I grew up with my Grandfather’s Dobermann bitch who accompanied me, from my stroller/pram days, through to primary school. Later on my parents had a Rottweiler bitch and then a German Shepherd bitch. In 1973 my parents have me my first personal dog, and ADRK papered Rottweiler bitch Catja v. Grindsbruch. In 1974 I joined the ADRK. I bred my first litter in 1977. Since then, I have bred 30 litters and have taken several dogs to ZTPs and Körung. Since my beginnings in dog sport, I have trained more than a dozen dogs, passing VPG at levels 1-3 and FH. Most of these dogs were bred by me. In 1986 I won Sieger der LG – Auscheidung der LF Rhienland with Dago v. Heltorfer Forst. In the years 1984, 1986 and in 2002 I showed homebred and trained dogs at the ADRK German Championships. I had and still have different roles at the LG 07 Rheinland. In the 1990’s I was the Training Warden of the LG and from 2004-2006 I was Bred Warden. Since 2006 I have been First Chairman of the LG Rheinland. I have been an ARDK Breed Judge since 2007. My wife Gabi has supported me since 1994 and has been in the breed since 1982. Gabi has trained several Rottweilers and taken them through VPG exams and ZTPs. Our daughter, Svenja, has been helping with raising and conditioning our puppies since 2000. She is particularly fond of our bitch, Kirke.



Judge: Obedience Trial – Mr Ross Carlson – Victoria, Australia Ross grew up and has been involved with dogs his whole life. His mother trained German Shepherds and Labradors and the family raced greyhounds. In 1998 he purchased his first dog when he was 14 (a Border Collie) and has been actively competing in a variety of disciplines since including Obedience, Rally O, Tracking, Herding and Conformation. Ross entered the Judges Training scheme in 2004 obtaining his full panel Herding licence followed in 2006 with his Obedience licences, finishing in 2010. He is qualified to Judge all levels of Herding, Obedience, Rally O and Endurance and has judged extensively in the home state of Victoria as well as in NSW, TAS, WA, ACT and SA.

In 2015 Ross was the Judge at the Sydney Royal and in 2017 ventured up to Coffs Harbour for his first appointment there. While he has judged extensively he has also been an active participant in a wide field of competition with his Australian Shepherds. In 2012 Ross began his involvement with Australian Shepherds and has since attained nine Champion titles, four Dual Champion titles and multiple titles in Obedience, Rally O, Herding and Tracking. He has successfully bred three litters and continues to achieve well with his team under his Eliteview prefix. In 2016 Ross and his wife Renee welcomed their first child to the dog world and little Ashley has been a regular at dog shows and competitions. This next generation dog handler will be out and about in due time.

Judge: Rally O Trial – Mrs Kim Houlden – Victoria, Australia I became hooked on obedience after we brought home our first Golden Retriever in 1988. I took her to our local obedience club and watched other members training for UD and Open and decided that’s what I wanted to do. I took up tracking with our second Golden and after competing; helping out and stewarding at trials for years I gained my Tracking licence in 2004. I was later encouraged to start obedience judging and gained my CCD licence in 2008, after twelve months I chose not to go any further as I decided I wouldn’t have enough time for my own dogs. I then added licences for Track and Search in 2009, Rally Obedience in 2011 and Novice & Open Obedience in 2015 & 2016. I am planning to continue with UD & UDX licences next year.

Judging these disciplines during the year and taking part in Conformation shows keeps me very busy. I now have four Dual Champions (Tracking) who have also gained their Track & Search Grand Championships, the eldest of these four has Obedience & Rally O titles also & the younger dogs will hopefully compete in these disciplines soon. I am looking forward to judging Rally Obedience at the Rottweiler National; we should have a lot of fun!!



