2012 Growing Great Trees In The DesertMost scientists agree that the global climate is changing, and already we can feel some of the predicted heat and drought effects. Our trees feel these effects as well, and for the most part they’re not happy about it! Join us to learn what these changes mean for our urban forests and what steps we can take to help our trees survive and even thrive in our hot, dry climate.
About Think TreesThink Trees New Mexico is a non-profit organization that promotes education, training, and appreciation of arboriculture and horticulture. Think Trees New Mexico provides training to professionals in the Green Industry of New Mexico and surrounding regions.

66 DinerAnyone walking into the rebuilt 66 Diner now officially designated Historic Route 66 in Albuquerque, NM, will find it reassuringly the same. The atmosphere, from the black and white tiled floor with a built-in hop scotch game, to the hot pink and florescent turquoise decor accents reflects the 50s era. The daily blue plate specials and antique Route 66 signs along the wall map of the Mother Road convince the hungry diner that the jukebox has hardly skipped a beat. It’s deja vu of a bygone rendezvous favorite.

Volunteers: An Untapped ResourceThe involvement of volunteers are essential to the vision, spirit, and quality of life in any community. The city of Rio Rancho’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Depart-ment and its Keep Rio Rancho Beautiful Division recently launched a tree steward program for the community.
Participants in the program received training by local ISA Certified Arborists from Bernalillo County Extension Office, Trees of Corrales and the University of New Mexico in arboricul-ture. Participants were asked to volunteer for a year to help the city plant and take care of trees in public parks, in exchange for technical training. Twenty-five volunteers successfully completed the training and were recently certified as official City of Rancho Tree Stewards. The program is also made possible through support provided by Keep America Beautiful and the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department.
