PIGS 132 AUCTIONEER: WILL WALLIS 07833 453482 A whopping entry of pigs forward today when more could have been sold to the advantage. More needed each sale to meet demand.
FAT PIGS Trade slightly easier today which has been reported nationally. Best types to £98 from M Pocock with other quality types to £95 twice and £90 from WJ Tinney.
STORE PIGS Quality 12 week old White store pigs to £39 from Paul Hughes who had others to £36. Coloured pigs to £31, £29 and £28 looked well sold on the trade from Faccts Farming.
CULL SOWS & BOARS A cracking entry of cull sows and boars which sold to a flying trade for all presented. Best types to £237 from P & T Reakes. All quality types over £200 with medium types over £160. Only the very small and plain under £100. More pigs wanted. Next sale of pigs is Wednesday 26th February.
DAIRY AUCTIONEER: TREVOR ROWLAND 07968 480401 Small in numbers but high in quality saw a Friesian Holstein heifer from Paul & Kay Trippick keenly contested to £1510, Jersey heifers from the same home sold to £900. Plenty of interest around the ring and more could have been sold to an advantage.
REARED CALVES (46) AUCTIONEER: CHARLIE COLEMAN 07494 588013 A good entry for an extra calender sale, with plenty of buyers out looking to source stirks. Top call today a super Angus steer from new vendors the Smith family of Hampshire met a good following to £428 with others to £405. Other strong types from George Gray sold well to £370. The Guest family’s young Angus heifers look exceptionaly well sold to £410 for young sorts. A quality run from Green Lanes Farming topped at £318 for Angus steers with heifers to £240. Their Friesian steers sold really well to £160, Hereford bulls saw constant support to top at £350 for the Baber family for good types. CALVES (171) Starts 10.00am AUCTIONEERS: TIM HECTOR 07818 056 049 CHARLIE COLEMAN: 07494 588 013 Frome is still attracting very strong numbers week in and week out with today’s entry containing large amounts of quality throughout, which has been competitively bid for from start to finish with plenty of customers looking to source calves.
CONTINENTAL BULLS TO £392/HEIFERS TO £248 Once again pure quality from the Voizey family stole the show with their Blue bull charging to £392. Plenty more calves over £300 with only the smallest medium sorts under £200. It was a pleasure to see a delightful run of Charolais from the Bullus family with bulls to £255 and heifers topping the section at £248 with others to £240 twice from the Daniel & Hole family. Blue heifers in strong demand today to £240 from the Stevens family. It was good to see calves from Denhay Farms which were well contested seeing heifers to £180 and £175. Only the very smallest under £70 with all medium sorts sailing past £170.
NATIVE BULLS TO £180/NATIVE HEIFERS TO £155 Native calves in general today have seen an uplift especially for Herefords, Joint top price to £180 from Mike Green for an Angus bull and to Cross Keys Farm for a Hereford. Angus bulls still look a roaring trade with nearly all bulls over £100. Herefords much sharper with bulls regularly falling between £140 - £100 for mixed sorts. Heifers a much improved trade to £120 with most over £50. Shorthorn heifers to £210 from Padfield & Dyke. Sire names can make a huge difference please make sure you put them on your entry form.
FRIESIAN TO £108 FLECKVIEH TO £340 Friesians still an improved trade for all grades with best sorts to £108 from
Padfield & Dyke and £95, with good sorts from the Stevens family to £94. Again
next to nothing under £20 with the majority around £40.

Bull under 41 days sponsored by Howard & Sons – Kubota,
was a Blue to £392 from RTJ Voizey & Partners. Next week

STEERS TO £1240 HEIFERS TO £1145 Our 1st of two annual Candlemas cattle sales got off to a flying start both in entries and trade. A superb consignment of cattle produced one of the fastest trades in the past 12months. Many thanks to everyone who supported this sale.
FEEDING BULLS Not too many forward for this sale but demand was excellent and all the best types were wanted. Charolais saw the top prices with 14mo to £818 from P Godwin, Calne. Simmental bulls from Paul Loudoun 9mo created lively bidding to £770. Angus rigs 9mo to £525.

