On his 40th birthday, Mr. Xiao Hongchi gave up his successful career as a financier on Wall Street and in Hong Kong and began his quest to learn Chinese medicine from special masters and doctors in monasteries, temples, and even deep forests in China.

Over the years, he met and learned from tens of legendary medical masters and doctors. He mastered many medical skills and arts which previously thought lost, including rare acupuncture and acupressure theories and techniques, La-Jin and Pai-Da auto-theorapies, bone-setting methods, and knife theorapy.

Since then, Mr. Xiao has vowed to devote his life to restoring peoples’ health and promote many of these almost-lost treasures of auto-therapies. He regards his path as a way to “achieve spiritual enlightenment through healing people with physical illness and elevating their minds.”

La-Jin: an autotherapy that you can learn in a minute.

Extending our Jin by 1 inch will extend our life by 10 years. One dies when our Jin degenerates completely. Flexible Jin will lead to good health.

Healthy people who live long usually have flexible Jin. Regular Jin stretching is the best way to keep fit. The following are 7 ways of La-Jin.

Page 12: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

La-Jin method #1 - in reclining position (on the La-Jin bench)

Step 1: sit down on end of the bench, move the buttocks to the edge of the bench; lie down on your back

Step 2: place the left leg up against the pillar, while the right leg bends to touch the ground as much as possible.

Step 3: Put the arms straight behind your head, and keep them flat on the chair. Keep the position for ten minutes.  Your left leg may also do bicycling or swing so as to relax the hip joint

Step 4: switch the position of the legs, and repeat the exercise for another ten minutes. .

Page 13: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

Notes1 If the raised leg is curved and somehow couldn’t be pressed against the pillar, you can bind it to the pillar with a piece of cloth or a towel.2 If the leg bent down could not reach the ground, you can put a sandbag or other weighty stuff to press the leg. Add the pressure until the leg reaches the ground.3 If the arms stretching backward could not flat on the surface of the bench, you can hold something in the hands to increase the pressure; or you can also ask someone else to press thehands, but this process should be donein progressive manner.4 You can tell the effect from your Facial expression, the greater pain it manifests, the better the effect. Nevertheless, the pain should be limited to a tolerable range.

Page 14: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

In the absence of the special bench, there is a simple way toLa-JinStep 1: Line up two safe and even chairs near a wall or a doorframe;

Step 2: Sits on the chair closer to the wall or the doorframe, move the buttocks to the edge of the chair;

Step 3: Lie down on your back, with right foot leaning against the door or the wall, and the left leg curved and pointing downward. Try to reach the floor with the left leg. Raise both hands and sprawl them on the chairs. Maintain the position for 10 minutes. In the meanwhile, you can move your left foot in a manner similar to that of riding a bicycle; this movement relaxesthe pelvic joints.Step 4: Move the chairs to the other side, shift the position of both legs

andpractice it vice versa for another 10 minutes.

La-Jin Method 5 Neck La Jin

It is applicable to the treatment of cervical pain and shoulder-back pain

Method 1: Lie face up on a bed or a bench. Stretch your head to the edge of the bed or the bench and stretch your arms backwards as possible as you can so that you head can hang down .Hold this position for three minutes.

Method 2: Sleep on your back or side without a pillow. Because you can put your head forward and down and make your head remain motionless for a long time while at work, cervical pain will occur. This method is contrary to the position of your head while you are at work. It is a soft La-Jin method, which lasts a long time. You are not accustomed to sleeping without a pillow at the very beginning, but you will adjust yourself in a few days.

La Jin Method 7Squat stretching Method

It is the oldest La-Jin method. You squat as if you were shitting.

Step 1: Squat yourself down with your close feet pressed to the ground.

Step 2: Hug your legs with your hands and lower your head (The Daoists call it “baby hugging”, a pose of a baby in the womb.