Judge: Herding – Ms Karen Edwards – Victoria, Australia I have been training, handling and competing with dogs for nearly 30 years. My first dog (in the late 1980’s) was a Groenendael. Her difficult temperament sent me in search of a training method that was not purely force. I joined my local obedience school and found I had a knack for assessing, reading and understanding dogs and quickly went through their instructor’s course. I trained many different breeds and on request I soon began training member’s dogs and competing with them in the Obedience setting and further as a private trainer. With many of these I also competed in conformation showing. Through contacts in the obedience field I met one of the best Animal Film and TV trainers in Australia. His mentorship over the following years was invaluable and non –comparable to dog training courses on offer at that time. His methodology promoted a calm, consistent, confident approach to training that created a much better working relationship with the dogs. I worked on

many commercials and television series during this time with a wide variety of dog breeds and animals. My love for Belgians continued as I added a Tervueren and a Laekenois to my family. My Laekenois became the most highly awarded show Laekenois in Australia – a Title he still holds to this day. We had no more to prove showing so I turned towards herding to see if they could do what they had been bred for, both physically and mentally. Finding suitable trainers with a training methodology to fit my new training mindset was difficult as few trainers were willing or had the ability to train our ANKC loose eyed, upright pure bred dogs. I spent a lot of time researching herding training methods. Kate Dourley and I joined up to form a partnership in Double K Herding Training. There are no training courses you can take for herding so we sourced some of the top trainers overseas to learn a more suitable method. We have had some of the top trainers visit us here in Australia and likewise I have visited them overseas to further my training (Lynn Leach, Trudy and Dave Viklund, Marti Parish, Patrick Shanahan to name a few). Herding has become more than just a hobby but has become a passion of mine. Double K now run herding clinics most weekends of the year and occasionally Interstate. I have worked or trained most herding breeds including a Koolie (my top dog) just retired at 10 years with her Herding Championship and Advanced titles on 2 stock type over 2 course types and numerous High in Trial Awards. I am currently training a USA working line Australian Shepherd and a ½ working line Australian Cattle Dog. Both dogs were either imported (Aussie) or bred with imported semen with their breeders focus on improving the work ethic in our ANKC breeds in Australia. Something I am very passionate about. After training and trialling for several years becoming an ANKC Herding judge was a natural progression. I enjoy judging but my primary love is in training. My goal is to provide an opportunity for owners to participate in herding that will not only help improve the work ethic, type and function in our pure bred dogs but will also show case herding. Rottweilers are considered to be one of the oldest European stock dogs and yet were only accepted into the ANKC herding program in 2009. I am so pleased to see that several dedicated breeders and owners within the Rottweiler community have embraced ANKC herding and are showing that despite a long absence from this type of work, the Rottweiler is a capable and instinctive droving dog that is a natural gatherer, easily controls their stock and can work effortless long distances. They are a wonderfully versatile breed that should always be recognised firstly as a more than capable stock dog as reflected in its long history. It is an exciting time in ANKC herding with several Rottweilers now competing on cattle, sheep and ducks over two course types. They really are a pleasure to train and a pleasure to watch working.



Judge: Herding – Mrs Kate Dourley – Victoria, Australia I have owned pedigreed Australian Shepherds since meeting my first in 1992. My cousin Rose and I purchased a pup from the first Aussie litter born in Victoria in 1994 and after importing foundation stock from the US we began breeding under the Rozate prefix in 2000. We enjoy producing dogs that are fit for standard; able to do the job they were bred for and also able to live in a modern context. I began herding in 1998 with my Aussie Storm and trained and trialled in the earliest part of the ANKC program. I gained my judges licence and have been a member of the Victorian Herding Subcommittee for many years. I work with Karen Edwards under the banner Double K Herding to provide herding training specifically tailored for ANKC breeds and herding competition.

Judge: Herding – Ms Hannah Barry – Victoria, Australia I am a certified and VIC Government accredited dog trainer, currently teaching obedience classes, private behaviour consultations and herding lessons. Herding is my passion and I have worked with a large variety of working line and ANKC breeds, including Rottweilers, Australian Shepherds, Smooth Collies, Border Collies and Kelpies. I have been involved with ANKC Herding as a competitor since 2006 and have titled 3 dogs, the highest achievement being a Herding Championship on my now retired Kelpie, Cash, who gained titles in Sheep, Ducks and Cattle during his career. Working Kelpies are the main breed I own, however my first Herding dog was a mix and I am just starting to train my Australian Cattle Dog who will be heaps of fun.

Judge: Herding – Claire Stipic – Victoria, Australia I have owned Border Collies for the past 10 years, and in that time have trained and trialled in several disciplines. Having only dabbled in herding with my second Border Collie, when my youngest dog, Hamish, came along and showed major interest in sheep I knew that we had to commit to doing what he was bred for – Herding! Over the last 5 years I have been learning as much as I can about the sport of herding and spending time with the wonderful herding community in Victoria. I am a member of the Victorian Herding Association and the Herding Trial Secretary for the Border Collie Club of Victoria. Last year I decided that I wanted to support the sport our dogs are bred to

do as best I could so I embarked on becoming a judge of Herding Test Levels. Since then I have had the privilege of seeing many dogs work in the test levels and move on their way to their Herding Trial careers. I am really looking forward to seeing Rottweilers from across the country begin their Herding careers at the 27th Rottweiler National.