YOUNG CONTINENTAL No problem at all selling the younger Continentals with a large compliment of buyers all looking for the quality types. Ian Winter saw his 6 – 10mo Limousin steers regularly over £900 and topped at an amazing £990. Owen & Valerie Dibdin saw their top quality steers and heifers to an excellent £1080 and £782. JJ Taylor continuing to present quality Limousin and Blues 12 - 15mo which were all topping £990, their outstanding 14mo Limousin heifers which were to £925. Good Single suckled Simmental steers and heifers were all sold to high levels of trade. Dave & Liz Brimble saw their 9 – 10mo steers to £800 - £865 with heifers to £635 - £665. Messers Pike from Swanage again producing the best single suckled types with their Simmental steers 10mo to £910 and heifers to £728. Dairy x Continentals produced some very strong bidding throughout and an outstanding annual consignment of 60 animals from GM & S Silvester & Son created furious bidding, their steers 12 – 15mo peaked at an incredible £1000! And regularly £820 - £910. Heifers from the same home were wanted from £700 - £765.

A large entry of Herefords for our 1st Candlemas sale which saw approximately 200 head penned. Trade was lively from start to finish and a good number of our wintered/ open yarded typical traditional Candlemas cattle were forward. Younger 12 – 15mo steers and heifers from Messrs Jeanes saw 13mo to £795 and £610 respectively. Their 19mo steer peaked at an excellent £1125. J & S Farming presented a great consignment of cattle with a 19mo steer to £1050. Other quality reared steers sold to £1070 from Mike & Bridget Cox with top honours of the day going to Jim Wild T/A Puncknowle Manor Estate selling from £1120 - £1175 (only 22mo). Bulling heifers met keen interest with 17mo heifers to £850 from RC Garraway, £855 from AJ Morgan and £880 - £975 (22mo) from Puncknowle Manor Estate and a Blonde topped at £1020 (23mo) from J & S Farming.
ANGUS A cracking entry of Angus forward today which sold to a flying trade for all
entered. Best quality 23mo Angus steers to £1240 from Puncknowle Manor
Estate who had other quality types at £1158 and £1122. Best 22mo heifers from
Puncknowle Manor Estate to £1145 who had others to £1075. Quality forward
steers to £1105 from GM & S Silvester with 18mo types to £1102 from Willow
Farm, 17mo types to £1111 from RB Bowditch & Son and JJ Taylor & Son. With
20mo types to £1085 from HN Griffin. Forward heifers to £1015 from J & W
Collins who had others to £1010. Younger 18mo forward heifers to £972 from
GM & S Silvester & Son with 18mo types to £960 from Willow Farm. Well grown
steers to £875 from RH & AE Mayo with true Candlemas types from CA Reeves
to £845. Quality farming heifers to £700 from KE & AM Rostigina and £760 from
PR Burgess.
FRIESIANS
A solid entry of Friesians forward which sold to a stronger trade for all types
entered. Best Holsteins to £878 from JB Groves. A quality bunch from PG Snell
& Sons looked well sold at £780. Other strong steers to £755 from RC Few &
Son, £730 from RH & AE Mayo and £728 from DN Pybus. Farming types to
£675 from RH & AE Mayo again and £668 from A Heath. British Friesians to
£675 from GM & S Silvester & Sons and J Trott.
FORWARD CONTINENTALS Excellent entry of several quality consignments met an outstanding trade with
generally younger cattle being offered and taking advantage of the increased
prices. 19 – 22mo steers sold well with Limousin to £1010 (21mo) from PW
Sherborne and British Blues from £1100 (19mo) from Willow Farm to £1110
(22mo) from Robert & James Bowditch. Top honours went to Peter Ross,
Dewlish with his British Blue steer to £1125 (27mo). Younger Limousin steers
wanted and best quality sold to £1080 (only 17mo) from Owen & Valerie Dibdin.
The good selection of Charolais steers sold well from £1055 to £1075 (20mo)
from Les & Tom Rogers and £1072 from Fred Crew & family. Younger
Simmental steers met keen interest selling to £1000 (17mo) from Mick Silvester
& family. The stronger entry of heifers met a faster trade with Parthanaise x
heifers selling to an excellent £1110 (21mo) from Paul Webber, Axbridge,
closely followed at £1085 for Robert & James Bowditch’s British Blue heifers.
Younger British Blue heifers sold to £970 from Martin & Clive Snell. Good
feeding Charolais heifers met a good trade from £970 to £1045 all from Les &
Tom Rogers. Limousin heifers topped £1010 (22mo) from PW Sherborne and
young Limousins with bulling potential to £795 from Robert & Jane Mayo, £782
from Neil & Sharon Glover and £770 from Jonathan Ramm & family.
