PROCEDURE1 Ask the students to call o ut the names of the countries they
come from and write them on the board .lfyou have amcnccultural class, ask them to call out any names ofcountries around the world. Write the relevant stre ss
patterns next [Q each name.
2 Ask the students to w ork in groups of three.
3 Give one copy of the w o rksheet to each gro up and askthe m 10 choose one member of the group to do the
writing.
4 Explain that theyare going to playa game of dominoes but
that before they can sta rt , they have to writ e in the stresspanerns for the names of the countries in bo xes 5 to 12.Point OUI the way the dominoes are arranged and exp lainthai they are numbered on the worksheet to show whichname goes with which stress pattern . Demonstrate this
using the examples which are already filled in on th e
worksheet.
HOW TO PLAY TIlE GAME
1 Shuffle the dominoes .
2 Player; take four dominoes each.
3 Player A puts down any on e of th eir dominoes face up.
4 The player on Player A's left (Player B) must then p utdown one of their dominoes, making sure that the nameon their domino matches the st ress panern, or the SIJ'eSS

domino.

PROCEDUREl' Ask the students to watch you and guess what you are
doing. Mime something simple like eating a pizza. You donot have to be a brilliant mime artist, but it is essential thatyou are willingto mime enthusiasticallyand nOI beembarrassed - this will put the students at ease when it istheir tum 10 do amime. While you art miming, encouragethe students to callout guesses as soon as they have anidea. Make sure they are using the present continuous. Ifnecessary, mime another activity , for example makingacup of tea.
2 Tell the students that they are going to take it in turns tomime an activity for the other stu d en ts to guess . Beforethey begin , divide them into teams of five to eight .
3 Decide which team is going to p lay fir5I and askthem10choose a student to do the first mime.
4 Give the first player a mimecard and explain to the classthat, while he/sh~ is mimingthe activity, only themembers of hisIherteamare allowed to call out guesses. Ifhislhcr learn do not guess the activity correctly, the otherteams are allowed to guess. Teams score two points foracorrect guess.
5 Continue until all the mime cards have been used. Theteam with the highestscore are the winners.

2 Explain that you are going to give them 20 sentences, bUIthat each sentence is in two parts. Their task is to find 20bets by finding the two parts of each sentence w hich gotogether correcuy.
3 Ask the students to work in groups of three or four andgive one set of cards to eac h group.
4 Tell the students to shuffle their cards and then spreadthem out, face up. on the table .

PROCEDURE1 Explain to the students that they are 'going to do a class

2 If there are more than 16 students in the class , divide theminto groups. Ask the students to w ork with a partner fromthe same group and give o n e card to each pair of students.
3 Explain that each pair of stud e n ts is responsible for askingeverybody in the class or grou p all lhe quesnons on theircard . They should put a tick e ac h time somebody answersyes and a cross each time somebody answers 110 10 one ofthe questions.
