A message from Mr Gill
Term 2 is knocking on the door
As we head towards the end of Term 1 and the start of
our Easter break, I would like to acknowledge the efforts
of our students and staff with many achievements and
success stories highlighting the last several weeks.
I trust the holidays will be restful and just what is needed
ahead of a jammed packed Term 2, full of engaging and
high-quality learning experiences. ANZAC activities,
school photos, NAPLAN, K-6 cross country, Life
Education virtual experience, Riverina Environmental
Education Centre excursion K-6, dance and Aboriginal
cultural experiences are just some of the activities
that will form part of the learning journey in Term 2.
Family Conferences
Our Family Conferences, held throughout Weeks 8 and
9, have once again proved to be hugely successful,
backed by feedback and evaluative processes. We have
had almost 100% participation from our parent body,
with the involvement of dual parents being a particular
highlight. All students now have a personalised learning
goal in literacy and numeracy along with strategies to
achieve these goals. Goals will be continually
tracked, monitored, assessed and refined throughout
the year, with success being shared with students and
parents. We also look forward to hosting student led
family conferences in Term 3, when our students will
guide the conversation alongside parents and their
teacher. Thank you parents for being involved in your
child’s learning journey, it has a strong positive impact!
Easter celebrations
We look forward to hosting families this Thursday 1
April for our end of term assembly and Easter activities.
Students and younger siblings will participate in an
Easter Hat Parade, displaying hats they have created at
home. Following, children will take part
in an Easter Egg hunt around our
playground, whilst tea
and coffee will be
available for
our parents
and guests.
Harmony Day Picnic
Families joined students on Friday 19 March for a picnic
in the school grounds as part of our Harmony Day
celebrations. Students and teachers firstly welcomed
guests by presenting their learning from a week-long
focus on the significance of Harmony Day, including
Miss Dickey leading Year 3-6 through a traditional Maori
game called Te Rakau. Families then spread out a picnic
rug under the large pine trees and enjoyed a delicious
spread, including some culturally inspired cuisine. It was
such a pleasure to have our school community come
together for an experience that was so warm, relaxing
and enjoyable.

School Improvement Plan 2021- 2024
In 2020, the school completed a rigorous situation
analysis, identifying areas to focus on for school
improvement at Eurongilly Public School. Throughout
Term 1, 2021 staff have been busily developing the
new 4 year School Improvement Plan (SiP 2021- 2024).
The framework of the new plan is in its final stages and
will be shared next term. ‘Student growth and
attainment’ (shared with every NSW public school),
‘building teacher capacity’ and ‘looking within to thrive
beyond’ are the titles of our 3 Strategic Directions.
Within each strategic direction, initiatives and activities
to support each initiative have been planned to
achieve our newly set school improvement measures.
We already do many things well within our school and I
look forward to using the new SiP to continually drive
ongoing improvement, which will include some
tweaking and changes to every day practices. Whilst
confident in and excited for the implementation of our
new SiP, I am also relieved the significant work load is
almost complete and my own focus and energy can
move from the planning to the actual doing.
Growing Great Leaders
Separately, to the ongoing School Excellence in Action
process, I have been heavily engaged in the Growing
Great Leaders (GGL) online program in the latter part of
this term. ‘GGL is a leadership development program
based on the Student-Centred Leadership model
developed by Distinguished Professor Emeritus Viviane
Robinson. The program focuses on the development of
the professional skills and capabilities of new
principals, strengthening ability to work effectively in
unique contexts, alongside colleagues and communities,
to improve teaching and learning outcomes.’ With
the initial induction and first 2 modules completed,
I have found the content highly practical to the principal
role and I look forward to implementing and refining my
learnings in support of refining a positive school culture
at Eurongilly.

News from K-2
K/1/2 spent some of this term reading and writing
poetry. Students explored free verse poems, cinquain
poems, rhyming poems, senses poems and animal
poems. This poetry writing complemented our work on
exploring nouns, verbs and adjectives. Here are some of
our best pieces:

News from 3-6
What a great term! A big thank you to all students,
parents and families for your hard work this term
whether it be working towards learning goals, offering
support, attending parent/student/teacher conferences
and coming together as a community.
Years 3-6 have been busy working towards the
completion of our Pablo Picasso (Cubism) and Georges
Seurat (Pointillism) artworks which look amazing up on
the wall! Well done everyone! We are in the process of
completing our class reading folder which will house our
Information Report and Narrative writing stories. The
folder will be kept in our class library corner for all to
read.
Although athletics has been rescheduled, we have
continued to work towards running efficiently to create
fluency, throwing with control and fluency and jumping
with control, balance and fluency. Keep up the practice
at home over the holidays even if you practice throwing
with a tennis ball or a frisbee.
Have a wonderful and safe Easter holiday and I will see
you all back in Term 2!
