Parish Mission StatementMake Christ present in the world through prayer and the

sacraments by living the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.Bless His Holy Name Forever. (Psalm 145:21).

Parish Vision StatementWe will achieve our mission by:

• Nourishing and strengthening the community with the transforming grace of the sacraments especially by offering frequent opportunities for the faithful to encounter the living presence of Christ in the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Penance.

• Proclaiming the Gospel message of Jesus Christ by educating the faithful and those seeking to become Catholic through faith formation, helping young and old to better understand and live the Catholic faith.

• Bringing the Kingdom of God into every human situation with a hunger and thirst to make the Lord known. Living our witness helps form and deepen the faith we receive to know, love, and serve the Lord.

• Protecting and caring for the dignity of every human person at every stage and in every condition. As Catholic missionaries of Christ, we will work for justice and peace for all who are in need of emotional, spiritual, and material support.

• Cultivating opportunities for a deep sense of friendship and belonging through our Catholic beliefs, traditions, and values. To be a member of Holy Name parish means we are never alone in this family of families.

The non-baptized may not be sponsor or witnesses. Please call the parish offi ce for additional information and to schedule a baptism.

CursilloCursillo includes a three-day weekend which begins on Thursday evening and concludes on Sunday. During these three days, talks are given by lay persons and clergy who have spent time working together carefully planning and preparing for the weekend. The Cursillo weekend is not a retreat. There is no fasting or extended period of silence. The weekend is an opportunity to meet clergy and laity who are seeking to strengthen their faith. Holy Eucharist will be celebrated daily. Cursillo can provide:• *an opportunity to grow in faith and in spirituality• *a deeper understanding of the teachings of Jesus and how we

can serve Him• *an experience of living and sharing with others in a loving

and caring Christian community and realizing that this can be extended into our own environment

• *a continuing community that gives support and encouragement empowering the renewed Christians to persevere in carrying out their Baptismal vows

Please contact the parish offi ce if interested in attending.

Youth Faith FormationMiddle School Youth Ministry -SALT

Middle school youth ministry is for all middle school youth of our parish, grades 6th-9th. Through this ministry, our youth meet on the fi rst and third Sundays of the month from September – May. Our goal is to give our middle school youth an opportunity to come together with their peers, share faith and have a good time. Many of our junior and senior high school students work to facilitate the small groups and act as peer mentors for our younger youth. We will tackle important topics for our middle school students’ development. Why do we believe what we do? There have been some great discussions. We encourage all the middle school youth of the parish to join us.Another important aspect of middle school youth ministry is the element of service. Once a month, the group meets at a determined location for a service project. In this way our youth not only enjoy gathering together for a good time, they also enjoy the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world and build their own sense of Holy Name Community. If you have any questions, please contact Jamin Wernke at [email protected].

Religious Education Pre-K through 7th GradeFaith formation is a lifelong process, and through religious education classes, we provide formal catechesis for children 4 years old through 7th grade. Guidelines for this formation are developed under the guidance of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Through this formation, the parish can work in partnership with parents to assist with the development of your children’s Catholic faith, prayer life, sacraments and tradition. We offer religious education classes for children, ages 4 through 7th grade, of our parish. Classes begin in late summer and conclude near the beginning of May. The archdiocese requires our parish to provide at least 30 hours of formal religious education to our students. Classes are held on Sunday mornings from 10:35am to 11:25am and take place in the school classrooms. Registration for your child is required.

RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of AdultsRCIA is primarily for those who have not been baptized; however, all those seeking to enter the Catholic Church are welcome and invited to attend. RCIA is a process of conversion in which participants prepare to follow Christ through the Catholic Church. During this time, participants pray, refl ect and study the teachings of the Catholic Church in order to prepare to receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confi rmation and First Eucharist) or to make a profession of faith (in the case of those already baptized in another Christian tradition). RCIA begins in the late summer and concludes a few weeks after Easter. Sponsors who are in full communion with the Church are needed.

