From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

28th Sunday in Ordinary Time: “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” (Mark 10:25). Jesus uses tough language that we may not want to hear. But, we are all called to be generous with all our gifts. Not just the ones we pick and choose, but all our gifts: our time in prayer to God, our talent in participating in parish ministries and our treasure supporting our local parish and other charities.

QAC Operating Income Report Note: Operating Income includes regular collection, rental, and interest income.

Income Expenses Difference August 2015 $ 18,840 $ 17,036 $ 1,804 Year to Date $ 32,343 $ 32,470 ($ 127)

Our fiscal year is July 1st to June 30th. Thank you for your generosity!

Wisdom 7:7-11: Wisdom (knowledge of God and perceptive insight into human life) is greater than power, riches, health, beauty. Wisdom never yields to darkness. Even though Wisdom is greater than all these good things, all these things come to those who are truly wise. Everything one sacrifices in order to seek Wisdom will be found in Wisdom’s company.

Hebrews 4:12-13: Like a lightning bolt, the word of God lights up our world with a blinding flash, showing things in sharp outline & exactly as they are. It gives a quick glimpse of reality; then we must call upon our mind & heart to apply the fleeting truth we saw to the ever-changing challenge of putting the word into daily practice. We need to return to the word of God, where we can depend on another flash of insight to help us along the dark journey.

Mark 10:17-27: The disciples wonder how Jesus can expect anyone to follow him if the demands are so great. The reassurance they get may seem meager, but it must suffice: God alone can make it possible for you. Peter points out that, indeed, the Twelve have renounced everything, so it must be possible. Jesus responds with comforting and inspiring words, not because he promises that “delayed gratification” will be great, but because he shows them that discipleship has its own immediate reward.

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week.

MARIANIST ONLINE COURSES – 2015: I don't know about you, but recent headlines of weather disasters, senseless gun violence, and the ravages of war have left me with a weary soul and heavy heart. This session NACMS offers two online courses that challenge us to remain faith-filled and hopeful as we support each other in being a positive presence in the world. Each 5-week course runs from Oct 18th-Nov 19th. Registration available thru Oct 14th. 1) Marianist Studies: Prayer reminds us to notice the Spirit of God working everywhere, including our own hearts. Together we will explore various methods and practices of individual and group prayer; 2) Marianist Studies: Social Justice explores how Blessed Chaminade's words and actions offer us wisdom as we share insights addressing the world's needs within the realities and challenges of contemporary times. Visit https://vlc.udayton.edu/register/ to register for these courses. Cost for each course is $40.00. (Choose North American Center for Marianist Studies in the diocese/partner section of the registration form for this price). Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. As always, thank you for supporting this program. Peace, Patti Gehred, Coordinator of Virtual Learning Courses, North American Center for Marianist Studies

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY COLLECTION - OCT 18th: As we have seen during the recent visit of Pope Francis, he has a real passion for the mission of Jesus, the poor, and our church. The Holy Father invites us to share in that passion by supporting his Pontifical Mission Societies on World Mission Sunday, Oct 18th. Our donations are vital to support our 1,150 mission dioceses located mostly in Asia and Africa where local priests, religious, and catechists reach out to their own faith communities, families and children. Many are in desperate need, struggling in the darkest of circumstances. Some mission dioceses need funding to rebuild after earthquakes, tsunamis and conflicts. Many are try to construct their first orphanages, seminaries, convents, clinics, and schools. So please be generous to empower our fellow Catholics overseas. Pope Francis says "gracias" for your generosity.

Dining begins at 5:30 PM in Si Lounge, followed by entertainment at 6:30 PM and Rev. Beckmann’s free presentation at 7:00 PM in chapel. Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley and the Catholic Social Action Office along with Weavers of Justice, a collaborative of Catholic parishes and organizations in the Dayton area, are coordinating the presentation. Please contact Chris Sitko, [email protected]. Individuals from various interfaith groups attend these yearly events and it would be a welcoming gesture if we have a large group from QAC to serve as hosts and guides and to hear the presentation by our distinguished speaker. Donation of $10.00 per person for dinner would be appreciated.

ADDITIONAL PROJECT FOR QAC DAY & BEYOND: Consider becoming part of “Feed the Creek,” an organization in Beavercreek with a mission to tackle childhood hunger. We know from research that even mild under nutrition experienced by young children during their critical growth impacts their behavior, their school performance and their overall cognitive development. In Beavercreek and many communities across the country, churches, community organizations, businesses, students and families are working together to make sure that children, who receive reduced cost and free lunch during the week, also have food for the weekend. One of the needs of this mission is the preparation of the food bags that are sent home at the end of each week. On a rotating Monday or Tuesday, volunteers come together for approximately 90 minutes to be part of a unique "assembly line." In an amazingly short period of time the "line" is loaded with the necessary items...and the fun begins!! With good organization and quick work, approximately 300 bags are filled. The filled bags are separated according to schools and numbers needed and with the help of many other volunteers to deliver, find their way to the schools and into the hands of students by dismissal. If you’d be interested in helping with this worthy project and would like more information, please contact Darlene Stout 426-9524 or email [email protected].

ST. VINCENT DONATIONS: Bring any useable clothing to the chapel vestibule any Sunday or drop off in marked cabinets in the hallway near the Teen Room. October request: canned vegetables & fruit (packed in juice - no heavy syrup, please!). Contact Margie/Tom Hudnell, [email protected], or 429-0320.
