IN THE COMMUNITY

Kids will never forget their first live hockeygame: the 17,000 seat arena, the 100 mile-an-hour slap shots and the roaring cheer when the

home team puts the puck in the net. That is why theEdmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF)offers the Seats for Kids Program, in order to give kidswho are experiencing extraordinary challenges, achance to forget about their troubles and enjoy a nightthat will be engrained in their memories for years tocome.

“This program has been really great; the kids areecstatic when they go to an Oilers game for the firsttime,” said Therese Lorincz-McRae, OperationsManager at the Boys and Girls Club of Edmonton. “Alot of these kids have to deal with poverty issues likewhen their next meal is going to come or where theyare going to sleep. When they get these tickets, itmeans the world to them.”

Currently there are nine boys and girls clubs acrossthe city of Edmonton which service over 5,000 kidswho face a reality of poverty, mistrust and abuse.Through the Seats for Kids program, the EOCF isproviding an opportunity that is not otherwiseavailable.

“The Seats for Kids program is a meaningful programthat exposes youth to live Oilers hockey where theycan have some fun and forget about their day-to-daychallenges,” said Natalie Minckler, Executive Directorof the EOCF. “We are overwhelmed by the generosityof businesses and individuals across Oil Country whomake this program such a huge success.”

The 2009-10 Seats for Kids program will provide kidsthe opportunity to attend Oilers games through 27charitable organizations within Oil Country. For many

of these kids, this will be their first Oilers game atRexall Place. The Seats for Kids program worksthrough ticket donations from Oilers seat purchaserswho are unable to attend the game. The EOCF thenredistributes these tickets to children’s charitableorganizations.

Unused tickets can be donated to the Seats for Kidsprogram three business days before the game date toLindsay Dvornik at the Oilers Administrative Office at11230 - 110th Street or at the Game Day Office atRexall Place. For those who would like to support theprogram, but do not have tickets, you can earmark afinancial donation to the EOCF to purchase tickets forthe program. For more information on the Seats forKids program, visit the community page atedmontonoilers.com. One ticket can mean the worldto young Oilers fans.
