Birthday Dog

Our star Rex has had a splendid day having birthday treats, Pawsecco, doggy burgers, dog steak and a surprise visit from his cousins Joseph (writer) and Isaac (editor). We at Hot Dog hope he had a happy birthday and his steak was good. Love you Rex. Here we interview his owner Faye.

Did Rex like his steak? Yes he loved it, he wolfed it down. He thought it was his birthday.

Did Rex like the Hot Dog photographer visit? He loved it , he thought you were very professional.

Did Rex get many presents? He got some chicken bone treats from Nona, some bacon frazzles from grandad, some cuddly toys from Dawn and he got a bow tie and a new kong from his pawrents. He got a duck and some Pawsecco from his cousins and some dog bbq treats.

Are there many dog cakes to chose from? There was a good selection on Amazon, mostly chicken and pork flavoured. We chose a bone shaped one from Lolo pets. The sugar made him a bit crazy. He shared some with his best friend Freddie.

Did he enjoy pawsecco? He did but he had a bit of a hangover.

New owners

Danielle, Barry, Luca and Oscar are now proud owners of a Cavapoo called TJ. He’s a very cute dog. In an interview (online) Dani said that he was very reasonably priced.

• Do you think he is well behaved? Not at the minute as he’s trying to bite, when he is hungry and tired he can be a bit naughty, but usually he is good.

• Would you consider getting a friend for him? Possibly when TJ is around two years old, we were going to get another of his littermates, but we wanted him to bond with the family first.

• Does he cost a lot to keep? At the start there were lots of things we needed to buy like his lead and bed etc, but monthly costs are just food (he doesn’t eat very much) and insurance is only £10 per month.

• Is he good with children? Yes he is very good with children, he is friendly and loves to play.

• Is he good with other dogs? He is good but he loves to play and some dogs don’t like it, he is very friendly.

Owners To Be… Rachel, James and their 4 kids (Isabelle, Charlotte, Isla and Alice) are getting a Cockerpoo called Max. He is 7 weeks old right now but they can take him home when he is 8 weeks old, so they can bring him home in 1 week. Here, we have an interview with Rachel • Are you all excited about getting a dog? We are so excited, we have everything set up. • Do you think you got a good bargain ? We did, he was a great price and his mum will be

living round the corner. He will be able to see his mum in the park. One of his sisters is staying with the mum.

• Have you got a plan in place regarding training ? I’ll focus on toilet training first and I’ve written a list of things I don’t want the dog to do and I’ve read up how to stop him doing these things, so hopefully we can train him well.

• What have you bought already? A crate, a dog bed, puppy pads, a lead, a collar, his name tag (that’s a legal requirement)

• Was he your first choice breed? Yes I always said I didn’t want to commit to a dog but James wanted a Cockerpoo.

• Do you think you are ready for a dog? I do think we definitely are.

Dog Romance

Heather and John found love through Ernie their Shih Tzu, he is their beloved dog who they raised from a puppy. Here Heather tells Hot Dog her story.

Ernie is five years old and Heather lived happily with Ernie as a pup. She joined a dating app to meet people and chose a photo of her and Ernie as her profile picture. John’s profile caught her eye as he had a photo of him and his Shih Tzu, Dusty. It was their love of Shih Tzus that helped to bring them together. Heather and John now live in Wollaton with their two children and dog Ernie. They are to be married next May 2021.

Dog SitterKaren is a dog lover but cant get a dog because she cant commit to one currently. So Karen got to know a different dog called Rex and she had an interview with us at Hot Dog.

Would you consider getting a dog? I would love to have one but I am not in a position to at the moment with work and my partner not being as keen on dogs. I would have one under different circumstances, maybe when I retire.

Is it hard to dog sit ? No its really easy because I know Rex well now. I was worried at first about letting him off the lead, but he is well trained. I like looking after him without the responsibility of being a full time dog owner.

Do you like dog sitting? I love it, its lovely -like having my grandchildren.

Does Toni like rex? He’s not a dog lover but I take care of Rex when he is here.

Do you want another Grandpup? I would love another one.

Big Dog

Labrador owner Mike Parker owns a Labrador called Princess.

Princess is an old age dog at 11, she is playful loving and kind. She loves being groomed and is a brilliant walker. She loves Bird’s cobs, pork pies and sausage rolls. She loves to walk in the woods near her home and sometimes goes with Mike’s grandchildren.

Sad story written by Karen…a true story

Just to get some balance to your stories, not all dogs are loved and cared for like Rexie and TJ and the others.

This is a dog I made friends with in Italy, his owners hadn’t even given him a name, but I called him Laddie. At

first he was very frightened of me as I think most humans he had known had been very cruel to him. In time he

began to trust me, I gave him food and water and he even trusted me enough to let me brush his scruffy coat.

His favourite dinner I made was scrambled eggs with sausages I was sad when I had to say goodbye to him

when I had to come back to England for work.

When I went back to Italy a year later, I was really looking forward to seeing Laddie again.

However, I was in for a terrible shock, I hardly recognised him. He was very thin, all his hair had fallen out and

he looked very sad and poorly. His owners wouldn’t take him to the vet and said I couldn’t take him either. Sadly

he died that summer. At least he had a bit of kindness from me in his life.

Not all dogs are treated well and that makes me sad