Page 27: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

1. This exercise will help stretch your muscles in the neck, breast, waist, back, coccygeal vertebra, crus and activate the meridians and collaterals in your body to facilitate the smooth flow of Qi and blood and bowel movement. It also helps the treatment of a great part of such known chronic diseases as high blood pressure, heart disease, andrological disease, gynecopathy, kidney deficiency, arms deficiency, constipation and hemorrhoids.

2. It is an excellent daily health-care method.

If someone cannot squat all the waydown to the ground, it doesn’t matter. If one practices often, one willgradually be able to squat down withhis or her soles pressing the ground.

Page 28: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

In addition to its therapeutic functions, La-Jin can also help in diagnosis. Bodily illness can be diagnosed from La-Jin posture and treated in the course of the La-Jin practice. Take the following examples: 1 If the knees have pain and are not able to straighten, these are symptoms of Jin Suo, which indicates a blockage in the Liver Meridian (the channel related to liver), because liver governs the Jin.  A blockage in the Liver Meridian will certainly affect the stomach and the spleen.  The liver belongs to the wood, while the spleen belongs to the earth, and wood influences earth.  2 If there is pain in the hip and the back of the knees, it shows that the passage of the Bladder Meridian is blocked, and the kidney has problems.  This is because the bladder and the kidney are closely connected, both belonging to the water; neither one can be healthy if the other one is not.  Diseases caused by the blockage of the Bladder Meridian include edema, obesity, frequent micturition, diabetes, and so on.

Page 29: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

3 During La Jin in reclining position, if Raised hands and arms cannot reach the surface of the bench. It is related with such diseases as frozen shoulder, heart, lung, head, five sense organs, galactophore.

4 Raised leg cannot stretch straight and lowered leg hangs in the air without touching the ground, which suggests that Jin Suo is serious, and the liver, spleen, kidney channels are not smooth, and there will be the ache in the waist and back or even troubles with abodominal organs. Women with these symptoms are likely to have gynecopathy whereas men with these probably have troubles with their prostate.

Page 30: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

Will La Jin cause damage to Jin or muscles?

1 La Jin is a natural rational exercise. Pain, numbness,

ache, swollerpain and others imply that Qi and blood cannot flow smoothly so it requires La Jin practice to make it smooth.

2 La Jin is a self-controlled exercise with appropriate intensity and time. You can control it so as not to hurt yourself with overstretching.

3 You feel painful while La-Jin, which will suggest that something is wrong with your body. You will bring your pain under a tolerable control by flexibly manipulating intensity and time.

4 Beginners, patient with severe diseases, aged people cannot stretch too much. They had better lengthen their time of La-Jin gradually and increase their strength bit by bit.

5 Someone said that his Jin was hard from his childhood. In fact, hard Jin sounds a alarm for bodily troubles, which suggests that something is wrong with liver because liver controls the muscles. Therefore, he should La-Jin.

6 No matter how much time or what form you use in La-Jin, if you don’t feel painful, numb and swollen, which suggests that your bones are in the right place and your Jins are smooth, thus Qi and blood flow naturally.

Page 31: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

How to La-Jin in a proper sequence? At home or in the office, it is also feasible to do La-Jin with the help of furniture or other living goods.

Here we will take La-Jin in a reclining position for example.

It does not matter if you cannot fully stretch out your arms or make your feet close to the pillar. Slow down and make your body get used to the feeling of La Jin.

If your knee goes down when you are raising up your feet, you may fasten it on the pillar. (La-Jin on La Jin bench)

If your foot cannot touch the ground when put down, you may weight it with sandbag or other heavy stuff.Step on something.

Page 32: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

La-Jin is easy to learn, but be sure you do it in a proper sequence. Slow down your movement to prevent from unnecessary muscle strains.

(Phase 1) The foot on ground may step on books in order to better support the foot in the air.

(Phase 2) Draw out some books to lower down the supporting foot.

