    TIME

The dearest thing we have on earth is life, and yet we often do not value an essential aspect of it, precious time. The only good reason for our ex-istence is to know, love and serve God, and we can do none of these without time. We can do nothing in the past and nothing in the future. So all we have is the present precious moment. The best possible use of time is what we give directly to God; praise, adoration and reparation. Come and spend time with God before the Blessed Sacra-ment.

    CALEXICO

MONSIGNOR GALINDO shares a beautiful letter he received from a parishioner. Part of it reads:

"I am saddened to hear from my family on my arrival home that you too are in poor health. I thought so, as I listened Sunday past to your homily about love and being able to forgive, I scanned youi slimming body, and I thought as any medic would, Galindo must still be ill. That s~dden me, but most of all your leaving is a blow to me that is most difficult to stand up to. Of all the priests in this Valley, you are one who has fortified me during times of great weakness and temptation.

God gave you the words to speak, in your homilies, that I needed most to hear. Now with your leaving during this most trying time for me, I worry, what kind of Godly man will fill your void. I suppose you must be about your Father's work, even though it hurts us who are left behind, I must not be selfish, for all good things must be shared. So if leave you must, I will accept that I am sharing you with others of God's people, so they too may share with me the joy of having you amongst the~.

May your health be regained by a God-sent speedy recovery. And as you have ridden out many storms in this "parroquia ", may this storm be calmed to a gentle wind and the gift of good health always be with you. It

    Dear Msgr. Galindo:

    October 4, 1983

With your appointment as dean, you are ex officio a member of the Diocesan Board for Educational Ministry. ,

In the post Vatican II era, all segments of the Catholic community have become increasingly more involved in the formation of policy. This is especially true in education, one of th~ principal ministries of the Church and an area of major concern to both clergy ~nd laity alike.

Recognizing the importance of this involvement, and in order to achieve the more effective integration of programs and better utilization of resources, Synod II recommended that there be a single Diocesan Board to assist me in the formation of policies governing all of the educational ministries .of the diocese. I accepted the Synod's recommendation and have established the Diocesan Board for Educational Ministry. All diocesan educational programs are within the purview of this Board: schools, religious education, youth ministry, evangelization and adult education, campus ministry, liturgy and prayer and Hispanic evangelization.

Each deanery is represented on the Board by the dean (or a pastor appointed as his regular alte~n~te) and a qualified lay person. In addition, there are three at~large members; one of whom must be a Woman religious. The active participation of_all members of the Board in its deliberations will assure that the programs conducted by the diocesan offices are responsive to the needs of the parishes. .

Your service to the priests and people of your deanery is deeply appreciated.

With all good wishes, I am

Thank you for your generous donation of $80,000 to the Pooled Income Fund'of the Diocese of San Diego. The Most Reverend Bishop has accepted the beneficiaries as yo~ have listed them.

Due to the multiplicity of beneficiaries, there is no evident tax deduction you would receive for this donation. You may wish to consult legal opinion as to whether there is any future gift tax.

I, as Superior of the Sisters Servants of the Poor." wish to express my f'eelings regarding the possibility of Msgr. Galindo's change to another parish. . Our congregation staffs the Guadalupe Day Nursery-. We at this l'IlOll1Emt are in need or a new nursery becuase the present one needs -too many repairs and has been semi-condenmed by the Health Department. I believe that Msgr. Galindo has the capacity to build a new nursery -if he were to remain here f'or at least another year. We have been here for nearly tventy years and we would not like to see the nursery closed.

A new nursery would mean that we could care for Mre children. At the present time lIB are allowed care for only hrenty-two children. Wi th another nursery we could take care of' the many children who have had to be rejectBd because of lack or space.

This would be separate f'rom the $8,000 project that rill soon be funded by the Federal Government regarding the Satellite Center which was established because or Msgr. Galindo's efforts.

In the years that I have bean here I have noticed that Msgr. Galindo is able to handle the many problems tliat arise in a parish as large as Our Lady ot: Guadalupe.

I feel that to change Msgr. Galindo at this time wuld be a great tragedy.

    Dear Msgr. Eagen:

    June 14, 1973

Tha~ you very much for your letter of June 8, 1973, inviting me to con celebrate Mass and to be your dinner guest on July 1.

I am not sure whether I will be able to attend as I am planning to begin my vacation on that particular day. I will do everything possible to be present.

The group that you had last year is a mariachi group from Chula Vista. The person in charge is Mr. Carlos Aranda, 577 otis Street, Chula Vista. (422-1742) They are very dependable, and I am sure that if they don't have another engagement on that day they will be willing to play for you.

