Cobalt’s dual overhead cam all-aluminum ECOTEC engines are

the product of a global GM Powertrain effort. The idea was to

integrate the best four-cylinder engine features GM engineers

had developed around the world. The result is a family of

ECOTEC engines that reduce friction to increase output and

fuel efficiency. Less friction also translates into reduced heat,

harshness and vibration. The achievements speak for themselves.

The 2.2L ECOTEC engine in LS and LT models generates more

standard horsepower than you’ll get in either Toyota Corolla or

Honda Civic. The engine isn’t only powerful, it’s also exceptionally

fuel-efficient, with 9.2L/100 km (31 mpg) city and 5.9L/100 km

(48 mpg) highway ratings.* It took global thinking to enhance
