The candidate demonstrates a basic grasp of the principles and concepts in the compulsory
part of the Food Science and Technology Strand of the curriculum. The candidate shows an
ability to apply subject knowledge in certain unfamiliar situations, like designing two
different breakfast food items for a fast food shop selling to elderly people and planning a
three-course dinner for pregnant women (Section B – Q. 1 and 2). In general, the candidate
can communicate ideas with an elementary use of subject terminology (e.g. Section C – Qs.
5 and 8).
Comments
The candidate demonstrates elementary knowledge and understanding of the principles and
concepts in Food Culture and Food Science and Technology. For example, he/she can apply
basic subject knowledge to state the popularity of self-service baking studios in Hong Kong
[Section A – Q. 5] and the social roles of feasts in Chinese food culture [Section A – Q. 6]. In
a few cases, the candidate was able to make use of appropriate terminology to express his/her
ideas [e.g. Section A – Q.4 and Section B – Q.10].
