It is the time to welcome monsoon & get relief from the heat. We also take this opportunity to welcome decision of our parent body IMA to provide

thus the platform for hosting 89 IMA National Conference "IMA NATCON 2014" , which will be hosted in Ahmedabad after 25 years. This year IMA state conference GIMACON will be merged with IMA NATCON. We at AMA feel obliged & thank IMA-HQ for giving us this prestigious project.

We will try to make this national conference a unique knowledge sharing platform through scientific programs & lectures by reputed national and international faculty. Needless to say, entertainment will be a part of this annual meet including spouse programs, lucky draw, gala dinner with some fine entertainment programmes & many more... stLadies club organized its 1 annual conference "O... O... WOMENIA" on 8th June for all member wives, which was a big success attended by more than 180 delegates. Our heartiest congratulations to office bearers & all members of ladies club.

p.m. on 12-7-2014, Saturday, along with Rs. 500/- for

the post of President, Rs. 250/- for other office bearers

and Rs. 100/- for Managing Committee Members, (non

refundable)

3. Last date for withdrawal of nomination is 16-7-2014,

Wednesday before 3.00 p.m.

4. It is compulsory to cast as many votes as the number of

posts are, otherwise the Ballot paper shall be considered

invalid for the particular post as per the constitution.

Q : What is anaesthesia ?

A : Anesthesia is a treatment with certain medicines that puts you into a deep sleep so you do not feel pain during surgery. When you receive these medicines, you will not be aware of what is happening around you.

Q : Which are the types of anaesthesia?

A : Local anesthesia, on the other hand, involves numbing a specific part of the body to prevent any feeling of pain during surgical procedures by applying anesthetic drugs

General anesthesia is the administration of general anesthetic agents that make a person unconscious and unable to feel pain –

Regional anaesthesia : This affects a part of the body such as limb or lower half of the body. Spinal/Epidural anaesthesia involves injection of the medication in the back (Spine) through a very fine specialized needle. Now-a-days epidural is very popular technique for relief of postoperative pain and for painless labour.

Nerve Blocks : One or group of nerves can be selectively blocked for operation, and used also for pain relief for chronic pain.

Monitored anaesthesia care : Here the patient receives local anaesthesia together with sedation. Anesthesiologist is constantly monitoring the patient.

A : General anesthesia is a safe way to stay asleep and pain-free during surgical procedures

Q : Risks and complications

A : For the most part, healthy adults should have some mild and temporary symptomswith general anesthesia. Rarely, general anesthesia can cause lung infections, stroke, heart attack, and even death.

A : Smoking,Obesity,Diabetes,High blood pressure, Drugallergies, Alcoholabuse, Heart conditions, Sleep apnea, Kidney problems

Q : What to do before the Procedure?

A : Always tell your doctor regardingpregnancy,drug history and dental problems.

During the days before the surgery :

• complete medical history,allergies, health conditions, medications, and history of anesthesia.

• to stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, warfarin (Coumadin), and any other drugs that make it hard for your blood to clot.

• which drugs you should still take on the day of your surgery.

• Always try to stop smoking.

On the day of your surgery :

• asked not to drink or eat anything after midnight the night before the surgery. This is to prevent you from vomiting

• Take the drugs your doctor told you to take with a small sip of water.

Q : What happens after the Procedure ?

A : You will have a dry mouth, sore throat, or feel cold or restless until the anesthesia wears off. They will take a few hours. Sometimes nausea and vomiting can be treated with other medicines.

Q : How is regional anesthesia different from general anesthesia ?

A : In general anesthesia, you are unconscious and in regional anesthesia, your anesthesiologist makes an injection near a cluster of nerves to numb the area of your body that requires surgery so you have no pain but still you are conscious.

Q : If I choose regional anesthesia, does that mean I am awake during the surgery?

A : You may remain awake, or you may be given a sedative.

Q : What are the different types of blocks performed for regional anesthesia?

A : spinal anesthesia and epidural anesthesia means injections made

with great exactness in the appropriate areas of the back.

Peripheral nerve block means injections made with great exactness near a cluster of nerves to numb the appropriate area of your body extremity (arm, leg, head) that requires surgery.

femoral nerve block, which is produced by injection in the leg region,

brachial plexus block, which is produced by injection in the arm and shoulder region.

Q : May I request what type of anesthesia I will receive?

A : Yes, in certain situations only. Your anesthesiologist, after reviewing your individual situation, will discuss any available options with you.

Q : After the patient is given anaesthesia,is the anaesthesiologist job done?

A : No. Their responsibility begins then. They are very much with the patient monitoringlike blood pressure,pulserateand breathing, providing pain relief and see that the patient recoversfrom anaesthesia safely after the surgery.

Q : Will I be given Chloroform ?

A : No!! Chloroform is obsolete. Modern Anaesthesia offers multiple options as discussed before.

Q : Over dosage of anaesthesia?

A : Very commonly used term amongst the public .The risk is determined by patient’s health status, nature of surgical procedure and anaesthetic technique. Emergency procedures have more risk than elective.

Q : NO SPINAL for my Surgery as it causes backache !

A : Now a days with smaller gauge spinal needle,chances of backache is very rare.

Q : Is the anaesthesiologist’s role restricted to operation Theatre ?

A : The practice of Anaesthesiology is broad and transcends the operating room. They Deal with pain management.critical care units and emergency rooms and offer painless labour to expectant mothers.

Q : Anesthesia Awareness :

A : Anesthesia awareness happens when you have been consciously sedated and are sleepy but still slightly awake,can’t move or talk because the paralytic drugs are still in effect.. You can’t feel any pain.
