MESSAGE
I am honoured to be asked to pen a few words for the Ecobuild Southeast Asia 2018. Judging from its success in previous years, Ecobuild is once again set to be a significant event in the international construction industry calendar. Under the 11th Malaysia Plan (2016-2020), Malaysia will invest heavily in infrastructure, industrial parks and residential buildings. The Malaysian construction industry is expected to continue to expand in real terms, supported by plans to improve the country's transport network and tourism infrastructure, and increase the volume of renewable projects. Moreover, efforts to address the country's housing shortage will help the industry to grow over the next five years. With over RM83bil worth of infrastructure jobs awarded last year, 2018 will be a busy year indeed for the construction sector in Malaysia. Hence, Ecobuild Southeast Asia 2018 comes at a most opportune time to serve as a platform for networking and sharing of ideas and knowledge on the latest technology and developments in the construction industry. As a professional institution dedicated to promote the science and profession of engineering and to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas related to it, The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) is indeed proud to be associated with Ecobuild Southeast Asia 2018. I must congratulate Ecobuild Southeast Asia for its commitment in organising Ecobuild Southeast Asia 2018 and I wish this event every success.
IR. DR TAN YEAN CHIN PRESIDENTThe Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM)
It is my pleasure and honour to welcome all of you to the International Construction Week (ICW) and Ecobuild Southeast Asia 2018. ICW is the premier annual event covering the full spectrum of the construction industry across Malaysia and Southeast Asia. We are delighted to be entering the fifth year of partnership with UBM in featuring Ecobuild Southeast Asia as the exhibition component of ICW.
This year, we have chosen the theme Achieving Peak Productivity, in line with the third strategic thrust of the Construction Industry Transformation Programme (CITP), which is productivity. As such, the ICW 2018 will be filled to the brim with programmes and activities that promote the use of technology and innovation to enhance construction productivity.
For the first time, we are introducing the two-day International Construction Transformation Conference, which will feature world-class speakers in the areas of technology and productivity. We will also introduce a bigger Construction Career Fair this year, to highlight opportunities in construction Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Most definitely, apart from Technology and Innovation, manpower development is a very critical aspect in echancing productivity of the construction industry.
I encourage all industry players to join us at ICW2018. I am confident that whatever your specific needs and interest related to construction industry, you will be sure to find it in ICW2018.
DATO’ IR. AHMAD ‘ASRI BIN ABDUL HAMIDCHIEF EXECUTIVEConstruction Industry Development Board(CIDB Malaysia)
Greetings and a warm welcome to all exhibitors, participants and delegates to the International Construction Week (ICW) and Ecobuild Southeast Asia 2018 with the theme “Achieving Peak Productivity”.
The Construction Industry Transformation Plan (CITP) which sets important goals and milestones to bring Malaysia’s construction industry to the next level aims to transform the construction industry, offers tremendous opportunities to increase the reach, effectiveness and comprehensiveness of training and development to raise it to world class levels which will benefit all industry players. In addition to this, the CITP aspires to increase productivity by enhancing the knowledge and the quality of our human capital by accelerating capabilities and capacities building into highly skilled workers.
This year marks ICW’s 18th edition in bringing construction industry players to showcase, build partnerships, share innovative ideas and learn from cutting-edge technologies developed in the construction of buildings and infrastructure on a sustainable manner.
Finally, I would like to wish you all of you a rewarding and enjoyable experience at the International Construction Week 2018 and Ecobuild Southeast Asia 2018.

ACHIEVING PEAKPRODUCTIVITY
PROGRAMMES2018
The primary intention of then design competition is to provide students of architecture and civil engineering in Malaysia with the unique opportunity to collaborate in a building design that employs steel as the main structural and finishing material. It is for these students to grasp the fact that building design does not lie within the jurisdiction of the architect or civil engineering individually, but it means for them to arrive at a meaningful realization of both architectural fascination and structural manifestation. It aims to bridge the gap between the training of architecture and civil engineering and civil engineering.
For 2018, the competition is entitled “REIMAGINE: MRT STATIONS” with the acronym ReMS.In respecting an existing condition, REIMAGINE aims to take a step in the direction of socially, economically and environment viable solutions. All design strategies should be tailored with the gold of modernization with regards to sustainability, constructability and functionality.
Fire Safe Buildings - Are There Safer Building Construction Materials?
There had been many major high-rise fires in recent years. With the advancement in material, engineering, science and technology, we expect things to get better. But why such devastating fires seem more prevalent now? And when it happens, these fires seem to have taken another form? This session would touch on building material, fire test and testing standards that is available. It would present options which architect, engineers and specifiers can consider in selecting a safer building material.