RCIA Adapted for ChildrenRCIA adapted for children is designed for those who have reached the age of discretion (usually 7 years of age) and who have not received the Sacraments of Initiation. Children in RCIA prepare to receive these sacraments and for reception into the Roman Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. Classes begin in late summer and conclude a few weeks after Easter. We will focus on the sacraments, faith community, service, prayer and basic beliefs and practices during specifi ed class times. All children who are ready will receive Baptism, Confi rmation and First Eucharist at the Easter Vigil.

Vacation Bible School - VBSVacation Bible School is a week-long ministry held in the month of June. Through this ministry we teach age-appropriate Catholic principles and scripture through fun activities and faith-fi lled learning. The children rotate through daily stations which include drama, arts and crafts, snack, games, and music.

Family Life &Social Concerns Ministries

Gabriel ProjectThis ministry serves the needs of soon-to-be mothers experiencing a diffi cult time during pregnancy, especially in the area of material needs. This pro-life ministry seeks to promote a Culture of Life by generously loving and supporting women that otherwise may be pressured into having an abortion.

Mercy MealsThis ministry helps ease family and friends through the loss of a loved one by serving a meal in Hartman Hall or the Parish Life Center Conference Room following the funeral liturgy and cemetery interment. Several parish volunteers are needed to prepare the food for the meal. Additional help is always welcome.

Over 50s GroupAll parishioners over 50 years of age are welcome and invited to attend Mass and lunch the fi rst Tuesday of every month. This group’s mission is to foster spiritual life, fellowship, and a sense of belonging within the parish community. One volunteer is needed each month for one hour to organize gatherings.

Parish NursingThis ministry serves the faith community by promoting health and wellness within the community. Wellness clinics are offered several times throughout the year after all the masses. The parishes nurses also play a vital role in the Oktoberfest Health Fair. Parish nurses can offer comfort, support or prayer to anyone.

Respect Life Committ eeThis committee exists to educate and inform parishioners about social justice issues such as abortion, death penalty, and rights of the elderly and disabled. It is our mission to promote the dignity of every human life from conception until natural death. All are welcome and the youth are especially encouraged to join!

St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVdP)Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) is an international organization of men and women joined together in spiritual growth through service to those who are in need and suffering. Believing we are all created in God’s image, we offer assistance with empathy, trust and friendship, while preserving the utmost dignity and confi dentiality.Holy Name SVdP helps those in need by providing emergency food, clothes, and household items to people in our parish and surrounding areas. This ministry requests donations through announcements in the bulletin (Blanket Sunday, canned food drives, “The Giving Tree,” etc.). In addition to donations, volunteers are needed every third Saturday at the food pantry in Indianapolis from 7:30am-12:30pm, and about every six weeks on Saturday mornings at the distribution center. Meetings are the second Monday of the month at 7:00pm in the Franciscan Room. Volunteers are always greatly appreciated! Liturgical MinistriesAltar Servers

Altar Servers play a very important role at Mass – they have the privilege of serving Christ through the priest at the altar. This is done by completing specifi c tasks and by setting an example to the congregation through active participation in the liturgy. When serving it is necessary for a server to perform all duties with attention, dignity and reverence. The commitment to the ministry requires study and mastery of the procedures as well as attendance as scheduled. Therefore, all altar servers and their parents need to take this important work of the Church with serious dedication and respect. New servers will be trained no more than twice during the year and dates will be posted in the bulletin. Many servers may be asked to serve high solemn Masses such as Christmas and Easter, and during the Easter Triduum, as well as other major solemnities an addition to Sundays; additionally, servers may be asked to help at wedding Masses and funeral Masses; cooperation in scheduling is needed and appreciated. Altar servers may begin in the 5th grade and are highly encouraged to continue through high school and beyond.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC)

EMHC administer the Blessed Sacrament of Holy Communion. These ministers are commissioned through the Archdiocese of Indianapolis by the Archbishop. EMHC’s must be baptized and confi rmed Catholics in good standing with the Church. They must be active and supportive parishioners of the parish. We are in need of Eucharistic Ministers during Masses as well as to administer the Sacrament to parishioners that are homebound or in a nursing home. Time commitments vary from a few hours weekly to once or twice a month.

