Why the Neteru of Ancient Egypt? By Rahotep 20

I offer email courses and readings at my website:www.rahotep.co

I owe my life's work to The Neteru of ancient Egypt. Thisintroduction to the Names of Neter is my tribute of thanksand gratitude to all the Names of Neter for having given m

life and loving me always, unconditionally. I would like togive you a little insight into my life and connection withthem.

The Neteru (Neter means divine names and principles),which are wrongly translated, as gods/goddesses are the

many faces and aspects of the One Supreme Being thatcreated the Universe and all that is. The source of ALLLOVE and ONENESS which some call God,Creator/Creatrix the Universe or The Goddess.

The Neteru of ancient Egypt are my teachers, guides andfriends. They represent my highest aspirations. They hea

and protect me and give me unconditional love.

They do this for anyone and everyone willing and ready tSee, Listen and Experience them. They even do this forthose that hate or deny them or are ignorant of their

existence, because Divine Love is unconditional and nonJudgmental.

The strange symbols, shapes and images of the EgyptianNeteru on ancient Egyptian temple walls seem mysteriouor even sinister to some. These images and symbols arejust an attempt to symbolize concepts and aspects of theDivine, which are beyond our human understanding. Assuch they are just symbols and we must not be so nave

to think that Neter really looks like this, although they ofteappear in these shapes, in meditations, or on the astral, iorder for us to recognize and interact with them. Remembthe Divine is infinite and Neter (How the ancientssymbolized each of the Neteru) can take any form itdesires. This means that Neter can manifest in Dreams,

through other people, as forces of nature, feelings, sounlife experiences etc.

I sometimes get asked by people coming to see me if Iwork with the light and good energies Do I believe inGod? Etc, and if it is ok for them to be coming to me?(Some fear that these energies might be against theirreligion? Some are concerned that what I do is evil or daor can cause negative karma for them).

I am not evil or dark, neither is the work I do or the energand Neteru I work with.

I ask in the spirit of Ma'at (see explanation of Ma'at belowto stop Putting God in a Box. I once saw a beautiful T-shirt, which carried the inscription: God is too big to fit inone religion. I see myself as Spiritual and free from Dogmor Religion. So let me state quite categorically that my wohas nothing to do with Religion but everything to do with

    Spiritual Growth and Healing.

Some people fear or hate the Neteru and see them asdemons from another religion or culture. These peopledo not understand that Neter is Loving, Caring and DivineLight. Do not curse what you (in your flawed perception, ignorance or limited understanding) see as the God ofanother, for all gods are one God - Some do notunderstand this because a person can only understand arelate to that which one has experienced. They will onlyexperience this once they can move past their own fears, prejudices and judgmental dogmatism (imposed by otherwishing to exert control over peoples free will and divineright to choose and think, or by themselves through fearand ignorance).

The Neteru are as alive and relevant in my life today asthey were to the ancient Egyptians thousands of years ag(some new evidence puts the age of the Sphinx in Egyptand the ancient Egyptian civilization at +- 12 000 BC). Evso, Neter was always and will always be, Eternal,Unchanging, All love, The Light, The container of all that Divine.

Although space does not allow the inclusion of all the

names of Neter, allow me to introduce you to some aspecof Neter as I have experienced them in my life's journey. hope you will come to realize that Neter isn't some distanjudgmental or punishing force somewhere on a cloud upthere; and as one Shaman teacher puts it, looking to sewhat we are doing with our genitals! No, on the contrary

Neter is ever present and loving. Neter is as alive andpresent today as they were in ancient Egypt. Working witthem is as beneficial and relevant in modern times as thewere in ancient times, as you will come to see andexperience if you choose to do so.

My Mentor and Patron Deity is Tehuti(Thoth).

In the Egyptian Mysteries, one's patronDeity is the primary face or aspect of theDivine from which we take inspiration orwhose qualities we would like to alignourselves with for our own spiritual growthRemember all the Neteru are One, so non

is greater or lesser than the other aspects. They are just aspects (of each other andthe One supreme Source of all love, knowby all and many names by all cultures andpeople all over the world)

Some of Tehuti's titles include: DivineArchitect of the Universe, MasterMagician and Lord of Wisdom. He isassociated (there are other forms) with theIbis bird and often visits me in this guise. He is a master shape-shifter and Hiswisdom comes to us in many ways andforms. Neter is with us always, constantlycommunicating with each and everyperson, whether we realize or recognizethis or not. Have you ever listened to a

song on the radio and found that the lyricswere the answer or inspiration to some

problem or question for which you havebeen asking wisdom? This is typical ofthe Energy of Tehuti.

    Aset (Isis)

Isis of ten thousand names, Wife of Asar(Osiris), Queen of Magick.

She is the caring mother always ready toprotect, heal, nurture and love her children(each and every one of us). She is alwayspresent during a Sekhem Ankh Healing

session, enfolding her wings of love, healinand protection around the person receivingthe healing. She teaches us that there is lifafter death, joy after sorrow.

