A Realty Collective Project 18
For architectural tourists, Red Hook has a deliciously varied built environment dating to the early 1800s with stone warehouses, brick townhouses, a large cement grain terminal, frame buildings, and some of NYC’s few remaining cases of front and back houses shar-ing the same lot.
Now, Red Hook has been consolidated to a charming one square mile peninsula bounded on by water on three sides and the Brook-lyn-Queens Expressway on the other.
Most small stores are owner-operated and reflect a personal vision. Many goods are home made, the food is artisanal, and local poultry and greens are raised right here in Red Hook. Restaurants and bars are places of community gathering, offering local bands a place to jam, book clubs a place to meet, and on some mornings, you may find the Red Hook Knitting Circle weaving together yet another part of this adorable community.
The illustrious Valentino Park has spectacular views of the New York Bay, the Statue of Liberty, and downtown Manhattan. There are even local community groups that offer free summer kayaking. Two esplanades are situated east of Valentino on private property; From just east of Pier 41 (Van Dyke Street) there is a small beach (no swimming, fishing or boating allowed), a boardwalk, and a land-scaped garden that wraps around the Waterfront Museum Barge to the back of Fairway Market past some picturesque old trolleys and onto the Beard Street Pier. A local commuter Water Taxi runs on the South Brooklyn Line from Atlantic Basin and can take you south to Bay Ridge or north to Dumbo and Wall Street, Manhattan.
3 Public Parks161 Registered Businesses
Red Hook is in the process of reinvention. Its maritime past has been updated with the building of the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal—U.S. home to the Queen Mary 2. It is a neighbor-hood with great opportunity to experience the city’s 19th century waterfront with a modern twist.
But do not wait long as Red Hook is a quickly developing neighborhood that holds boundless potential. Despite the rapid business and residential developments in recent years, Red Hook has managed to maintain a unique character not seen elsewhere, similar in feel to DUMBO and pre-2000’s Williamsburg. Its restored docks and cobblestone streets are reminiscent of a distinctive feeling sometimes indescribable.
Red Hook is a mixed-use neighborhood, home to a contain-er port, several tugboat companies, a significant number of manufacturing businesses and a burgeoning arts scene.

Victoria AlexanderBroker
Realty Collective was founded in 2005 by brokers who believed that the Brooklyn real estate experience could be better for everyone. We hired dedicated profes-sionals – who also have rich creative lives outside of their real estate careers. Our network of agents includes designers, artists, dancers, producers, photographers, musicians, filmmakers, and writers. They understand that a home is more than just square footage – it is a place to create the environment that reflects and supports who you are.
We live in the communities where we work. Clients often remark that their agents “seem to know everybody” in their neighborhoods. These relationships keep us honest – and they provide us with significant intelligence we can share with our clients. Need to know where to shop, eat, walk your dog? How loud that bar is on weekends? Or what is happening in the next year or so in your area? Our agents can inform on all these.
Founded by historic preservation enthusiast Victoria Alexander, Realty Collective is rooted in the community. After growing disenchanted with other real estate broker-ages, Victoria chose to model Realty Collective after her own ideals. Earning her masters degree in Historic Preservation Planning from Pratt University and manag-ing a successful real estate brokerage has allowed her to blend her passions and interest.
Victoria is involved in a wide array of planning issues and preservation projects pro-tecting the architectural significance and rich history of so many landmarked, iconic buildings around the borough of Brooklyn. Realty Collective is helping to shape Brooklyn’s future while ensuring it stays connected to its vibrant cultural legacy.
