Noëlle Mann read music at Goldsmiths College, London, where she began researching the znamenny chant of the Russian Orthodox Church. In 1993 she founded the Kalina Choir, the first UK choir to perform only Russian music. It was through practical work with choirs that Noëlle developed her research and expertise in performance practice. Her musicological interests embraced Russian choral music as a whole and the life and work of Serge Prokofiev in particular. She was the Founding Curator of the Prokofiev Archive at the Centre for Russian Music, Goldsmiths College. Sadly, Noëlle died before the publication of this volume.
