At this year’s Folk Festival, the Australian Breastfeeding Association will be providing a ‘Baby feed and change’ space, available on Sunday, March 24 from 10am to 3pm. The location is Ardsville House (cnr Wellsford and High streets), a house set back off the main street, offering a quiet and comfortable area for mothers and families to take a break. This service is run by volunteers. There will be tea/coffee, toilet facilities and a change table available. Australian Breastfeeding Association is a national service run by volunteers providing breastfeeding information and support to families. Towards sustainability

The Yackandandah Folk Festival aims to have zero landfill waste by 2022. We are slowly making progress! In 2018, the Green Team volunteers sorted 80 bins of discarded material during the weekend. The result? Twenty-five bins sent to recycling, 13 bins

composted and now growing the community garden, 11 bins sent to landfill and 32 bins returned empty.In 2016 all 80 bins went to landfill due to contamination.

This year, please help us by;

• Using the “Drop it Here” stations and putting your stuff in the correct bin (signage and helpers will be there to guide you.)

• using the yellow-topped recycling bins for any items that are known to be recyclable

• using the green-topped bins for items that are compostable - compostablee food containers, scraps, bones - and asking a Green Teamster for advice if unsure

• only using the red-toppd bins (destined for landfill) if your material cannot be reused or recycled. The red bin is a last resort!

• refilling your reusable water bottle at water points provided (marked on the map). You can buy a folk festival water bottle at the ticket collection office if you forgot your own

• use the Dish Piglet wash stations on Saturday, or water points, to rinse your reusable food containers

Totally Renewable

Yackandandah (TRY)

Yackandandah has spawned some ripper community groups, one of which is TRY (Totally

Renewable Yackandandah). TRY is leading the community towards 100% renewable power by 2022. During 2019 TRY recorded a mighty milestone, generating 1GWh of electricity from the mini grid installed in late 2017. Fifty percent of Folk Festival surplus supports the 100% goal. Starting in Feb 2019, Yackandandah will become the proud owner of a ‘Virtual Power Plant’ - solar panels on public buildings sharing electricity with friends and neighbours. This $170,000 project brings alive the new energy vision! Learn more at: totallyrenewableyack.org.au

Autumn is the peak season for wasp activity and nest building. Please guard your food and drink from wasps.

Our aim is become a sustainable and carbon neutral event. In 2014, in partnership with Yackandandah’s cooperatively owned petrol station, YCDCo, 3kW solar panels were installed. These generate more power annually than is used in the main venues during our entire festival.
