Mother’s Day Recap Thank you to Lori Wahila our Lodge’s Co-Chair for another beautiful Mother’s Day Event! Our forty guests were treated to a delicious meal and program! As always, these events would not be possible without the support of our volunteers.

• Watching Lori and her son, Joshua, was like watching a reality TV show! Their skilled chopping, dicing, mixing and tossing created a wonderful menu.

• Russ Ryan, arrived early (8:00am) to assist with the “To Do List”. This required setting up dining room, grabbing items from the shed, etc.

• ER Ken, Russ, Dino, Bill Maney, Kathy Neiss and Sue Whalen presented our Mother’s Day ceremony. Beautiful job by our officers.

• Lori’s Mom provided our delicious dessert! • Youngest Mom award was presented to Leona Stevens. Oldest Mom award to Lori’s Mom. • Guests participated in a 50/50 raffle to raise funds for the Mom’s House playground. • Bill Beck, our dishwasher loved washing all forty dainty place setting, however, as he stated, nothing is to

good for our Moms! Mother’s Day is so important to our Elk organization. It is a day of celebration and remembrance. Thank you again to all who made this possible. Submitted by Alicia Beck, Mother’s Day co-chair

TRIVIA NIGHT- FUNDRAISER FOR ENF

"Too Smart Chicks", aka Sue Whalen & Leona Stevens, will be hosting Trivia Night on Sat. June 9th @ 7:00. Entry fee is $5. per person or $20. per team of up to 6 people. Pizza will be served, but feel free to bring any additional snacks you'd like to share. Here's your chance to show off all the little-known facts you have been hanging on to and thought you'd never use! Not only will it be a fun time, but it'll help raise funds for ENF.

ENF - Each year, the Elks National Foundation strives to grant more money back to each state than it received from that state in donations. These grants help fund the state Elks associations' major charitable projects, which include aid for people with disabilities, cancer research, children's hospitals, youth camps and safe havens for abused families. The state associations also use these grants to fund their "Hoop Shoot," Soccer Shoot, Drug Awareness and scholarship programs, as well as other charitable and philanthropic projects. During the 2009-10 Lodge year, the Elks of New York donated $314,639.17 to the Elks National Foundation. This year, the Foundation will give back 542,410.00. Also I would like to congratulate Herb Flint, district veteran's service chairman and member of our lodge, for achieving honorary founder status with cumulative donations of $1000. to ENF. Thank-you, Russell Ryan, ENF Chairman

Johnson City Elks Lodge Awards $1200 in Scholarships!

In March of 2009, the Johnson City Elks started a Scholarship Fund. The plan was to do some fundraising and perhaps in a couple of years, we would have enough money to begin awarding scholarships to children and grandchildren of our JC Lodge members. The response of the membership was overwhelming and here we are, just 14 months later, giving 6 deserving students $200 each toward their future. In December of 2009, we lost the driving force behind our Scholarship fund. Not only was he a dear friend and a great member, he was the South Central District Elks and New York State Elks Association Scholarship Chairman. This program was very near and dear to his heart and as a tribute to him we have named our Lodge Program the

“Thomas Karpinko Memorial Scholarship”“Thomas Karpinko Memorial Scholarship”“Thomas Karpinko Memorial Scholarship”“Thomas Karpinko Memorial Scholarship” Our Scholarship winners were awarded on May 6 at the Youth Recognition event at our Lodge.