THE SURVEY

A. CLASSIFICATIONS

Pass – Suitable For Breeding

(Allocated to all dogs that pass all areas

of the breed survey) A dog that receives

a pass rating is not permitted to present

at future breed surveys. Where this has

occurred in the past, it is only the first

result that is

recognised

Fail – Not Suitable For Breeding

(Allocated to dogs that possess a breed

disqualifying fault or are assessed as

having an unacceptable temperament) A

dog that receives a fail rating is not

permitted to be represented at future

Breed Surveys.

Re-present - Dogs may re-present on 2

more occasions (Allocated to those dogs

that are eligible for representing) A dog

that cannot complete the breed survey

following the 2 represents is deemed to

have failed the breed survey

B. ANATOMICAL

CONSTRUCTION

1. Each dog is to be presented

individually and positively identified.

2. The dog will then be weighed,

measured, eye color assessed, teeth and

bite examined. The results are to be

immediately transcribed onto the survey

form by the officiating surveyor.

3. The officiating surveyor will then

complete a written critique on the

general appearance, attitude,

constitution, conformation, movement,

and fitness levels of the dog

4. Double handling will be permitted;

however, the surveyor may stop the

practice if in their opinion, the practice

is hazardous or unruly.

C. CHARACTER &

TEMPERAMENT ASSESSMENT

a. The Gun Test (Reaction to loud and

sudden

noises)

Each dog is to brought into the

assessment area individually wherein the

handler will be asked to heel their dog

on a loose lead towards a crowd of 6

people.

As the dog and handler approach the

crowd, the surveyor/steward will fire

two (2) shots in succession at a distance

of not less than ten (10 meters from the

dog.

The dog is allowed to be startled by the

noise but must quickly recover and must

continue heeling with the handler. The

dog is not allowed to show signs of fear

or nervousness. The surveyor may if

deemed necessary, request that more

shots be fired.

The dog’s reaction to the sudden noise is

to be documented on the survey form by

the surveyor

b. The Crowd Test

The dog and handler are to proceed

through the crowd (10-15 persons)

which is milling about and then both the

handler and dog are to stop in the middle

of the crowd at which time the dog is

instructed to sit. The crowd

will then form a large circle around the

dog and handler, then move in on the

handler and dog at a rapid pace and

completely surround them.

Upon instruction from the surveyor, the

crowd will move away from the dog and

handler. A further request will be made

by the surveyor for the crowd to move in

and surround both the dog and handler a

second time.

Finally, the surveyor will instruct the

crowd to move away from the dog and

handler who will then heel away from

the crowd.

The dog shall not show signs of

aggression or nervousness. Natural

curiosity, sniffing etc, is permitted.

The surveyor will document the dog’s

reaction to this pressure situation on the

survey form.

If a dog shows/presents any unprovoked

aggression towards any person or

persons or attempts to, or bites any

person, the dog will automatically

receive a fail rating and will take no

further part in the breed survey.

Note: This is applicable at any time

throughout the Breed Survey test.

c. Character & Temperament

Assessment

At the completion of the crowd exercise,

the handler will walk with his dog to a

pre determined spot approx twenty (20)

meters from a hiding place. The handler

will be required to remain stationary and

allow the dog freedom of movement to

the extent of the lead.

On the surveyors signal, a helper will

emerge and challenge the handler. After

allowing reaction time for the dog, the

helper will run diagonally across and

stop in a position approx fifteen (15)

meters away and challenge the handler a

second time.

From this position the helper will run

diagonally and stop approx ten (10)

meters away and challenge again.

The helper will then continue directly

toward the handler and dog in a

threatening manner to a distance of a

minimum three to five (3-5) meters, or

until the surveyor instructs the helper to

stop the threat.

As the focus is on the reaction of

untrained dogs to this assessment, the

dog must not attempt to flee or show

signs of fear, nervousness or aggression.

A lack of reaction is also considered

undesirable.

The dog’s reaction to this

situation/exercise is to be recorded on

the survey form by the surveyor.

