2. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

Page 2: Document2)

Social Groups • As my opening scene is focused on a young teenager aged 15 it is

representing a young teenager

• We associate teenagers with being rude and negative and committing crimes. I used a countertype in my opening scene with Sophie because I wanted her to become as innocent and vulnerable as possible.

Research

• From doing a lot of research into different Horror films, I found that the young teenagers/children were vulnerable and innocent and this added to the effect of the opening being terrifying and building tension because of the vulnerability of the teenager and not knowing what was going to happen to them because they are so scared.

• One film I have done research on was the Evil Dead which is about a young teenager who get’s possessed by the woods and chased by the Evil Dead through the woods.

Further Film Research

• The Evil Dead in particular helped me decide on my characters that I wanted in my opening scene. It helped me decide that I wanted a young vulnerable teenager because it adds drama and tension to the overall situation of the scene.

• However I wanted to do some more relevant research into a film that would help me with my character of the older man and a villain of the scene. So I did a lot of research into a lot of different horror films with antagonists that are evil and fit the stereotype of my character that chases after Sophie in the woods. I researched into a number of different films such as Paranormal Activity and The Poltergeist which both include antagonists that are really evil.