She also teaches Magick to those that are

pure of heart and ready to use such powerfor the greater good and benefit of allpeople in a spirit of Ma'at (see below)

    Asar (Osiris)

Asar un Nefer [Osiris the Good

(Beautiful) Being] is one of His titles. He isthe Husband of Isis and he teaches me thevalue of listening to my intuition. He teacheSound Judgment. Asar representsmankind in its perfected spiritual state.Although he is the King and Judge in the

underworld (according to Mythology) herepresents Divine Mercy and Love. Osirisnever Judges or Punishes, because free wand choice are our divine birthright andwhen we make wrong choices forourselves, we only have ourselves to

    blame.Heru (Horus)

Horus is the Mighty warrior. He is thatfighting spirit in all of us who fight againstinjustices and refuse to be victims. He is a

warrior for the light. His symbol is the UtchEye, which is also the logo on my websitewww.rahotep.co.za. The Eye of Horusrepresents wholeness, healing and all thatis good and wholesome. It also represents

Taboos etc that some in our modern culturhave regarding the enjoyment and

experiencing of sex. No, this does NOTmean the ancient Egyptians had no moralsit only means that they had a differentexperience and viewpoint.

    Heqet

Her symbol is the frog, which represents thnumber 100 000 in ancient Egypt and shehelps with the manifestation of goals andprosperity. If you are a pregnant mother orabout to give Birth, Invoke her protectionand ask her to speed up the labour to

lesson the pain. This is as it was done inancient Egypt, for mothers in labour by thePriestesses of Heqet.

    Sekhmet (the lioness)

She holds the keys to both Life and Death.

She is the Great Healer as well as theDestroyer.

Sekhmet is also known as the destroyerbecause she destroys that which is nolonger needed in our life. The things, that

prevents us from growing spiritually. Inother words aspects like falsity, greed, selfrighteousness, resentment, fear or anyother limiting beliefs, aspects or energiesthat prevents our spiritual growth. Ever seea lioness at play with her cub? - Althoughgentle and loving, lionesses also sometimescratch their young to toughen them up inorder to meet the challenges that survival inature requires.

Likewise with Sekhmet, Her lessons aren'teasy or wrapped in cotton wool but they

bring great healing and spiritual stridesforwards when she touches our life. She isalso the dispenser of Ma'at (Karmic justiceand protects the people that suffer at the

hands of evildoers. It was in her temples inAncient Egypt where Sekhem Ankh (a very

powerful form of energy healing) waspracticed. Sekhmet means the PowerfulOne and Sekhem Ankh means the Poweof Life. I invoke Sekhmet during a SekhemAnkh healing session to Destroy negativeenergy patterns, disease, limitations and

blockages that hinder or prevent health anspiritual growth. I also ask her to replacethat which has been destroyed with lovehealing and wholeness.

    Ma'at

Her symbol is the Ostrich Feather as well athe scales.

The word Ma'at means Justice, Truth,Cosmic Order, Balance and Integrity.

The Neteret Ma'at represents all of these

qualities and her lessons help us to bringbalance and order into our life. As humanswe do not like to admit when we are wrongor to see our faults, Ma'at however teaches

  • 8/3/2019 20478793 Why the Neteru of Ancient Egypt

    12/25

us to stand in a space of total integrity. Thican be difficult and challenging if we are no

willing to grow spiritually or face ourselvesin the mirror. Challenges will always be apart of life but when we take the principlesand lessons Ma'at teaches us to heart andstart applying them, a lot of the chaos weexperience (often self created) seem to

make way for order and balance. The forceof nature like gravity, magnetism, theplanets and stars in their respectivecourses, time and space are allembodiments of Ma'at. Her lesson issimple, where there is chaos there is no

Ma'at, so if this is our experience and weare experiencing chaos, we need to askourselves the question: Am I acting inMa'at? Am I in integrity? I teach ethics ofHeka and the Principles of Ma'at in myHeka classes. Heka can be loosely

translated as Spells or Magick andmeans Divine/Authoritive utterance Thesprinciples are often misunderstood and Ifind it surprising how many people do not

  • 8/3/2019 20478793 Why the Neteru of Ancient Egypt

    13/25

know how to balance chaos. When onestarts applying these principles a state of

Ma'at (Balance and integrity) is achievedwhich leads to great peace of mind.

    Ra

Ra is the creative force in the Universe andbrings illumination and enlightenment into

our life. His symbol is the sun. Ask yourselwhat would happen to our world if the sundidn't exist anymore? Perhaps now you caunderstand why Ra was so respected andrevered by the Ancient Egyptians. At timeswhen one is particularly creative or happy

(experiencing a sunshine moment in one'slife) know that this is the energy of Ra atwork in your life. Ra teaches us that all lifeis cyclical in nature. The rising and thesetting of the sun each day represent birthlife, death and rebirth. Ra can also cast lig

onto areas of our life, which needstransformation.

