2022 ACTSMS DRAFT sOTHANNIVERSARY ACTION PLAN

This draft plan recommends the formation or four subgroups focusing on the following areas of activity;

1. Marketing2. Historical3. Anniversary Dinner4. ScaleACT 2022

1: Marketing subgroupLMG recommends formation of a Marketing subgroup in July 2021 to undertake three kev functions.

1 .'l : Corporate Anniversary lmaging

. Early development of a 50th Anniversary Logofor letterhead; email; advertising; Facebook andother electronic sources etc to be ready for adoption day one - 1 January 2022.o To facilitate member engagement, consider conducting an inhouse competition; oro Approach/commission individual members to prepare options; or.o lf no takers commission at cost.

r Design and purchase of special anniversary pop up banners for use at anniversary dinner and2022 ScaleACT.

Outcome: LMG recommends agreed Logo and Banners be seff/ed by September 2021.

1.2: Publicity

o Absence of ModelART a hindrance requiring a more proactive approach to maximisingopportunities for marketing both the Anniversary and the Society itself - to hold the ACTSMS ingood standing with our Landlord, peer modelling groups, the ACT and region, and the modellingindustry itself while also taking every opportunity to recruit new members.

r Presidential Letters to range of authorities lnforming them of our milestone, highlighting key events,and identifying opportunities for them to engagelcontribute in/to the celebrations - letters to HellenicClub; major local, Australian and lntemational modelling clubs; local and national hobby traders;international modelling magazines & Clubs lselectl ; and elected local government representatives.

r Letters to clubs could include invitation to participate in the commemoration via establishing theirown small separate club model displays aL2022 ScaleACf [re-activation of interclub co-operation].

Outcome: LMG recommends Leffers be ready for circulation in November 2421.

o Media coverage for the Canberra Weekly; City News; and other free outlets at the beginning of2Q22; while also utilizing all electronic mediaffV and radio outlets:

r Monthly advertisements for the Canberra Weekly; City News; and other free outlets during thecourse of 2022; including utilizing all electronic media/TV and radio outlets - informing of meetingswhile picking up on some of the themes of the anniversary program.

r Seek opportunities for feature articles/interviews in the local published/electronic media outletssuch as Canberra Times and local TV stations throughout 2022.

Outcome: LMG recommends the appointment within the subgroup of a dedicated ongoing role for apubticity officer late 2021 for the Anniversary which might a/so be extended to the more generaloperations of the ACISMS during 2022.

{.3: Special Commissioned MemorabiliaPossibilities endless. Some suggestions follow however, this is one area where membership could beconsulted and/or asked to submit other ideas.

o Commissioning of Mugs/capsff-shirts/coasters etc. could be investigated - one or a combinationthereof.

o Commissioning of a special ACTSMS Anniversary pin.o Opportunity to review and commission new club shirts with an anniversary logo.r Special anniversary name tags for 2A22 General Gommittee and Life Members possibly extended

to all2O22 financial members.

Outcome: LMG recommends guesfions of cosUprocurement and level of Society subsidization will berequired prior to December 2021 with agreed products ready for distribution at the January 2022meeting.

2: Historical subgroupLMG recommends formation of a Historical Sub-Group in July 2021 with the following focus;

2.1: Research

Develop the 'commemorative theme' of the Anniversary - Research Society's 50 year history:

r Undertake an analysis of member records to list current members in a length of service time seriesfor publication in a special commemorative newsletter. {Many members with over thirty yearsl.o Prepare a historical record of all Presidents and their ACTSMS club/modelling bio for newsletter.o Analyze past records to draw up a list of old members to be contacted for a special monthly themereunion meeting - Old Members reunion via letters, email and publicity avenues discussed above.o Develop historical record themes for display at the 2022 ScaleACT and Anniversary dinner -canvass from members old newsletters; photo's and trophies and the like.r Prepare a short history of the ACTSMS for publishing in the special anniversary newsletter or asdiscussed later, incorporated into one of the quarterly editions.o ldentify special guest presenters each with a specific topic of interest and their recollections of theACTSMS at some point. The list is endless with potential speakers from APMA or IPMS Sydneyetc, past presidents and the like.

o lnvestigate possibility of developing an ACTSMS Anniversary Photobook [via Photobook Shopmechanisml premised on above products.

o lnvestigate the possibility of video compilation recording of short interviews with pasUcurrentSociety members - oral history, events and stories of interest to be viewed at the proposedAnniversary dinner and ScaleACT itself. This might include commentary from the modelmanufacturers and/or modelling identities nationally.

Qutcome: LMG considers above fasks a priorrty with progressive reporting essenfr,a/. [Two existinglong term members already offered to participate in the sub group [Mike Netmes & Bob Groosl.

2.2 : Commemorative Newsletter

o Investigate possibility of a special commemorative newsletter in 2022 incorporating elements of thevarious sub group outputs and/or determine a spread of coverage in the planned quarterlynewsletters.

Outcome: LMG suggesfs c/ose consultation required with the existing 2021 and 2022 Editorialteams.

3: 50th Anniversary Dinner subgroupLMG recommends reinstatement of the Annual Dinner separate to ScaleACT as the formal commemorativefunction of the year. A semi formal dinner preferably at the Hellenic Club. A subgroup is envisaged andwould come together early in 2022.

o Saturday evening possibly mid June 2022.r Past and present members/partners and special guests invited with a planned function capacity for

100 persons.MC event with some entertainment via guest speakers i.e. past Presidents, spot quiz and noveltieswith prizes [to be determined] as well as the awarding of trophiesilife membership if any; and thelike.Adoption/presentation of a number of the outputs from all sub groups could be displayed etc.including scene setting re bannerVballoons/table settings etc.The cost for members could be subsidised or run at full cost to the former.

Outcome: LMG favours rernstafement of this event as a piority building on the work of the other sub-graups which in hand can then feed into the next sub-group.

4: ScaleACT 2A22 activitiesLMG recommends formation of an enlarged ScaleACT subgroup comprising dedicated existing resources

with additional members [from the sub groups above] tasked specifically to coordinate special themes anddisplays relating to the commemoration. lt might require earlier formation of the group in 2A22 than normal.

. The requirements of ScaleACT are well known and would proceed regardless of thecommemoration - the only difference is that the 2022 ScaleACT would reflect in addition to thetraders and competition tables a themed ScaleACT incorporating all the ideas floated aboveincluding but not restricted to the following:

o Club displays from other clubs both locally and interstate requiring use of the extendedclassroom network at Kaleen;

. Themed photolmemorabilia displays from the Anniversary dinner;r Commemorative Scene setting including balloons/banners in allthe display areas again re-cycled

from Anniversary dinner etc. and;r Obviously themed model displays separate to the competition and already in the planning phase

including the pre-1972 model build.

Aubome: LMG foresee a themed ScaleACT built round a SAth Anniversary sefflng. A model expoquite different to any other show of recent times.
