore, we reserve the right to dismiss any children from our summer program who are disruptive, exhibit behavior that intimidates or threatens the camp experiences of any other students, are destructive to school property or grounds, and/or for any other reason deemed reasonable by the Director of Auxiliary Programs.

TransportationTransportation to and from camp is not included in the tuition fees. Information on private bus transportation is available upon request through the Summer Explorations Programs Office at 201.568.5566, ext. 7333.

FoodMid-morning snacks are provided for the students. Lunches can be brought from home or purchased by the week through Simply Gourmet. More information can be found on our website regarding pricing and weekly menu selection. All snacks provided to the students are peanut and tree-nut free.

T-ShirtsAll students will receive a camp t-shirt during their first week program. Each student will receive only one t-shirt per summer. Students are asked to wear their camp t-shirt each Wednesday and for any off-campus trips.

AttendancePlease notify the Summer Explorations Program Office at 201.568.5566, ext. 7333 if your child will be absent.

Extended DaySummer Explorations offers before and after camp extended day program options. Early Bird Care is from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and cost is $10 per day. After Camp Care is from 3-5:30 p.m. and cost is $25 a day. Families must register in advance for these options. For more information, please call the Summer Explorations Program Office.

DIRECTIONSFrom the East (NYC) George Washington Bridge (Upper Level) to Palisades Parkway. Go north on Palisades Parkway to Exit 1. Follow Palisade Avenue west toward Englewood. Turn right on Lydecker Street. At second stop sign, street appears to end. Turn left, then immediately right, as Lydecker continues. The School will be on your right.

From Route 4 East or West Route 4 to Jones Road exit. Turn right onto Jones Road and continue to first traffic light. Turn left onto Palisade Avenue. Turn right at the first light onto Lydecker Street. Follow directions in bold above.

From the North or South Route 9W or Palisades Parkway (Exit 1) to Palisade Avenue in Englewood Cliffs. Go west on Palisade Avenue. Turn right on Lydecker Street. Follow directions in bold above.

From Route 80 West or I-95 North (NJ Turnpike) Stay in local lanes. Exit at Broad Avenue, Leonia. Turn right and go north on Broad Avenue (which becomes Dana Place) to Palisade Avenue. Turn left, then immediately right onto Lydecker Street. Follow directions in bold above.

Parking For Little School or Chilton House, please park in the lot on Lydecker Street, which you enter from the intersection with Speer Avenue. For Morrow House, you will need to drive past the Little School on Lydecker and on up the hill. Lydecker changes to Next Day Hill Drive

at this point and you will find Morrow House at 480 Next Day Hill Drive at the crest of the hill. Please park on Next Day Hill Court, which is directly across from the School’s driveway. All visitors must register at the front desk of each building.
