Day 1:

Flight Amsterdam/Düsseldorf - Colombo

You will be flying with one of the best airliners in the world from

Amsterdam/Düsseldorf to Dubai/Abu Dhabi. After a short, relax stop

at one of the luxurious airports you will be flying to Colombo (the

capital of Sri Lanka). This flight only takes a few hours.

Day 2: Negombo beach

Our English speaking driver will pick you up at the international

airport in Colombo. He will drive you to your hotel in Negombo. You

can relax here, take a walk at the beautiful beach or read a book at

the fantastic swimming pool.

Day 3 and 4: Anuradhapura & Wilpattu National Park (option)

Today you will be driven to the city of Anuradhapura. You will stay in a

nice hotel in a quiet part of the town.

In Anuradhapura you will visit the old royal city and see great temples,

beautiful stupa’s and other century-old buildings. In the old city

stands one of the oldest trees in the world (more than 2000 years

old); the holy Bodhi tree. This tree is a cutting from the Bodhi tree

under which Lord Buddha reached enlightenment (Nirwana).

Optional you can choose to make a jeep safari in Wilpattu National

Park. Here you have a good change to spot elephants, leopards,

deer’s and birds of prey. All the leopard photos on our website are

made in Wilpattu.

Day 5, 6, 7 and 8 Sigiriya, Dambulla & Polonaruwa

Now we will go to the centre of the highlights of Sri Lanka: The

Cultural Triangle. Here you will visit some of the best cultural

highlights in Sri Lanka. We will start with the famous Lionrock in

Sigiriya.

Day 5, 6, 7 and 8 (continue): Sigiriya, Dambulla & Polonaruwa

It’s very clear why the Lionrock is called that way. It used to have a

huge carved lion head with huge lion feet at the entrance, which is

half way the rock. The head has been long gone, but the feet are still

there. On top of the rock you can clearly see the ruins of a palace,

baths, gardens and other structures.

Next highlight are the beautiful cave temples from Dambulla.

Dambulla is really famous due to the Golden Temple and the amazing

big golden Buddha statue. The actual holy temple is in a cave. Most of

the statues and paintings in this cave represent Lord Buddha. But you

can also find paintings and statues from the Hindu gods Vishnu and

Ganesha.

We will leave the hotel to visit the ancient royal city Polonaruwa. And

with a good reason: In Polonaruwa you can find the best examples of

Buddhist art. Beautiful statues expresses the great craftsmanship of

this ancient culture. Within a rectangle of city walls stand palace

buildings and clusters of dozens of dagobas, temples and various

other religious buildings.

After the great cultural highlights, it’s time for nature. You will visit

Minneriya NP. This park is famous due to the large amount of

elephants who live here. There are a lot of different animals and birds

you can spot, besides the elephants.

Day 9 and 10: Kandy

Kandy is an important city for the Buddhist population of Sri Lanka. In

this city lays the beautiful Temple of the Tooth. In this temple, packed

in 7 golden boxes who fit perfectly in each other, is the tooth from

Lord Buddha kept. Once a year, during a 10-day procession

(Perahera), the holy Tooth is carried through the town on the back of

colourfully decorated elephants. In 2016 the Perahera is held from 8th

till 18th of August (this can always change).

You will visit the botanical gardens of Kandy, see a great cultural

show at night, see a nice crafts market and visit the famous gem

museum. A great program for this royal town.

Day 11 and 12: Nuwara Eliya, Ella and Horton Plains

Time to cool down from the tropical heat, you are going to the

mountain area. First stop is Nuwara Eliya with its amazing post-office

and beautiful Grand hotel. Then to the famous big waterfalls near Ella.

The idea is to take a hike over the Horton Plains, this is a mountain

plateau in the middle of Sri Lanka. You will drive through pine forests

(at a tropical island!) till you reach the Plains. Here you can take a walk

to some waterfalls and points of view.

Day 13 and 14: Yala National Park

We are leaving the mountain area and drive to Yala, the most famous

National Park from Sri Lanka.

You can take a morning or afternoon safari. Here you have the chance

to see leopards, elephants, deer’s and other animals. Research has

proven that Yala has the highest concentrations of leopards per

square kilometre.

That’s why Yala is one of the best places in the world to spot this

magnificent animals. The kind of leopard in Yala is also very special,

it’s a sub-species which only lives in Sri Lanka.

Day 15 and 16: Udawalawe

Udawalawe National Park is a wetland park with lakes, creeks and

small rivers. All this water will attract animals, especially elephants.

They can take a bath here, drink and eat fresh water plants.

Besides the elephants there are a lot of other animals. You can find a

large variety of water birds, bird of prey, monitor lizards and

crocodiles. Udawalawe is one of the best places to spot all kinds of

birds.

Day 17 and 18: Tangalle beach

Back to the coast, in this case to Tangalle. This is the place where you

can relax, enjoy the sea, the sun and the beach. At night you can have

a delicous dinner in the restaurant. There is a possibility (if you are

really lucky) to see big sea turtles going out of the see to lay eggs on

the beach. You will also visit a turtle hatchery to see and learn more

about this sea creatures.

Day 19 and 20: Mirissa and Galle

A unique experience: See the Blue Whale! Today you are going with

Raja & the Whales on a boat. Raja has a lot of experience in finding

these enormous animals, so you have a very good change to actually

see the biggest animal in the world. Besides the Blue Whale you can

also see dolphins and flying fishes. The trip starts at the harbour of

Mirissa.

You can visit the old Dutch fort with the Dutch church in Galle. Take a

relax walk on the fort’s walls and visit the small colonial shops. Or you

can go to the new city, which is really alive. Take a look at different

(spice)markets. Or relax and drink a cocktail at Unawatuna beach.

Day 21: Flight Colombo - Amsterdam/Düsseldorf

Our driver will bring you back to Colombo international airport. After

a stop in Dubai/Abu Dhabi you will be flying back to

Amsterdam/Düsseldorf full of memories of a great time!
