FROM A SIMPLE IDEA......Craig Turner, the founder, spent many years designing aircraft, rockets and racing yachts, with his spare time consumed by cycling, sailing and designing a large variety of ground breaking consumer products. XLAB CHANGED HISTORY Nearly all carbon cages on the market are designed for use on bike frames. At XLAB we decided that for optimal functionality it was time to design cages for each location on the bike; Rear, Aerobar and Frame.

SPECIFIC DESIGNS We optimize for each location: Grip Force to retain the bottle in the cage, the Inside Flare to ease bottle entry, the Access Angle the bottle makes when entering the cage and the Bottom Tab strength to hold large bottles. The top hook is also optimized for its shape and position. Only the highest grade of Unidirectional and 3K Weave carbon fiber is used by XLAB in its carbon cages.

REAR CAGES Two grip force strengths are available. The GORILLA cage at 7 lbs is the most popular and is suitable for good road conditions. The GORILLA XT cage at 14 lbs is ideal for rougher surfaces and mountain biking.

Although the frame has typically been the storage location for water bottles, we decided to make many improvements.

AERODYNAMIC DRAGThe drag from a standard round bottle can be as much as 100 grams which can add nearly 2 minutes to an Ironman race. The XLAB AeRO TT system has half the drag. Although aero bottles have been available for years, they would often bounce out of the cages.The AeRO TT has the strongest cage grip force and we added a deep groove to make it easy to remove the bottle.

SAVING MORE TIMEDrinking around 20 ounces per hour can be time consuming. In order to reduce this time we developed the fi rst true racing bottle. It had to be clear to see the contents, calibrated so you could drink the correct amount every 15 minutes and have a fast fl ow rate. The design became the AQUA-shOT and has become a top seller around the world. Pro-athletes Caroline Steffen, Pete Jacobs, Rachel Joyce, Bek Keat and others use the AQUA-shOT.

SMALL FRAMES, QUICk ACCESS It is often impossible to have tall bottles on small frames, so XLAB developed the sIDekIck cage. The cages allow for the bottle to be withdrawn sideways with either the right or left hand. The bottle access speed is improved using the sIDekIck on any sized frame.

MATCHED SET XLAB now offers cages to suit all purposes for Road, Triathlon and Mountain bikes. All cages carry matching graphics for a coordinated look. The chIMP cage fulfi lls the role of a normal frame cage but with style and a steep cutoff to make accessing bottles faster than many conventional cages.

AERODYNAMICS The CFD analysis of the Cervélo™ P5 above shows the low pressure turbulent areas in blue. Filling in the blue area behind the stem reduces the bike’s drag. The top of the bag should be level with the top of the stem and the bag no wider than the stem.

XLAB AERO BAGS XLAB offers four heights of aero bags, 1.9", 2.3", 2.5”, 3.1” and 3.6”. XLAB aero bags are the most aerodynamic available today with the correct shape and low skin friction material. The interiors are light in color for ease of seeing contents and many of the bags have an extra inside pocket. Other popular features include super slide zippers, non-slip underneath surface, and extra long front straps to extend around cables entering the top tube or they are designed to bolt to top tube bolt bosses with the included screws. The ROckeT POckeTs are for higher stems and the sTeALTh series is for lower stem heights.
