Question - Describe specifically why you want to attend the accelerated Doctor of Pharmacy

program at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Please also include any

impressions that you may have of MCPHS and the Worcester, MA area.

Answer – The reason behind my attending the accelerated Doctor of Pharmacy at

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Worcester, MA campus because I

had heard about the institute’s reputation, its distinguished faculty, and cooperative staff, all

willing to help and support the students’ interactivity, and then there is an additional benefit

of easy commute for students to classrooms and dorms.

The director of Admission, Bryan J. Witham, visited my campus, San Francisco State

University, during the month of May. From his informational speech, about the school of

pharmacy at Worcester, MA, and at Manchester, NH area, I gathered a set of fascinating

knowledge about the Worcester campus. I can understand how comfortable the living and

learning life would be at MCPHS because of the easy access to classrooms, laboratories, and

clinical sites. It would also provide me with a chance to interact effectively and efficiently

with the learned professors and my fellow classmates. I believe that the intimate learning

environment will also help me comprehending the class materials, building up my

communication skills and enhancing my learning skills. And above all the exceptional rate of

the student passing National State Board Exam has further strengthened my belief that this

accelerated three year long program will definitely prepare the students to achieve success in

education, and profession. From my conversation with one of my friends who is attending the

Worcester campus, I came to understand more about the programs, and career opportunities

for students to specialize in individual fields of interest. I think I have the required dedication,

diligence and compassion for the profession and I further believe that I have the necessary

skill set to provide patient care and drug knowledge to the community and society.

I have made up my mind that MCPHS at Worcester is the school from where I would like to

pursue my Doctorate degree in Pharmacy. I am also certain that this program will guide me to

become a qualified pharmacist, and I hope the admission will give me a chance to become a

part of MCPHS.

Question - Please explain any withdrawals, failures, or leaves of absence on your transcripts.

Answer - I withdrew from Biochemistry, got non-credit in the Biochemistry supplement class

in fall 2005, and got another non-credit in Psychology in spring 2005 due to some family

issues. In the beginning of 2005, my dad had to go back to Burma to attend my grandfather’s

funeral, but I had to stay behind because of my mother’s heath condition. Six months after

my father’s departure, I had to work an extra job on campus as a stockroom student assistant

besides working two part times jobs, and doing chores at home because of the stressing

financial needs of the two of us. My dad couldn’t come back to United States early because

he lost his green-card on the way back to Burma. I had to apply for the re-entry permit and it

took him about one year to finally come back to United States. During that year, I could not

focus on my classes very well since I had to take up a paternal role until my father’s return.

Despite the troubles I tried my level best to pass other classes, handle everything valiantly,

and not to give up my ambition of going to Pharmacy school. I feel ashamed for getting a W,

and for not getting good grades in other classes as well, but I am deeply proud and satisfied

for fulfilling all the responsibilities of my family. But in the end, I did achieve good grade in

Biochemistry class, got credit in Biochemistry supplement class in the following semester

and got a B in Psychology class.

My only W comes from my Physics class that I took during my High School year at City

College of San Francisco. Since I started my High School at 10th grade, my science courses

credits weren’t transferred from Burma to here. As I did very well in all my Math classes and

other science classes, my high school counselor insisted me to take Physics at City College in

summer so I can catch up with all the other junior students, and more importantly could earn

a High School Physics credit. As I wasn’t aware of the teaching system, the duration of the

class period, and was not exposed to the fast learning experience, in the end I decided to

withdraw from the class. Then, I took Physics during my senior year at High School.

Question - Explain any social, cultural, economic or educational factors that may have

influenced your academic success and how did you overcome it?

Answer - The difference in currency value initially caused financial problem to my family

after our arrival in United States. We have brought money with us to live in US, but

unfortunately it was adequate only for about three months’ rent of an apartment. Therefore,

my dad and I decided to work to support our family, my mother could not work because of

her mental incapacity. I had worked during my high school, and college besides having the

additional responsibility of taking care of family chores, and my mother’s illness. I had

always been a full time student in every semester in spite of my domestic responsibilities and

working at two part time jobs. This is why, I believe that I posses the ability and

determination to overcome the hardships of life and have the required mettle to handle the

stressful moments.