Page 33: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

(Phase 3) Continue to draw out books

If you La Jin with chairs, gradually, your arms will be straighter and the foot raised will be closer to the wall.

Page 34: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

(Phase 4) Congratulations! Your supporting foot is finally on the ground now.

Page 35: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

What are the possible physical responses brought by La-Jin?Type 1:Pain, numbness, ache, swelling pain, itchiness, and feeling fired (yawning)(Note)These physical responses above are normal reactions in natural therapy. In traditional Chinese medicine science, it is called “Qi Chong Bing Zao”, which means that the healthy Qi struggles with the sickness. To some extent, this is the darkness before dawn breaks. The responses are a signal which tells you that the stagnated meridians are now being dredged.

Page 36: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

Type 2:Erythema, blister, dizziness, headache, hiccup, feeling sick, phlegm, running nose, farting, extremely stinky excrement and urine(Note)1. All these responses are detoxification reaction. When these symptoms appear, you should go on doing La-Jin orPai-Da. After the inner self-clearing, the body condition will gradually recover, and you might even have the feeling of being reborn.2. La-Jin and Pai-Da should be continued as daily practice after recovering health. However, the length and intensity could be reduced.

Page 37: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

Cautions for in La-Jin

1 One should wear long dress when doing La-Jin. Air-conditioner should be turned off because the pores will open during La Jin which might make you catch cold.2 If it is difficult for you to practice La-Jin in lying position, you may slightly bent your knees to ease your pain, but do remember to draw your knees back when landing them on the ground to avoid bowlegs.3 Patients of hypertension, cardiac diseases, osteoporosis or other patients with weak body condition should first ask for doctors’ advice before

doing La-Jin . People who have Jin-Suo will definitely feel painful during La-Jin, and experience high blood pressure and rapid heartbeat. It is better to rest head on a pillow to release the blood rush to the head.4 The aged people, patients of osteoporosis and people who have serious illness might faint away because of pain. Therefore, these people should not advance too quickly. Proper practice intensity is necessary as well as persistence.5 If you find your hands or feet feeling numb, or if you have symptoms such as cold sweat or blue in the face (called hyperventilation syndrome in western medicine), you should cover your mouth and nose with a paper or plastic bag to create a closed system. The symptoms will disappear in about five minutes.

Page 38: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

How long does it take to La-Jin in reclining position? How about the intensity?

Time duration of La-Jin

There is no fixed time duration of La Jin. The suggestion is ten minutes for each leg, but this is no standard either, just for your reference.1.It is all right for most healthy people to straight the raising leg and set the other leg on the ground. However, for some weak people, it is hard to manage. Someone might even feel instant pain when they lie on the chair. For these people, La-Jin should be practiced in a progressive manner in terms of both duration and intensity.2.For people who often dance or do yoga, 10 minutes of La Jin would not be difficult. If they extend the time duration to 20 minutes or half an hour, all effects will turn up. Chronics such as insomnia, constipation or cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases will also disappear gradually.

Page 39: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

Intensity of La JinThe intensity of La Jin varies from one practice to another and has no fixed standard, but should also not exceed one’s suffertibility.1.You can ask someone else to help press your leg, or you may use sandbags.2.The hand that is stretched to the back may carry weights such as dumbbells, bags or dictionaries. This may increase your pain, but is definitely more effective in curing many diseases such as frozen shoulder, breast illness and cardiac diseases.3.This way of La Jin incorporated with proper breath requires arm extension to the back. It has obvious effects for fat females or those ladies that have pendulous breasts, because La Jin in reclining position could change the direction of the force of gravity to breasts.

Terminology

Pai: Patting

Da: Slapping

Pai-Da: A Chinese Medical method which utilize patting and slapping of external skin areas to draw out and eliminate poisonous waste in body and restore health by facilitating the smooth flow of Qi throughout the meridians

Sha: poisonous blood

Page 41: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

What are the principles of Pai-Da?