Gift BearersPresenting the gifts is a great way for families of all ages to be a special part of the Mass. Holy Name invites all parishioners who are interested in bringing up the gifts to let one of the ushers know of your interest before Mass begins. The ushers will let you know if the opportunity is available. Three or more people are needed per Mass.

LectorsMembers of this ministry proclaim God’s Word to the faith community assembled at Mass. This ministry is open to all who have a sincere love for the Word of God contained in scripture. Lectors should be able to read with a strong, clear voice in front of a large group. They typically read at one Mass per month.

Liturgy Committ eeCoordinates all aspects of the liturgies at Holy Name, Sundays and Holy Days. The committee tries to enhance the spiritual growth of our community through the Eucharistic celebrations.

SacristansSacristans provide assistance to the priest in preparation for Mass, funerals, weddings, and special events. It is a special privilege to support our priest in this ministry. The ministry is in need of a few volunteers willing to assist in these preparations.

UshersThe ushers help to create a welcoming and reverent environment before, during and after each Mass. This ministry works in groups of four, assisting at Mass by greeting people, taking up collections, and distributing bulletins. Ushering is an important ministry and a great way to meet other parishioners and to be a part of the Eucharistic celebration. Additional volunteers are welcome for this ministry.

Parish Offi ceAssistance Ministries

Church Bulletin/MailingsThe weekly bulletin informs us about our parish ministries and activities, as well as activities throughout the Archdiocese. All organizations are invited to communicate through the bulletin. Please submit information to the parish administrative assistant by Thursday at 5:30pm (9 days prior to the weekend publication). Volunteers are needed occasionally in the parish offi ce to prepare the bulletin for distribution, as well as help with monthly mailings. Ads from local businesses are greatly appreciated and help to offset the bulletin’s printing cost. Please remember to support our local advertisers.

Clerical AssistanceThe parish offi ce is always in need of volunteers for clerical assistance and a variety of weekly projects. Typically, parishioners assist the parish secretary and offer a friendly welcome to all who come to the parish offi ce. Please call the parish offi ce at 317.784.5454 if you are interested. New volunteers are always welcome.

Sacred Music MinistriesAdult Choir

The Adult Choir leads and supports the assembly in praising God through song. Members of the Adult Choir are men and women who are devoted to singing during the Masses throughout the year. From August to June, choir members commit one hour of rehearsal per week as well as one Sunday Mass, three out of the four weeks of the month. In addition to Sundays, the Adult Choir sings for the major feasts of the liturgical year, including Christmas, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil and Confi rmation.

Christmas Concert ChoirIn 1962, Mr. Jerry Craney began a wonderful tradition that has become synonymous with Holy Name: the Christmas Concert. The Christmas Concert Choir includes all members of the adult choir and the youth choirs. It is open to anyone who would like to participate. The choir begins meeting in August for evening rehearsals. As the concert approaches, the evening rehearsals become longer and more frequent. The concert is held on a Sunday prior to Christmas. This is truly a great opportunity to enter into the celebration of Christmas.

High School GroupThe High School Group is open to singers and instrumentalists from 8th through 12th grade. The group meets to rehearse on Sundays at 11:00am. They then sing for the 11:30am Mass. The high school group does not sing on the same day as the youth choir.

Youth & Children’s ChoirThe Youth Choir is open to all Holy Name of Jesus youth from 5th through 8th grade. The choir students from the school are included in the choir, and although they make up the vast majority of the voices in this choir, those in public school, home school or any other school setting are welcome and invited to participate. Currently, the youth choir sings one weekend Mass per month throughout the school year. The Holy Name youth choir affords participants the opportunity to learn about liturgical music and music ministry. Students will learn the skills needed for effective and confi dent leading of congregational singing in the Catholic Church.
