Davis had a kidney failure in 2005. His kind mother donated a kidney to him and after some months he was recovered and back to work.

David is also a guitarplay-er and songwriter. Some-times he plays live in pubs, but mostly in the company of his good friends.

David lives in Iverness, Scotland, but he comes from Holm, Lewis. David join the DOF team in the end of 2007, where he has sailed on great vessels with new friends. The most memorable time was working for Statoil on the west coast of Nor-way. You can’t put a price on the knowledge which was passed down from the Captain about pilotage on the Norwegian coast. David started his sailing career with his grandfather, a lobster fisherman, during the school holidays. Like the old people say:

“its in the blood”.

SKANDI MØGSTER IN BRAZILThe pictures are taken in beautifully Angra Dos Reis and Ilha Grande. Both are famous places West of Rio de Janeiro where locals and tourists go to relax. We were there to bring a rig, as is now the 6th for OGX, back to Rio de Janeiro for a stay at the shipyard. The Pride Ven-ezuela was originally built in Norway in 1982, but has been in operation in Africa the last years. The crew there can not have been treated the rig well. Pride Venezuela has been 8 months in a yard in Dubai and changed 800 t of steel! The rig is definitively in better condition now and looks new. Skandi Møgster has now worked 1 year for OGX. This oil company started drilling in September last year with the rig Ocean Ambassador. We were there and had the honour to put out the first anchor and then the start of another business of a successful businessman in Brazil.Regards the crew

Skandi Aker was the 8th of September declared Ship of the Year 2010 by the Norwegian State Sec-retary Rikke Lind at the SMM 2010 trade show in Hamburg. Oddvar Stangeland, Nils Andrè Hille og Ole Kristoffer Nordbø was at the SMM to recieve the award.

The prestigeous SHIP OF THE YEAR-award is institut-ed by the major Nordic shipping magazine Skipsrevy-en. Price candidates are nominated by the readers of the magazine, but the final election is the responsibility of a jury consisting of the former MD of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association Mr. Rolf Sæther andthe MD of the sales and marketing organ-ization Norwegian Shipyards, Mr. Birger Skår and Publisher of Skipsrevyen, Mr. Asle B. Strønen.

Skandi Aker is built according to the STX Europe OSCV 06 L design. The vessel is capable of per-forming well intervention operations at water depths up to 3,000 metres, while other existing well-intervention vessels are limited to about 800 metres depth. Furthermore, and perhaps the most striking technical feature of this vessel, is that she can operate as a light drilling unit, and thus the ship has been classified as both ship and drilling unit.

Skandi Aker is the largest monohull subsea well intervention vessel built so far with large deck space, heavy capacity subsea cranes, excel-lent sea-keeping performance, all interventions on DP and high transit speed. The vessel is equipped with a Module Handling System and a 400 tons AHC crane.

It is thus evident that when it comes to technical features this ship is in the forefront in this field today. Instead of labelling her narrowly as well-intervention vessel, well cleaning vessel, vessel for coil-tubing or as a drilling unit, the shipyard has introduced the collective term “Subsea Service Vessel”.

The vessel has a diesel electric propul-sion system, and her dimensions are impressive: 156.9m l.o.a., 27m breadth and depth moulded of 12m. The deck measured about 2,100 m2 prior to instal-lation of the rucker deck and derrick.

Lars Heine’s CornerDear all,

In the Northern part of Europe we can now feel that summer has ended. Kids are back to school, and the daily routines are back on track for the most of us.September is usually a hectic month in the office as many activities after the summer holidays are post-poned to this period. Still I have been able to visit some of the vessels the last months, and it has been a pleasure to be onboard and talk to so many positive people. Feedbacks have been given, both positive and negative, and we will focus strongly on improving our services to the crew. I aim at giving you more informa-tion around this next month.

Vessels visited in August:Skandi Skolten (in Bergen, Norway)Skandi Barra (in Aberdeen, UK)Skandi Buchan (in Aberdeen, UK)