1 Skin is closely related to the meridians, our limbs, five viscera, six entrails and nine apertures (including the eyes, ears, nostrils, mouth, urethra and anus).

2 Pai Da will launch one’s faith and mental forces, and will stimulate relevant meridians to dredge the Qi. The running Qi will in turn bring out the running of blood. The unobstructed meridians could cure diseases.

3 The patted and slapped parts on the body will automatically gather Qi and blood, and then accelerate the circulation. As sweepers, the intensified Qi could scan the body and dredge the obstructed meridians. As a result, the body waste, illnesses and even tumors will be cleared.

4 Viewing from the perspective of the western medicine, Pai-Da is a positive-breaking therapy which will stimulate the central nervous system. Therefore, the inner body systems could be activated and help repair the damaged parts, and finally improve the immunity function of human body.

Page 42: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

Generally speaking, there is an up-down turn as follows:(Step 1) Pat the headPat the top of the head with both handsPat the sides of the head with both handsPat the back of the head with both handsPat the back of the head with one hand (one hand is more convenient, and could nicely cover the head)(Step 2) Slap the back of the shoulderPat the right side with left hand, and the left side with the right hand; remember to pat all sides of the shoulder

Page 43: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

(Step 3) Slap both armpits and the inner sides of the shoulderPatients with cardiac diseases, lung diseases and breast diseases should do this step more.(Step 4) Slap the inner sides of the elbow jointsIncluding all meridians of the inner sides which include the heart-channel of the inner sides and the lung-channel and the large intestine channel at the rims of the outer sides, as well as the pericardium channel in the middle(Step 5) Slap the kneesPat the fronts of the knees with both hand and make sure that the knee is covered by the whole palm; pat the inner sides, outer sides and the popliteal spaces. This step could be applied to cure all foot and leg diseases. La-Jin as supplement will bring better results.

Page 44: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

(Step 6) Slap the feetPat the arches, insteps and the ankles with power. This step can not only cure the foot diseases, but also bring good curative effects for all internal organ diseases.(Step 7) Slap any body-parts according to the needAfter all the six steps above, you may Pai-Da any body-parts according to your illness.

What if there is no enough time?

Pat the following important parts:For most chronic and acute diseases, the elbows, knees, groins and feet are the focus, because these parts have the most toxins, and are the concentrated areas of meridians, blood vessels, nerves and lymph.

Page 45: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

How to Pai-Da in a proper way?1 Pat and slap attentively Concentration and faith will increase the positive energy in your body. Distracting thoughts could bring negative effects.2 Pat and slap with power If you feel the pain of slapping, that means you are on the right way. The pain will eliminate the illness.3 Pat and slap with your mindWhen slapping the skin, you can imagine that youare injecting fresh Qi into the body and bringing out the turbid Qi out.4 Use your palms and fingers in a proper wayWhen slapping a larger area such as the front of theknees, use both palm and fingers; if the area is relatively small, such as the popliteal space , you could mainly use the fingers with agile movement

of the wrist.5Best to recite or chant mantras or scriptures whilepatting and slapping: Reciting mantras or scriptureswill bring a better result; you may choose yourfavorite mantras or scriptures.

Page 46: 20:5220:5220:5220:5220:52 The La-Jin Therapy The Pai-Da Therapy

The time length of Pai-Da, the frequency of Pai-Da

1Pai-Da can be done at any time in a day. You can form a habit of Pai-Da and Pat and slap in the morning and at night or you can do this in the morning, afternoon and at night.

2 For healthy people, you can pat the head, shoulders, armpits, elbows and knees for one to five minutes each time. You should at least do this once or twice a day.

3 For sub-health cases, besides Pai-Da the parts mentioned above, you can pat and slap the nidus for a longer time. Generally the time length should be between five to thirty minutes for once or twice a day. You can also Pai-Da more times each day.

4 For those who feel under the weather or have obvious nidus should pat or slap the nidus for at least half an hour each time.
