We’ll also cover the importance of an underpainting. The emphasis for this class will be getting your emotions onto the canvas using colors, shapes, and textures.

ACRYLIC INK ABSTRACT PAINTING Christine OtisAcrylic Ink is bright and beautiful, thin and can be transparent or opaque. The emphasis for this class will be about skill, patience and technique involved in using acrylic ink to create a design. It is not like paint out of the tube; acrylic inks come out of a bottle. ALCOHOL INK PAINTINGChristine OtisExplore alcohol inks using isopropyl alcohol, blender, and air to create designs on yupo paper and ceramics. Demonstrations will help students understand and learn the basics of handling alcohol inks. It’s a very forgiving medium, so it can be easy to “erase” mistakes. It can also be a bit mind-blowing as the alcohol ink expands and can take over other colors. We’ll explore different techniques and materials to create unique and colorful designs.

BALLPOINT PEN DRAWINGRich FaberHave you ever sat doodling at the table while on the phone? Do you think the drawings you created were just doodles? Guess again! MAGIC OF MIXED MEDIAJeanne KecklerI believe that we are all artists and have a unique creative vision to express. Finding this unique expression through a process of exploration and artistic play is the foundation of this workshop. We’ll begin with expression rather than technique. We’ll explore intuition first, our personal expression, not the one we wish we had or the one we think we should have, but the one we were born with. We’ll explore our personal mark, through small and large, hand and body gestures on a variety of surfaces. We’ll use oil pastels, and other tools to begin to know our scribbles, our doodles and the flow of our artistic expression. Then, we’ll develop and aid its direction through the creation of a mixed media image on canvas. Mixed media provides a platform for artists of all levels. It can provide stress relief

for beginning artists because you are encouraged to think freely—outside of the box, and to blend your interests into an often-surprising third outcome. For experienced artists, it helps them to think like a beginning artist again. Throw away some prior knowledge to rediscover and experience anew. We will play with paint, decorative papers and acrylic markers to create rich, expressive images. All materials included with supply fee.

MOSAICSMila ApperloExplore the traditional art of mosaics in this 3-day workshop. Students will learn the basic glass cutting skills and glass laying techniques to create a mosaic that reflects each person’s artistic style. Total beginners will learn tips and tricks to understand the properties of the medium and more advanced students will be encouraged to push skills and craftsmanship. If you’ve taken a workshop with Kim before, be ready to be challenged to produce your best work. If you’re new, focus on building skills. This is a more in depth version of the Joyfully Painting in Oil workshops Kim teaches. All supplies included.

PAINTING LIGHT & COLORSyd HaleOur goal in this Plein Air workshop will be to capture the light key and atmosphere of the moment, to see the essence of nature both in its simplicity and complexity. We will, through the use of color, create an illusion, by emphasizing light and shadow differences, much as the Impressionists did. Outside, working first with block studies and a still life, we will then progress on the second day to painting Naples architecture, and the beautiful Naples seashore on the third day. I encourage the use of a palette knife to avoid “drawing”. Paint can be applied more freely and dramatically to keep your color pure and vibrant.  I will challenge you to be loose and be responsive to the light around you, to use color perhaps as you’ve never used it before.

PAINTING ON SILKJamie KirkellThis is an exciting and stimulating workshop to explore design, color and paint on silk. Colors on silk are breath-taking! Design techniques are easy to apply and painting florals are perfect for this art form. The workshop is taught in an open, relaxed manner and geared for all level of artist interested in this beautiful and unique art form. We will be completing three scarves at the end of the workshop.

PAINTING SEASCAPES, BEACHES & DUNES IN OILDouglas DavidThis brand new workshop will cover the basic principles of oil painting with regard to seascapes, beaches and dunes. Learn how to build the wave, capture the motion of the sea and better understand the colors in the sand. After the basics are covered, we will start by painting a wave and several seascapes, beaches and dunes in various atmospheric conditions throughout the 3 day workshop. For those who have studied with Douglas before, this overview of principles is always a good review, and no matter what the subject, these principles are key, and new discussions and tips are added each season. Each day’s demo will include simple discussions on composition,

massing, building form, light and shadow, near and far, capturing and developing atmospheric distance, and depending on your own style, knowing when a work is finished (learning how to not overwork your painting). Students will work in their own style/technique so that the finished work is their own. Douglas will overview his palette and concepts his work entails.

PAINTING THE EVERGLADES IN OILDouglas DavidPaint Florida landscapes in this exciting new workshop. You’ll be taken (via incredible photo reference) into the various parts of the Everglades, specifically the great vistas, the trees and foliage unique to this region. It will help you get more comfortable and have a better understanding of handling the greens when painting landscapes. The workshop includes interesting and memorable discussions on all the basic elements of painting including, composition, massing, building form, light and shadow: and depending on your own style, knowing when a work is finished (learning how to not overwork your painting). Douglas delivers sound principles of painting that are an incredible foundation for your painting, and whether a beginner or a person who has never ever picked up a brush, it will make sense. Plan to get several paintings out of this 3 day workshop which will focus on the Florida landscape - including plains, sawgrass, various tree islands and hammocks. The emphasis will be on getting the greens correct and believable, and creating atmospheric distance in your work. A series of serene and atmospheric landscapes will be painted over these 3 days of study.

PAINTING WITH PASTEL Charles PompiliusPastels are often thought of as somewhere between drawing and painting. In this workshop, we will push it toward painting, with an emphasis on expressive color. There will be demonstrations and some simple exercises in technique and color, then you will create your own works from the still life or a photo reference. There will also be plenty of one-on-one instruction.
