On behalf of the Organising Committee we take great pleasure in welcoming you to

Kuala Lumpur for the third edition of the Graphene Malaysia 2018.

Graphene Malaysia 2018 is jointly organised by NanoMalaysia Berhad and Phantoms

Foundation with the support from the Malaysian Ministry of Energy, Science,

Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), the Ministry of

International Trade and Industry (MITI), the Malaysian Investment Development

Authority (MIDA) and SCOPUS.

Graphene Malaysia 2018, a flagship event under Malaysia’s National Graphene Action

Plan 2020, is centered on interaction and collaborative innovation within the graphene

enhanced industry. The theme this year is Strengthening Graphene Ecosystems

Towards the National Agenda. We expect Graphene Malaysia 2018 to serve as a

platform that will catalyse the collective desire to revolutionize Malaysia’s local

innovations with graphene.

The conference features plenary sessions as well as thematic parallel sessions

presented by prominent leaders of the Graphene world, opportunities to network and

business match where participants can explore partnership potentials and an exhibition

showcasing the latest products, services and technology in the graphene field.

We would like to thank the following companies for their participation as exhibitors:

Abalonyx, Histocenter (M) Sdn. Bhd, MIDA, Vacuumtech Engineering Sdn Bhd,

inLAZER Dynamics, Nanoverify, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), MIMOS

SEMICONDUCTOR (M) SDN BHD, Crest Group of Companies, Aseptec, Universiti

Putra Malaysia (UPM), GO Advanced Solutions Sdn. Bhd, KDJ Law, NNC and UiTM.

Thank you as well to MESTECC, MITI, MIDA and SCOPUS for the support and

“There is a race to unlock the full potential of graphene and nanotechnology and

while Malaysia already has a head start, we must continue with our momentum.

Malaysia must strive to become a high-end technology producing nation that

could cater for the global market demands such as nanosensors, nanosolar

panels and lightweight graphene-based energy storage.

In the disruptive era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, we must embrace the

convergence of cyber and physical solutions and interconnection especially the

Internet of Nano-Things (IoNT) and the digital economy. Technology, particularly

nanotechnology will be the primary driver of the country’s growth agenda.”

MINISTER´S STATEMENT

"The manufacturing industry is increasingly shifting towards producing more

technologically-complex products. It is no longer enough for the manufacturing

industry to make better things - creating innovative products and services that will

meet customer needs - but also to make things better - facilitating the design

engineering, service planning and execution as well as improving the

management and production processes.

In other words, industries need to adopt a mindset of “making better things while

making things better” - which is exactly what nanotechnology does. This is where

emerging technologies such as graphene comes in. Since its discovery more

than a decade ago, graphene is becoming a potential key material for industries

such as electronics, medicine and automotive.”

MINISTER´S STATEMENT

YB DR ONG KIAN MINGDeputy Minister of International Trade and Industry

NANOMALAYSIA’S CHAIRMAN

STATEMENT

“Materials throughout history have affected the development of society as we

have seen with iron, brass and steel, and in the last two decades silicon

materials have enabled the advancement of computers and the ubiquity of

information technology. Today, the emergence of the supermaterial graphene is

set to alter the future. It is hard to imagine that a single layer of graphite which

is graphene could take some amazing properties, enough to have drastic

implications for the future of physics, engineering, and industry. This is what

inspired us at NanoMalaysia. We will continue to encourage government,

industry and academic collaboration in order that the nation will not miss the

opportunity to reap benefits from it. We are happy to co-organise Graphene

Malaysia 2018, now in its third year, as a platform for networking and

collaboration.”

NANOMALAYSIA BERHAD

NanoMalaysia Berhad was incorporated in 2011 as a company limited by

guarantee (CLBG) under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (now

known as the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate

Change, to act as a business entity entrusted with nanotechnology

commercialisation activities.

NanoMalaysia Berhad is mandated to spearhead the National Graphene Action

Plan 2020 (NGAP 2020) which will spur Malaysia’s graphene-based economy by

2020.

NGAP 2020 lays out the scope for the five most promising downstream applications

in the context of Malaysia and the implications on their relevant supply chains to

incorporate graphene between now and 2020.

Once robust commercial downstream industry begins to develop, Malaysia can

consider broad scale production of graphene given its potential competitive

advantage in having lower access costs to methane, a carbon-containing gas as a

key input factor of extracting graphene.
