Patience Is A Virtue “I waited patiently for the Lord” (Psalm 40:1). If I asked you what causes you to be impatient, how would you answer? Would you need time to consider the cause? Is it a specific person or people generally? Is it a

situation or circumstance, a problem, a character flaw, or a sin? Is it an illness, a disappointment, a failure, or even success? Is your impatience with your mate, your brethren, yourself, or, with God? Scripture is filled with both instruction and examples of this essential quality, including the ultimate example. The first virtue Paul ascribes to love (agape) is patience (1 Cor. 13:4a), while John describes the nature of God as love (1 John 4:8); therefore, we are never more Godlike than when we prove, in the midst of life experiences, to be patient. From both inspiration and experience Paul encouraged first century saints to imitate the patience of the Father: “Patient in tribulation” (Rom. 12:12); “Be longsuffering toward all” (1 Thess. 5:14); “Be gentle towards all, apt to teach, forbearing” (2 Tim. 2:24). To this the Hebrews writer encourages us to be “imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises” (Heb. 6:12). These texts remind us that as the children of God we are called to be patient with people, circumstances, pain, evil, and God, even when we do not understand; especially when we do not understand. The development of this wonderful virtue can only be accomplished when we rely on the model of patience displayed in the inspiration, authority, and application of Scripture to every situation life brings. May the Lord grant us the strength and wisdom to wait with patience, to endure, to persevere, and to continue on as we look forward to the Lord’s triumphant return.

Bill Wade To all of you who helped in any way to make our Youth Emphasis Day a success, I want you to know that it was very appreciated. The singing was terrific and I am confident that all of us were able to take something from the lessons presented. I would also like to thank you all for helping to welcome all of the new FHU freshmen. There was a line of people scattered through our commons area all the way to the fellowship hall shaking their hands and welcoming them to our church. This was and will continue to be an important thing for us to do. The Fall Quarter of our Bible classes will start on Sunday, September 4th. I’d like to use this space to give you a look at what will be discussed in our adult Bible classes during this quarter. Sunday mornings Auditorium class Bible Geography Prime Time class Minor Prophets Senior Commons class Gospel Advocate quarterly Faith & Family class God and Government C.I.A. class Christian Parenting College class Holiness

We are blessed with some great teachers, and being involved in a Bible class is a great way to become more connected with your church family. Bible classes begin at 9:00AM on Sundays and at 7:00PM on Wednesdays. Children’s classes for all ages also begin at these times. You will most certainly be blessed by your time spent in Bible class.

Quick Announcements:

Fifth Quarters: Don’t forget that as football season gets underway we’ll be starting up our fifth quarters for home games. These will start at 9:00 p.m. at the church and will go until midnight. Come eat, play ball, hang out, and (hopefully) celebrate CCHS wins this season.

Now that we’re getting back in the swing of things with school, don’t forget to continue to support one another. Band, football, girls’ soccer, golf, theater, etc. are all underway and you guys have a diverse group of interests. Make sure when you have a minute to encourage those around you.

RUSH: RUSH is coming up on the third weekend of September. This year’s theme is The Desert, and about 1500 teens will be gathering together to discuss what we can learn about the temptation of Jesus in the desert. I’ve looked over the classes and keynote topics and it’s going to be a really good event. If you haven’t signed up, but still want to go, be sure to see Jared or Bill and let them know. The cost for RUSH is $20.

Fall Retreat: Our fall retreat is about a month away! Make plans to join us from Sept. 30-Oct. 2 as we head out of Henderson for a weekend to spend some time singing, worshipping, praying, playing games, eating, staying up late, and getting closer to one another. And be looking out on all our social media platforms for this year’s theme once the shirt designs are finished. It’s going to be a good one this year! This is one of the highlights of the fall. Make sure you sign up in the teen room if you plan on going.

Hope that you have an awesome week! Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. – 1 Timothy 4:12
