This workshop focuses on transitioning into leadership and understanding your style as a leader. Time and time again we see people being promoted into leadership roles without the skills or tools to lead and manage people. We can sink or swim. This workshop will cover some of the key fundamentals of leadership and what it means to be an authentic leader.

Additionally, leadership style is the outward manifestation of the assumptions a person makes about the people that report to them. For that style to be based on a conscious choice rather than intuition or pure reaction, one needs to understand the main options available, receive feedback on one’s own perception of their present style and consider whether or not it is appropriate. This workshop is based on the Hersey and Blanchard model of Situational Leadership.

The learning outcomes are:

• What is leadership• How do we transition into a leader• Examine the importance of leadership• Analyse the appropriateness of one’s current style in the existing situation.• Determine our style through our assessment• Encourage change or modification in that leadership style if needed.

10:20 Coping with Organisational Change in a Doing More with Less Operating Environment In a time of increasing demands on businesses, in both government and private sector it is important for us all to understand that “the past is no longer an indicator of the future”. There has been a paradigm shift in thinking from “Set and Forget” to constant and continuous innovation. As human beings we can see this in one of two ways; something to be feared and avoided or an opportunity to be embraced and acted upon. The choice is yours and yours alone, a personal perspective about the way you choose to conduct yourself within this new environment. • Fear – what is it and what does it do to you. • The worst drug in the world – it is not what you think it is and you can’t buy it on the streets or get it from a doctor. • Claiming or reclaiming your future – do you own your future; or does your future own you. • Engagement - the key to not becoming extinct • Empowerment - the feeling of “Yes, I can”
