Generally at this time of year we are planning our annual StallionPresentation. However, this year is going to be plenty different than

in the past. This change is absolutely necessary and is a direct result of thePandemic we are currently experiencing. Therefore, we have elected totry what others have proposed and instituted to meet these challengesuniversally with a “Virtual Presentation”, where we present the farm, thestallions, their progeny, including their race records and racing videos.

This is an endeavor that my daughter, Farm Manager, Michelle LaVoicehas elected to take on with the help of many. The general idea is to bringto our friends, clients, and the breeders in Louisiana and beyond, all thatwe have to offer in terms of the farm, facilities, and our staff. We are alldedicated to the well being and productivity of the many horses for whichwe care. Clear Creek Stud is a full service facility including breeding, foal-ing, sales-prep, breaking and training. We do our very best to accommo-date owners and trainers, via attending to whatever their horses requireor need.

The pandemic has dealt our industry an incredibly harsh blow not onlyfrom the virus itself but from the multitude of effects brought about byadded rules and regulations, etc., and if COVID wasn’t enough,Southwest Louisiana had the additional insult of two hurricanes, Lauraand Zeta that devastated Delta Downs. Thus, racing has been limited to alarge degree over this time, and there is certainly less to talk about regard-ing recent racing than usual, simply because of a lack of racing. The great-est insult of course was to Casinos and slots that are so important to rac-ing via purses. These have improved with the state Government allowinga certain percentage of capacity back into casinos, and racing in Louisianais coming back as well albeit fanless. With both the Fairgrounds and DeltaDowns recently opening meets, we are hopeful all of these things contin-ue to improve. I expect they will, especially with the promise of vaccinesbeing available relatively soon, which will certainly help insure a morepromising future. We will get past this incredible challenge and we arecertainly excited to welcome in 2021 and to have 2020 done and in thereview mirror.

The Virtual Stallion Presentation that you will be viewing is brought toyou by, Fire On The Bayou recording, a New Orleans production company.This visual experience, which I’m told is the future, will give you insightsinto the farm and recent progeny. For now, I will miss the lunch and timeusually spent talking one on one with our friends and peers, all with com-mon interests. Thisyear we are adding a new stallion, ImperIal HInt to the roster whomay not need an introduction. Imperial Hint, a four time Grade 1 winnerof over $2 million, with 7 total Graded wins and 107+ kind of speed, is cer-tainly an exciting addition and should fit quite well in our lucrativeLouisiana program.

This year and every year, the horse industry continues to be incrediblyimportant to the Louisiana economy. I would suggest that you makeevery effort to communicate to our State Legislators, especially the newlyelected ones, how our industry contributes to the economic well being ofour state, particularly through the creation of numerous jobs. We appreci-ate their past efforts and support, and we look forward to working withthem in the coming year to keep the horse industry healthy throughoutthe state.

recently modified the by-laws allowing for a new “non-

resident mare” to be eligible to have accredited louisiana

bred foals. the non-resident section of the by-law reads:

(b) Non-Resident Mare is a broodmare that arrives in Louisiana infoal and after foaling must be covered by a Louisiana domiciledstallion in that foaling year, and pregnant or not, must remain inLouisiana for a period of ninety (90) days after foaling or untilAugust 1 of the foaling year, whichever is earlier.

With this by-law change, breeders may be able to be a sig-

nificant part of the louisiana Breeders program and be

rewarded accordingly.

Boarding,FoalingandTraining Clear Creek Stud canboard up to 120 mares at a time with full-service broodmare care, taking everyprecaution at foaling including the use of a night watchman. Boarding servicesvary according to the needs of the client and their horses, such as stall and turnout, private paddocks and group pastures. In addition, we offer training servicesincluding breaking yearlings, training on five-furlong training track with break-away safety rails. Recovering or resting runners can benefit from convalescence,rehabilitation and layup at Clear Creek using our numerous turn-out paddocks,swim facility and a Eurociser (mechanical exerciser). Additionally, we have a wellrespected race track veterinarian on call daily for assistance with any recoveries.

Like many of you, I grew up in a 4-H Program. I learned plenty and

have a tremendous appreciation ofthose times with 4 - H l e a d e r sg u i d i n g a n d supporting youngp e o p l e . M a n y parents took thetime to help many children, besidestheir own, and the young people them-selves helped one another while at thesame time competing.

Alot of that seems to have dwindledover time and we currently have a

group headed by Neely Walker work-ing to rekindle this fire. They are striv-ing to rebuild the Louisiana 4-HProgram to once again have a signifi-cant impact on our next generation ofhorseman and citizens who will matureand continue the process over and overagain, to keep the flames burning.
