one of the 4 er 5 large.st producers of propellers for Jap::mase

combat-type aircraft. In addition. this cc:mllany produces large

quanti ties of aluminum. and duraluminum e.ssential to aircraft pro..

center of Os,aka), nas be1ili;ved to produce aircraft components for

the Ka:iianisbi .l.ircroft Company.

(3) Misaion Number 286 t The Osa.ka .'.rrJy :irsenal,

located in the eastern part of Osaka. 7 miles northeast of Os~n.

PART II - RAD[O

1. Strike Reports: There were 6 9 strike reports received dur-

ing these missions. The reason for the excessive number of bombsaway messages was due to tho large number of targets. Tho 313th l7ing

reported rcce.iving 6 contact reports (ship sightings) during thesemissions.

2. Fox Transmissions: The 1 + Wings participating in these I!lis-

sions averaged onlY 7 3 . 1 per cent on aerial operators copying Fox mes-

sages from the ground station. Following is 9. per cent age. breakdmm by

Wingaircraft operatots logging "F" type'messages transmitted froLl the

ground station: 58th, 6 9 per cent; 7 3r d , 8 7 . 8 per cent; 313th, 7 4 0 1per cent, and 314th. 6 1 . 7 POI' cent. Biggest reason for Llanyoperators

not receiving thase raessagea was atmospheric interference, which was

very heavy over the target area·S. 0ther reasons included off watch by

direction of airplane commander, guarding air sea rescue frequencies,

air sick, helping navig'3tor on Loran fixes. and enemy interference on

tho strike frequencies.

3. Frequencies: , H e a v y atmospheric interference mlS encountared

by all aircraft radio operators 'over the target area. The 7 . 3 r dWingused its neITIyassigned 3160 Kes frequency for the first time and re-

ported the frequency ~.. having a good. signal. rleak to model',to e n in-

terference was encountered on this frequency during the'entire nission.

Following is a percentage breakdown of' traffic por frequency: 8 . 4 per

cent on :; tlcgacyclesj 2 8 . 3 per cont on 7 megacycles; 62.8 per cont on11 megacycles.

4. Navigat ional Aids: There were 2 requests for HFD F bearings

received by the \7ing ground stations; both m~re obtained. One emer-

gency fix was obtained and 2 HF/DFbe'arlngs Vlore obtained from the 1\10

;rima AACSstation. Condor Base, Saip.no, 'received 2 requests for VHFI

D F bearings; both were obtainod. Ran~os, homers and broadcast stationswere used effectively.

5. Net Discipline a n n Securitv: Thore were several instancos of

aircraft radio operators transmitting before listening and broko in on

to other aircraft's transmiSSions. CorrectivQ action was taken. No

securit,y violations were recorded during these tlissions.
