1 Volume 37 Number 2 February 2016 Punta Gorda, Florida Elks Lodge #2606 The Tale Julie Avers, ER (941) 637-2606 X405 [email protected] I can tell winter is here! Our weather has been colder than usual and the Lodge is very crowded. With over 4071 members, we are challenged to nd a place to park and then when we get inside, we are challenged to nd a place to sit. And it doesn’t help that the weather is too cold to sit outside at the Tiki. The months of January, February, and March are, of course, the most dicult. And, someƟmes, moving tables and chairs around creates more of a prob- lem and is not part of the soluƟon to our crowded condiƟons. So, please keep smiling and be paƟent. A big Thank You to the cabin rental guests who pitch in and do a variety of jobs around the cabins and Lodge. Your help is truly appreciated! You come here on vacaƟon and then you do lots of work. Thank you so much. Also, a special thank you to Judy & Fred Nuetzel who are chairing Monday Night Chicken and to all the chicken volunteers - Monday morning and Monday night. We have a great group of volunteers for all our endeavors-not just chicken. Thanks to all of you who volunteer for Rings & Wings, 50/50, Picnic on the River, Sunday Breakfast and grounds maintenance. I appreciate all you do and, of course, you know - we couldn’t do it without all of you. In addiƟon, I’d like to thank Dick Fry who can be found out here most days doing a variety of jobs. I know there are many members who work out here and I don’t see or know all of you but your eorts are truly appreciated. The rst meeƟng in February (Feb 2 nd ) is nominaƟon of ocers. If you would like to know more about the respon- sibiliƟes of the various ocers, please contact me or the Lodge Secretary. February 16 will be elecƟon night and it is also Past Exalted Rulers Night. That means that members of the PER AssociaƟon will run this meeƟng and conduct IniƟaƟon. I hope we will have a large member turnout for both of these meeƟngs. On Tuesday, January 19, we had a brief ceremony to dedicate our elk statue to the Lodge. AŌer 35 years without an elk statue, we bought our statue and placed it in front of the Lodge just before installaƟon of ocers on March 29, 2015. It is a beauƟful statue and we are very proud of all he represents. Also, in the dining room entrance, a plaque, showing the names of everyone who contributed to this project was completed by Carl Rehling, PER. Thank you to everyone who helped make this project happen. As most of you know, there are lots of things going on in February. The Elks Variety Show at the Cultural Center, February 4-6; Elks Quarterly MeeƟng at UmaƟlla, February 4-6; PER Spagheƫ Dinner, February 9; ValenƟne’s Day Dinner, February 14; Lobsterfest, February 21; and Army of Hope Picnic at Rotonda Elks Lodge, February 28. Please check your calendar so you don’t miss a thing and have fun ! See you at the Lodge. FEBRUARY MESSAGE

February, the month of LOVE! One thing the Elks and Elkettes believe in. We love to raise funds for our many charities. Re-member to show your support by volunteering, donating and participat-ing in our many events. It does take a village. The Elkettes want to thank Jennie, Cathy, and the bar crew for helping

us sell tickets for our Neil Diamond tribute show held on January 31st. We were sold out for this event. Keith Allynn aka Neil Diamond was terrific. All who attended had a great time. Next month, March 19th the Elkettes will have our an-nual Ladies Tea. There will be a Chinese Auction, a great lunch, and prizes for different categories of hats worn by the ladies attending, so get creative ladies. Hats are not required for this event, but if you choose, hats are welcome. The tickets are $20.00. Get them early, they are sure to sell out. Unfortunately, we had to cancel some of our Wednes-day morning bocce games. The weather was too cold. It is hard to play bocce with winter coats and gloves. Let's hope for a warmer February. Have a great Mardi Gras, a great Valentine’s Day and a great Presidents Day. See you in March. Margo
