    CHUCK CORNELIUS

Cornelius Seed is celebrating our 85th year in 2020. Five Cornelius generations have led Cornelius Seed over this time. Our family has been fortunate to have great team members who we have depended on to help our business grow. We are proud of the longstanding relationships we have with multiple generations of our customers. We are always excited by the number of new customers we welcome to the Cornelius Seed family every year.

Growing a seed business for 85 years, like farming, has not always been easy. There is no secret formula. The truth is it takes knowledge, forward thinking, planning, attention to detail, and hard work. Most importantly, it takes the right products and services. We pride ourselves on delivering consistent high yielding and solid agronomic seed you can depend on.

Like you, we have endured trials over the past 85 years. 2020 has been an interesting year with sheltering and social distancing. Fortunately for all of us, Agriculture is an essential business. For the first time in my lifetime, supermarkets had shortages of meat and other food staples. It is my hope the American public will now begin to have a new appreciation for the American Farmer.

You can be confident that Cornelius Seed will be here for you now and into the future. While some businesses seem to be paralyzed and not knowing which direction to go today, we do know where we are going. We will continue to deliver products you expect and deserve, and we will continue to provide and improve the services we deliver to you inside and outside of the bag.

While there are many things you cannot control right now, there are some you can control. Starting to develop your 2021 planting plan is something you can control. Working with your District Sales Manager or Seed Rep to start building that plan will give you confidence now. Remember to take advantage of early order and early pay incentives or early financing programs. Order early to take advantage of the best selection of products.

We are excited to add 14 new corn hybrids and 15 new soybean varieties to our 2021 line-up. We continue to evaluate new seed traits and technologies to keep you ahead of the curve. As always, we will keep searching to find products that fit and succeed on your farm. Cornelius Seed will strive to earn our place on your farm year after year.

Thank you for your confidence you place in Cornelius Seed!

    Plant it. Profit.

85 YEARS AND GROWING WITH YOU!

    HYBRID SUMMARY CHART

This chart presents the Cornelius Seed hybrid line-up in traits and non-traited columns. It also shows the hybrids in rows ranging from early to late maturing hybrids proceeding down the page.

ABOUT OUR HYBRID NAMESC denotes CORNELIUS

The next three numbers represent approximate maturity on a 200-800 north to south scale, with 200 being in the far north. (An example is C282 is bred to maximize yields in the north part of our marketing area while C655 is bred to maximize yields in the south.) See Zone Map on page 5. After these numbers, use the information on page 4 to determine the meaning of the letters. For the new four digit hybrid names, add 40 to the first two numbers to calculate Relative Maturity.

    USING OUR CORN MATURITY MAP

Maturity zone maps, which differ slightly from company to company, show areas that have similar temperature, climate, frost-free dates and killing frost dates. Hybrids tend to mature similarly across these zones. Throughout this product guide, you’ll find hybrids we recommend for specific zones, depending upon specific hybrid characteristics.

    TRAIT INSECT CONTROL

Best Management PracticesIn high Corn Rootworm (CRW) pressure fields, where single mode of action rootworm traits have been planted for multiple years, increased feeding has been documented. Continuous corn on corn with a single mode of action is not sustainable practice for control of CRW. To regain control of CRW populations, incorporating multiple tactics should be used.

Control Tactics1. Crop rotation is one of the most effective methods to lower CRW pressure

    in a field.

    2. Plant hybrids with trait stacks containing multiple modes of action against CRW.

    3. Growers can utilize a soil-applied insecticide at planting to control CRW larvae.

    4. Higher rates of seed-applied insecticide, such as Cruiser® 1250, aid in control of CRW Larvae.

    5. Foliar application(s) of insecticide(s) can be used to control beetles, which can reduce egg laying and subsequent CRW larvae the following year.

Acceleron® Seed Treatment System helps maximize the performance potential of your seed and traits right from the start. Designed to complement new seed and trait products, Acceleron can improve stands and plant health to help maximize the performance potential of your crop.

Poncho® 250* Seed-Applied Insecticide delivers the early season protection your crops need against cutworms, wireworms, white grubs, grape colaspis, and many other secondary pests. More effective control due to contact and systematic activity. Increased plant efficiency with Poncho® 250 saves time and labor during the busy planting season. There are no liquid insecticide systems to mix and load, and no insecticide hoppers to fill. IMPORTANT REMINDER - When planting Poncho® treated seed, the use of graphite in finger pick-up units and talc in air planters is highly recommended.

Poncho®VOTiVO®, America’s number one seed treatment, protects more than 40 million acres of corn each year from early-season insects and nematodes both above and below the ground. Poncho®VOTiVO®provides for better value, healthier stands and average yield increases of 10 bu./acre over standard fungicide systems.

CruiserMaxx® Vibrance® Corn, a combination of separately registered products, is an insecticide/fungicide seed treatment that offers superior insect and disease protection with enhanced root health.

CruiserMaxx Vibrance Corn is an on-seed application of Cruiser 5FS insecticide delivered at the 0.25, 0.50 or 1.25 mg a.i./seed rate, Vibrance Cinco or Maxim Quattro and Vibrance fungicides. Cruiser®, CruiserMaxx®, Maxim® and Vibrance® are registered trademarks of a Syngenta Group Company.Important: Always read and follow label instructions. Some products may not be registered for sale or use in all states or counties. Please check with your local extension service to ensure registration status.