    Khepera

In His form as Khepera, Ra helps us to

Transform or rebirth, thereby creating a nebeginning for ourselves. The rising sun inthe East represents the Neter Khepera andhis symbol is the scarab beetle. Workingwith the energy of Khepera can bring greatrebirth into one's life. Accessing his

energies will help in any areas of one's lifethat needs transformation or requireschange. Remember change is not alwaysdrastic, traumatic or difficult. But as I alwaysay: Recognizing patterns is useful,

Changing them creates growth. It is nevertoo late to change, it is always too late if wdon't

    Anpu (Anubis)

Anubis is the guide of souls and aids us on

our walk through life if we allow him to holdour hand and guide us. Anubis also assistswith Dream work, astral journeys and verypractical day-to-day direction and protectioduring travels. I often ask him to show methe way when I am lost driving my car or

when I am not sure which direction my life heading in. Anubis can also be asked toopen the Ways if you need new doors ofopportunity to open up to you. Opener othe ways is one of his titles. As a protectoof one's property one cannot find a better

guardian. He is also like Tehuti a masterPhysician and Anesthetist. In this regard Iask His help when I go to the dentist or oneof my children (my pets) needs to get aninjection from the vet. As a masteranesthetist my pets experience no pain wit

    Anubis present.

These are just some of his attributes. Therare many others, which I leave to you todiscover for yourself in you journey with th

    Neteru on life's path.

    Sutekh (Set)

He represents the spiritual current inMagick. His titles include: The Red god ofThunder and the dry desert heat, Lord ofChaos and storms, He, who destroysillusion, The thunderer.

Demonized and feared only by those whodo not know Set or understand the innerwisdom teachings of the Myth of Osiris andthe battles of Horus and Set - astraditionally portrayed in the EgyptianMythology and in some books by some

ignorant writers and occultists. Sutekh helpus to face the illusions we have about ourlife, ourselves and others and therefore a lof people are scared of him. He shows upillusions and mistakes and is very much ain your face sort of energy. Some are not

ready for the gifts Sutekh brings and thiscan cause chaos in their life. However, theapple needs to fall from the tree and die inorder for its seeds to sprout new life again

    17/25

Lets get one thing straight for once and foall! SET IS NOT EVIL! All Neteru live on

Ma'at, in other words they are all balancedpure, truthful, ordered and in total integrityThey are all one and the same. It is likehaving one radio but many radio stations(frequencies) to choose from.

If you are not ready to face your ownillusions or mistakes, steer clear of Set. Sedoesn't play or molly coddle or sugar coatand like Sekhmet his lessons can be painfif we are kidding or fooling ourselves. Set,like all names of Neter, is only interested inone thing: your spiritual growth. This Neteris not for the faint hearted, be ready for theroller coaster ride of your life when you wowith him (should your life not be in order orintegrity). Like Sekhmet, He is the fast traclane to spiritual growth. It is no surprise inthe light of this that some of the mostpowerful Pharaohs in Ancient Egypt borehis name.

Set brings change and sometimes we don

  • 8/3/2019 20478793 Why the Neteru of Ancient Egypt

    18/25

like change especially if we are addicted toour comfort zones. Change as I have

pointed out already is however necessaryfor growth.

Change isn't always bad or chaotic. It canbe if we fight it and try to fart againstthunder, so to speak. Swimming upstream

is always more difficult than with thecurrent. Life is quite easy and simple if weare in tune with the current of Neter andour Divine self.

As a force of Nature, Sutekh's energy ispresent in storms, the dry desert, hot

    climates and Thunder & Lighting.

When you are experiencing chaos in yourlife, no matter how scary or painful, try toask Set, what is my gift in this? How can Iuse this to grow? Set will answer you but b

prepared. If you do not like the answer Setgives you, it might mean that you have buiup false illusions around yourself orsomeone you trust, are egotistical or arekidding yourself and that He is merely

She represents Divination in all its formsand can also assist you in developing yourintuitive skills. Dream work and Astral traveas well as shape shifting are the gifts thatNebtHet can give.

No secret can be hidden from the eyes of

you have no right to infringe on the privacyof another. You might be acting out of EgoLust for power and control over others etc.Are your motives for wanting to know purand in Ma'at (spiritual integrity)?

Crocodiles are very fierce and much feared

creatures, however they can be very caring(Ever seen how mother croc gently picks uher babies in her powerful jaws?)

They are also highly territorial andprotective over their eggs and young.

The Neter Sobek normally only show up inone's life, when one has learned toembrace one's Dark side. (that which Jungcalls the shadow) Sobek can be one'sbest friend if we can move past fear andlearn to work with His energies. Again this

requires taking an objective look at one'sshadow self. As a protector or guardianSobek can guard and restrict entry toanything you wish to safeguard. Dreamingof crocodiles can indicate the presence ofthis Neter in your life. Sobek also guards

occult secrets from those not ready for thepowers these secrets bring. Once you havintegrated your shadow self, Sobek willgladly assist you. I have a very close

Bes is also a fierce protector and can becalled upon to keep evil out and to protectagainst evil forces or entities. He is normalseen brandishing a pair of knives in thiscapacity.

I want to make it quite clear that the Neteru aren't justenergies to be used. The Neteru are nobody's slaves. IRahotep am very respectful of Neter and have a very