    Sincerely yours in Christ J

"I . . .. firmly hold and accept each and every definition of the. unerring teaching of the Church. with all she has maintained and declared, but especially those points of doctrine which express~ . Iy combat the errors of our time. In the first place I profess my belief that God, the beginning and end of all, c~ be certainly known and thereiore proved to exist by the' natural light of reason from the things that are made, that is, from the visible works of the creation as a cause from its effects. Next I recognize and acknowledge the external arguments of revelation, that is, divine facts, especially miracles and prophe-cies, as most certain signs of the divine origin of the Christian religion, and I hold that these are altogether suited to the understanding of every age and of all men, also of our times. Thirdly. I likewise hold "'ith firm faith that the Church, the guardian and exponent of the revealed Word, was proxirr.ately and directly founded by the true and bis· toric Christ Himself, whHe He dwelt amongst us, and that she was also built upon Peter, the Prince of the ,.l"postolic Hierarchy, and upon his successors to the end of time. Fourthly, I sincerely accept the teaching of faith as trans-mitted down to us from the Apostles through the orthodox Fathers in the same sense and e\-eu in the same word-ing; and, therefore, I wholly reject the heretical notions of the e,'o;ution of dogmas, \Vhicn pass from one sense to another alien to that which the Church held from the start; and I likewise cou-deull.l every error whereby is substitut-ed for the didne deposit, entrusted by Christ to His Spouse and by Her to be faithfully guarded, a philoso?hic sys-tem or the creation of a ht::tl3.n COll· sciousness, graciualiy refine':! by the striving of men and finally to be per-fected hereafter by indefinite progress. Fifthly, I hold for certain ani sincerely profess that Paith is not a blind religious sense making its \\'ay out of the hidden regions of the sub-liminal consciousness, morally tiuged by the influer.,e of heart and \Vill, but is a true assent of the in~ tellect to truth received fro:-.1 without by hearing, an assent where~l:- we be-lieve to be true, because of the au thodty of the all-true God, \\'hate\'cr by the personal God, our Creator and Lord, has been spoken, testified anJ revealed,

"I further, with all due reverence, submit and with my whole mind ad-here to all the condemnations, declara-tions, and ordinances contained in the Encyclical letter Pascendi and in the Decree Lamentabf'li, particularly re~ garding what is called the history of Dogma.

HI also reject the error of those who aver that the Faith proposed by the Church may be in conflict with history, and that Catholic dogmas in the sense in which they are now understood can-not be harmonized with the more truth-ful "origins" of Christianity. More-over, I condemn aud reject the opinion which declares that a Christian man of better culture can assume a dual per-sonality, one as a believer and another as an historian, as if it were permissible for the historian to hold fast ,\"hat his faith as a believer contradicts, or to lay dO,ql premises from which there fol-lows the falsity or the uncertainty of dogmas, provided only that these are not directly denied. Likewise I reject that method of estimating and interpret-ing Holy Writ, which, setting aside the Church's tradition and the analogy of Faith and the rules of the Apostolic See, adopts the rationalists' principles and with equal arbitrariness and rashness considers criticism of the text the one only supreme rule. Furthermore, I re-ject the opinion of those who hold that a teacher of the science of Historical Theology or the writer on the subject must first put aside the notions pre-viously conceived about the superna-tural origin of Catholic tradition or about the divine aid promised for the perpetual preserYation of each re~'ealed truth; then, that the writings of in-dividual Fathers must be interpreted solely by the data of science, without any reference to sacred authority, and with that freedom of judgment where-

-with e\'ery profane record is usually examined.

"Finally and in general, I declare my-self to be far removed from the error of .the modernists who hold that in sacred tradition there is nothing inher-ently divine; or- who-far worse still-aclmi t it ill a pantheistic sense; so that thus there \\'ou:d remain only a bare simple fact equal to the ordina(r facts of history, ,-iz .. that the school started by Christ and His Apostles finds, in the ages that follow, men to carry it on by their energy, their skill, anJ their genius. Wherefore most firmly do I retain and to my last breath \\"ill I retain the Faith of the Fathers of the Church concern-ing the sure endowment of truth, which

Ha.ec omnia spondeo me fideliter, in-tegre sincereque servaturum et inviola-biliter custoditurum, nusquam ab lis sive in docendo sive quomodolibet ver-bis scriptisque deflectendo. Sic spon-deo, sic iuro, sic me Deus adjuvet, et haec sancta Dei Evangelia.
