Larry the Lobster visits PP2

To go along with our theme 'Under the Sea' PP2 had a visit from a REAL lobster!

Most of the children had never seen a lobster before and none of them had

touched one! At first the children were a little scared but by the end of the day

Larry the Lobster was everyone's best friend. We learnt lots of interesting

information about lobsters including the fact that a lobster can grow back a leg if

they lose one!!!!!!. We brought Larry the lobster out and laid him on the table and

PP2 loved feeling his hard shell and ten spiky legs. The children then wrote some

fabulous lobster facts based on their exciting language experience.

Dear Parents and Caregivers

NAPLAN

NAPLAN results are out and we’ll send the reports out on Friday 1 September 2017. While the school did well (better than I had expected), I need to reiterate the fact that these are a one off test that examine what is a slither of the broader curriculum. As such, they are not a valid indicator of future performance and just provide us with a snapshot in time of where we were in week 2 of Term 2 2017.The data can be useful in giving us a broader look at our strengths and weakness and the ability to highlight cohort strengths and weaknesses which may indicate teaching deficiencies and areas of strength. It also shows us so clearly on the tight correlation that exists between attendance and achievement. Before the end of this term I’ll develop and publish a detailed analysis of the data and follow up action plan. This will culminate in a community NAPLAN forum that I’ll hold on Wednesday 20 September 2017 at 9am in the staffroom.

Girls’ AFL Team

On Sunday 20 August 2017 our magnificent girls played in the curtain raiser to the Richmond v Fremantle game at Subiaco. We were coached by Mrs Williams and supported by our runner Mrs Kemp. I could not be prouder of the girls as they played with courage and tenacity throughout the day. We played against a wide variety of people from different backgrounds and saw and heard a lot of pretty ordinary behaviour. However, to their credit our girls remained hard and true to the spirit of the game. They tackled hard but fair and never took their eyes off the ball. Well done girls and thank you for such a wonderful day shared with you.

P&C

On Wednesday 9 September 2017 the P&C held a really important meeting that will have a positive outcome for all families not only this year but into the future. The P&C agreed with Mr Jones’ suggestion that they pay for all incursions and continue to pay for some of the Edu Dance program. This means that all incursions from here on will be funded by the P&C, and the constant requests for money from the school will cease immediately. We believe that this will add value to each families South Padbury experience as it means that P&C funds are spent on every student in a timely manner and the inconvenience of continually paying for activities is ceased. I thank and commend the P&C on this outstanding initiative.

School Board

The School Board met on Wednesday 16 August and decided that from now on all student toilets will have soap and hand towels provided as opposed to the current system whereby hand-sanitizer is provided in the toilets with soap and paper towels provided in each wet area. As soon as the ordering is complete this change will take effect.

We also discussed the parking issue and reiterated that it is not a school and P&C issue per say, but a Council issue as parking sits outside of our operational jurisdiction. The school and P&C have both referred the issue to the City of Joondalup Ranger. In so far as the staff car park, this does fall within our jurisdiction as it is purely a safety issue. If you end up locked inside the car park, please expect a long wait to be freed.

Dogs on Premises

Please don’t bring your dogs into the ECE area on weekends. It’s not designed as a dog exercise area and we’re over people’s dogs defecating in this area. It’s disgusting that people do this and I’ve asked Education Security to patrol the school to clamp down on this practice.

Indonesian Day

INDO LINGO

Well, the sun came out and shone on us for our very special Indonesian Day last Thursday! It was great to see so

much red and white (merah dan putih) with the children’s clothes and also the staff who dressed up for the day too.

The whole school was buzzing with excitement while participating in a variety of activities revolving around

Indonesian culture.

A big thankyou to Salma Liputo, Sam Verrall and Thel Prabawa for helping with the classes cooking Nasi Goreng.

The kids loved preparing and eating this very popular Indonesian dish.

The day was a huge success and could not have been possible without the awesome cooperation of all the staff. The

art work produced was beautiful, the outdoor games great fun and the Kahoot quizzes, certainly tested everyone’s

knowledge!

Until next year!

Terima kasih

banyak!

VACANCY Treasurers position

Help - Desperately seeking a replacement Treasurer.

Is there anyone available (and interested) to take on the role for the rest of the year? You will have a supportive Co-Treasurer to guide you. I will also be available as a support in any way that I can.

If we are unable to find a new Treasurer the P&C will fold, which means no Canteen, no Uniform Shop, no Disco, no paid incursions, no lunch at the Faction Carnival and no future events.

ALL the money in our bank accounts must then be transferred to the closest P&C, namely Padbury Primary P&C. This includes all funds raised by the Year 6's for their Graduation.

Our P&C does so much to support our school. Every single child in our school benefits from P&C activities.

Please contact me ASAP at ([email protected]) if you would like to hear more about the role.

Thank you so much
