3. PERSONAL SAFETYa) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and usecommon sense when operating a power tool. HEDGE TRIMMER SAFETY

WARNINGS1. Keep all parts of the body away from the cutterblade. Do not remove cut material or hold material tobe cut when blades are moving. Make sure the switchis off when clearing jammed material. Blades coastafter turn off. A moment of inattention while operatingthe hedge trimmer may result in serious personalinjury.2. Carry the hedge trimmer by the handle with thecutter blade stopped. When transporting or storing thehedge trimmer always fit the cutting device cover.Proper handling of the hedge trimmer will reducepossible personal injury from the cutter blades.3. Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfacesonly, because the cutter blade may contact hiddenwiring or its own cord. Cutter blades contacting a ”live”wire may make exposed metal parts of the powertool ”live” and could give the operator an electricshock.4. Keep cable away from cutting area. Duringoperation the cable may be hidden in shrubs and canbe accidentally cut by the blade.5. Keep hands away from blade. Contact with bladewill result in serious personal injury.6. Use both hands when operating the hedge trimmer.Using one hand could cause loss of control and resultin serious personal injury7. Only use with handle and guard properlyassembled to hedge trimmer. The use of the hedgetrimmer without the proper guard or handle providedmay result in serious personal injury8. Check the hedge for foreign objects, e.g. wirefences9. Recommendation for the use of a residual currentdevice with a tripping current of 30mA or less.

SAFETY RULES FOR EXTENSION CORDMake sure your extension cord is in good condition.When using an extension cord, be sure to use oneheavy enough to carry the current your product willdraw. An undersized extension cord will cause a dropin line voltage resulting in loss of power andoverheating. Table 1 shows the correct size to usedepending on cord length and nameplate ampererating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gage. Thesmaller the gage number, the heavier the cord. To

reduce the risk of disconnection of appliance cordfrom the extension cord during operating:I) Make a knot as shown in Figure 1; orII) Use one of the plug-receptacle retaining straps orconnectors described in this manual.

ASSEMBLY

BLADE COVERWARNING! Ensure the hedge trimmer isdisconnected from the power supply before removingcover and preparing for use.Fitting and Removing the Blade CoverThe hedge trimmer comes with a blade cover toprotect the blades when storing. The blade cover mustbe removed prior to operation.1. Slide the blade cover off the blade.

2. To fit, slide the cover back over the blade.

WARNING! Never use the hedge trimmer with theblade cover fitted.

SAFETY GUARD1. Make sure that the safety guard is attached

securely.

CORD RETAINER1. Make a loop with the extension cord and push itthrough the hole under the on/off switch.

2. Place the loop onto the cord retainer and ensure itis pulled firmly into place.

Using an extension leadAlways use an approved extension lead suitable forthe power input of this tool. Before use, inspect theextension lead for signs of damage, wear and ageing.Replace the extension lead if damaged or defective.When using an extension lead on a reel, alwaysunwind the lead completely. Use of an extension leadnot suitable for the power input of the tool or which isdamaged or defective may result in a risk of fire andelectric shock.

OPERATION

CHECKS PRIOR TO OPERATIONWARNING! Ensure the hedge trimmer isdisconnected from the power supply beforeperforming any of the following operations.If any parts are missing, damaged or broken, do notoperate your Hedge trimmer until all damaged partshave been replaced or repaired. Failure to do so couldresult in serious personal injury. DO NOT USEWITHOUT HANDLE AND GUARD.

1. Check that the blades are not damaged. if so theblades will need to be replaced.

2. Check that the extension cord is positioned in thecord retainer firmly.

WARNING! Make sure that the work area is free ofrocks, debris, lines and other foreign objects.3. Connect the extension cord socket to the hedgetrimmer power cord.

CONTROLSFor user safety the safety switch and on/off switchmust be operated simultaneously.1. Using one hand depress and hold the safety switchon the front handle.

2. To turn on squeeze the on/off switch.3. Once either the safety switch or on/off switch isreleased the hedge trimmer will stop.WARNING! Always use the hedge trimmer with bothhands.

USING THE HEDGE TRIMMER1. Ensure the extension cord is behind the trimmerand away from operation.

2. Maintain proper footing and balance. Do notoverreach.3. Squeeze both the safety switch and the on/offswitch to start the trimmer.

4. Use wide sweeping motions, feeding the bladeteeth through the twigs.

5. A slight downward tilt will achieve the best results.

6. For trimming sides, begin at the bottom and sweepup.

NOTE: Do not cut hedges when wet. (The best resultsare achieved when dry)

MAINTENANCEWARNING! Ensure the hedge trimmer isdisconnected from the power supply beforeperforming any of the following operations.

• When not in use, the Hedge Trimmer should bestored in a dry, frost free location not within the reachof children.• Keep ventilation slots of the Hedge Trimmer clean atall times and prevent any foreign matter from entering.• If the enclosure of the Hedge Trimmer requirescleaning do not use solvents but a moist cloth only.• There are no user serviceable parts in the HedgeTrimmer; if a fault is suspected or the supply cordrequires replacement, return the Trimmer to a powertool repairer.• The blade rail should be cleaned and treated withlight machine oil or spray lubricant (such as WD40,CRC 5.56 or RP7) after each use. When a job lasts fora longer period of time it is recommended that theblade rail also be treated with spray lubricant atregular intervals during operation.

Carbon BrushesWhen the carbon brushes wear out, the hedgetrimmer will spark and/or stop. Discontinue use assoon as this happens. They should be replaced priorto recommencing use of the hedge trimmer. Carbonbrushes are a wearing component of the hedgetrimmer therefore not covered under warranty.Continuing to use the hedge trimmer when carbonbrushes need to be replaced may cause permanentdamage to the hedge trimmer. Carbon brushes willwear out after many uses but when the carbonbrushes need to be replaced, take the hedge trimmerto an electrician or a power tool repairer for a quickand low cost replacement. Always replace bothcarbon brushes at the same time.

Note: Aavix will not be responsible for any damage orinjuries caused by the repair of the hedge trimmer byan unauthorized person or by mishandling of thehedge trimmer. This tool is designed for DIY use - usein commercial or industrial environments will void thewarranty.
