Astrong interest innonprofit organiza-tions has led Mechell
Frost to dive into her newposition as the director ofHighland County's MorganBodenhamer Senior Center.
Frost began her workwith the senior center Jan. 3and has since been learningand growing within theorganization.
"I'm still learning in thisposition and have a lot ofsupport from volunteers andstaff," Frost said. "RosaleeMorgan helped me learn theropes and was my mentorhere when I first started."
Frost said the senior cen-ter also has a great board ofdirectors who are very sup-portive.
As director, Frost over-sees the programming of thesenior center and said shehopes to help lead it to suc-cess.
"I enjoy just about any-thing," she said. Mechell Frost is the director of the Morgan Bodenhamer Senior Center in Hillsboro, and oversees programming
within the organization. While she says she’s still learning a lot about the position, she also says she enjoys herjob and the members she gets to interact with.

DEARABBY: I have abeautiful wife, a dog and an8-year-old son I love towatch sports with. My sonloves sports, but he has trou-ble accepting a loss. He'lltake out his disappointmentby beating the dog.My wife doesn't want to
get rid of "Patches" becauseshe has had him since col-lege. I don't want to put myson through counselingbecause he said he'll hate meforever if I do. I'm afraid ifthe problem isn't controlled,my son's life goals may beaffected. What can I do?
-- GOOD DAD IN CLEVE-LAND
DEAR "GOOD DAD":Stop trying so hard to be yourson's sports buddy, and tryharder to be a parent. At hisage, he should be able to han-dle disappointment and controlhis anger and aggression. Donot wait another day to gethim the counseling he needs!Children who hurt animalsoften go on to hurt other chil-dren.Your son should be eval-uated by a mental health pro-fessional ASAP. By gettinghim the help he needs, youcould be saving not one buttwo lives -- his and Patches'.
DEARABBY:My motherand I were discussing the sub-ject of egg donation -- some-thing we're both in favor of. Itold her I have been consider-ing donating my eggs becauseI don't plan to have children.Mom simply stared at me inshock. Now when we talk, she
casually brings up how sheloves baby-sitting my youngcousins and my niece. I havenever particularly liked chil-dren. In fact, I prefer to live bymyself. I know my mother hasalways wanted a lot of grand-children, but being a wife andmother is not a goal of minelike it was hers. I almost feelguilty about my decision. Howdo I explain this without upset-ting her further?-- CHILDLESS BY CHOICE
DEAR CHILDLESS:Whether to have children is apersonal choice. It should notbe dictated because a parent"wants lots of grandchildren."Children deserve to be wanted. And women who do not par-ticularly want to be mothersusually make less-than-terrificones. If your mother raises thesubject, answer her honestly, but don't apologize for your
feelings. And, when she men-tions how much she enjoyedbaby-sitting your cousins andniece, smile, nod and say,"That's nice!"
DEARABBY:My cousin"Linda" loves her cats. Lastyear one of them, "Wookie,"got very sick and she had totake him to the animal hospi-tal. She sent a mass text mes-sage to all our family membersindicating she would be unableto afford Christmas giftsbecause she had to pay a cou-ple of thousand dollars onWookie's vet bills. She contin-ues to send updates on hishealth and treatment.Last week, I received an
email from Linda about a web-site she has established solicit-ing donations to cover her cat'smedical expenses. Every daysince then I have received atext or email from her or hermother asking me to donateand to tell my friends as well.I'm sorry Linda's cat is
dying, but I don't feel comfort-able soliciting friends to donatemoney for a cat who will notget better. Besides, they don'teven know Linda orWookie. How do I politely ask her tostop bombarding me with theserequests? (I think what she'sdoing is a little tacky.)
-- CAT GOT MY TONGUE
DEAR CAT GOTYOURTONGUE: Don't ask.Yourcousin is trying desperately tosave the pet she loves, and itwould hurt her already sensi-tive feelings. Send her a dona-tion for Wookie, about thesame amount you would spendon a Christmas gift for her.And when you see her requestfor soliciting your friends, hit"delete" and let it go.

GIVING BACK TO TEETHNearly everyone is aware the cav-ities form in teeth as a result of theacid produced by bacteriaeating away at tooth enamel.Whatmost people don’t know is thattooth enamel can also repair itselfto some degree. Known as“remineralization,” the processoccurs when calcium in the saliva(and fromother sources) replaceslost calcium. In order for toothenamel to repair itself in thismanner, tooth surfaces must bescrupulously clean. There mustalso be a good supply of salivaand an adequate amount ofavailable calcium. Patients canhelp themselves in two of theserespects by brushing and flossingregularly and by consumingcalcium-rich foods such as milk, yogurt, salmon, tofu, spinach, broccoli, peas, and brusselssprouts.

CELEBRITIES BORN ON THIS DAY: Dianna Agron, 26; Kirsten Dunst, 30; Kunal Nayyar, 31; Johnny Galecki, 37.HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Look around you, be observant, moni-tor your pace and make your move. Get your papers in order and remove clutter from your life. Curb habits you have let take over and shake off any ill feelings you've been harbor-ing. You must purify mentally, physically and emotionally to clear the way for success. Your numbers are 2, 9, 16, 20, 28, 33, 46.ARIES (March 21-April 19): Expand your prospects by net-working with people who share your interests. Travel or take on a challenge that will provide you with adventure or cultural knowledge. Social gatherings will enhance your love life. You are overdue to make positive lifestyle changes. TAURUS (April 20-May 20): Your family will be angry if you make changes without asking for approval. Avoid offending anyone in a position to influence your future. Excess, overvaluing your own opinion or underesti-mating a situation will be your downfall. GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Make home improvements or take care of your personal needs. Love can be enhanced, but only if you strive for equality and prepare to compromise. A regi-men that will help you achieve or maintain good health should be initiated. CANCER (June 21-July 22): Don't misinterpret what some-one is telling you or asking you to do. Limitations will prevail if you take the long route unneces-sarily. Gauge your relationships carefully and revise or let go of connections that put too much pressure on you. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): Think before making a decision or statement that may impose on an important relationship. Get involved in activities that will challenge you mentally or physi-cally. You will see a situation much more clearly if you step back and review. VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Visit a friend or get involved in an event that is conducive to meeting new people. Putting money into your home or invest-ing in your skills will help you create a better life. A colleague or peer is likely to mislead you. LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Do not spend money on luxury items. You cannot buy love and should not lend or borrow money or possessions. Concentrate on making improvements that will help you establish a better posi-tion with a healthier lifestyle. Love is on the rise. SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): You can make wise choices that will benefit you personally and professionally. A creative idea can prompt you to change, make a move or form a partner-ship that will allow you greater freedom to follow your dreams, hopes and wishes. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Slow the pace and con-sider the consequence of any move you make. Problems can be expected while traveling or dealing with people who have information you want. Strategy must be used in order to come out on top. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Deal with personal issues. Make sure the estates of elders are in order and that home and
family matters are secure and assessable. Taking the initiative ahead of time will ease your stress. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Problems involving friends, relatives or neighbors will spin out of control if you are too blatant about your feelings or too stubborn to compromise. Be reasonable and figure out how to please everyone while taking care of your needs.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): Put in extra effort to avoid criticism and complaints. Keep busy and focus on goals that will help you get ahead professionally. Personal matters are likely to aggravate you and stand in the way of your suc-cess. BIRTHDAY BABY: You are a giver, a doer and a competi-tive individual. You are ambi-tious.