Hip/Elbow, Eye and Mouth Certificates 3. Certificates detailing conformation and/or working titles 4. Documentation signed by a vet confirming accidental damage to the dog.

IMPORTANT On the day, you will need to bring along the ORIGINALS, which are to be verified against the entry details, held by our Breed Recorder. By having the copies in advance, we can prepare our forms ahead of time to facilitate the Survey process. Copies of documentation are to be attested as true and correct by a Justice of the Peace. Parking: A specific entry and exit for exhibitors and spectators at our show will be set up. A farmers/craft market will running on Sunday 5 November, Akoonah Park will be very very busy. Parking for vehicles, including dog floats will be available on and around the show oval itself. More detail will be released soon.



Alcohol Policy: Akoonah Park run under the City of Casey Local Laws. I have also confirmed this with the Victoria Police Liquor Licencing Unit. (That would be a NO drinking policy) City of Casey Local Laws #2-2010/Section 42 Alcohol (1) A person must not in or on any reserve or road, except with a permit or under a lease granted by Council, have in his or her possession any liquor in an unsealed container. If an Authorised Officer avers that any liquid is or may be liquor, the averment is evidence that the liquid is liquor. (2) Sub-clause (1) does not apply to a person who is at a function or venue where a licence under the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998 has been issued.

Dog Poo: Please immediately clean up after your dogs. There are numerous rubbish bins within Akoonah Park for your convenience. The RCV have provided Pooper Scoopers to assist the clean up.

Security: Akoonah Park is open to the public 24 hours a day. There are many entry points via vehicles and on foot. Akoonah Park management have security patrols throughout the day and night. Please ensure you take great care of your personal possessions.

Gradings: Guidelines for the Grading of Rottweilers in Specialty Breed events: Compiled (and updated) by past Chief Breed Judges of the ADRK, in accordance with general practice of the VDH. Breed judges may award the following gradings to puppies below 12 months: Very Promising “VP” Promising “P” Little Promise “WVN” The following gradings may be awarded to dogs 12 months and older: Excellent “V” Very Good “SG” Good “G” Not Sufficient “NGGD” Non-gradeable “OB” Do note that it is usual for ADRK judges not to award anything higher than an “SG” to dogs under the age of 24 months. (In the case of a dog/bitch being of very outstanding quality, they may however exercise their right to award a ‘V’ to an under-two year old, and on occasion do so). Definition of Gradings: (this only applies to the age groups twelve months and over) Excellent “V” : May only be awarded to a dog which is true to the ideal Breed Standard of the Rottweiler, shown in outstanding condition and glowing, with a harmonious and balanced character and temperament and possessed of class and outstanding presence. Its superior quality as a Breed specimen overshadows any minor imperfections whilst the typical appearance of its gender is always present. Very Good “SG” : Only awarded to a dog which displays the typical characteristics of the Rottweiler in balanced proportion and in good condition. A few minor and therefore pardonable faults are overlooked, although not the morphological (type-affecting) ones. This grading can only be given to a ‘classy’ dog. Good “G” : Given to a dog which displays the main characteristics of the Rottweiler, but which has visible faults to the extent that they cannot be disguised. Satisfactory “GGD” : Given to a dog which sufficiently corresponds to the Breed Standard of the Rottweiler, without possessing the generally known characteristics of the Breed and which is lacking in condition and conformation. Not Satisfactory “NGGD” : Given to a dog which: a) is not typical of the Rottweiler type described in the Breed Standard, b) displays a character or behaviour not in line with the requirements of the Breed Standard, c) is unilaterally or bilaterally crypt orchid (i.e. missing one or two testicles), d) possesses inheritable dentition faults or a jaw anomaly, e) has colour or coat faults, or displays definite signs of albinism, f) bites or attempts to bite the judge. This grading must also be given to a dog that deviates so far from a single Breed characteristic that the health of the dog is affected, or which displays a very serious or disqualifying fault. Non-gradeable “OB” : This is given when the judge, for whatever reason, cannot examine gait, conformation, dentition, coat, testicles etc., or when signs are apparent that the dog has been treated in some way to alter or conceal some feature of the dog. The same applies when the judge is able to ascertain that an operation has been carried out to cover up or conceal some other condition.

Amenities block entry is via key pad code, please ensure door is closed at all times.

Management reserves the right to refuse entry to or evict any tenant at any time without offering a reason
