Reading Builds Character 2nd Annual Bethany Elementary Read-A-Thon How it Works 1. Readathon packets are sent home with students 2. Students ask family and friends to sponsor them during the readathon 3. Read and record minutes for 2 weeks 4. Collect donations 5. Turn in readathon packets 6. Earn book fair credits and other prizes! Important Readathon Dates 9/9 School Assembly/ReadAThon KickOff for Kids! 9/12 Readathon packets go home. Students can begin asking family and friends to sponsor them. Sponsors may choose to donate per minutes read or a flat rate. No amount is too small! Keep recruiting sponsors throughout the duration of the readathon. 9/19 9/30 READ! READ! READ! Record all minutes read on Reading Log. Only reading during this time period counts toward readathon. 10/1 10/9 Collect money from sponsors. 10/10 Reading Log and Donations due! 10/17 CHARACTER BUILDING DAY! Dress up like your favorite book character and bring your favorite books to school. Students will also receive their earned book fair credits (Book Bucks) on 10/17. 10/17 10/27 Book Fair! Students can redeem their Book Bucks! Reading that Counts! Reading to self counts! Getting read to by someone counts! Reading aloud to other people counts. If you happen to read to someone who is also participating in the Read AThon, it counts for both of you! Reading aloud to a pet counts! Homework reading counts! Reading newspapers, magazines, or articles on the web counts! Reading on the bus counts! Reading before and after school counts! What does Bethany Elementary do with fundraising dollars? 100% of funds raised go to the school for activities and materials that provide educational enhancement. School improvements and learning enrichment funded by donations include GeoQuest, Art Literacy, Technology for classrooms , Field trips for every grade, Playground equipment, PE equipment, Parent Enrichment Classes, School Garden, Family Movie Nights, Homework Club, Reading Project, and so much more!

2nd Annual Bethany Elementary Read-A-Thon    

How  it  Works  1.  Read-­‐a-­‐thon  packets  are  sent  home  with  students  2.  Students  ask  family  and  friends  to  sponsor  them  during  the  read-­‐a-­‐thon  3.  Read  and  record  minutes  for  2  weeks    4.  Collect  donations    5.  Turn  in  read-­‐a-­‐thon  packets    6.  Earn  book  fair  credits  and  other  prizes!

Participants:  Every  student  who  participates  in  the  read-­‐a-­‐thon  will  receive  a  BOOKMARK!      

Top  Fundraisers:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                All  students  raising  $100  or  more  will  be  entered  in  a  drawing  to  win  a  KINDLE  FIRE!    

There  will  be  a  drawing  for  grades  K  -­‐  2  and  one  for  grades  3  -­‐  5.  

 Top  Class  Readers  &  Top  Class  Fundraisers:    

The  class  in  each  grade  that  collects  the  most  donations  wins  a  POPSICLE  PARTY!      

 Top  Class  Readers  &  Top  Class  Fundraisers:  

The  class  that  collect  the  most  donations  out  of  the  entire  school  wins  a  PIZZA  PARTY!  

 Top  6  Readers  &  Top  6  Fundraisers:  

The  6  students  in  the  school  who  read  the  most  minutes  and  the  6  highest  fundraisers  in  the  school  win  LUNCH  WITH  A  SPECIAL  GUEST  AUTHOR!      

 Top  Reader  &  Top  Fundraiser:    

The  student  who  reads  the  most  minutes  and  the  student  who  raises  the  most  money  will  win  a  $25  GIFT  CARD  TO  THE  BOOK  FAIR!  

   Everyone  Celebrates  with  CHARACTER  BUILDING  DAY  on  10/17!  

Come  to  school  dressed  as  your  favorite  book  character  and  bring  your  favorite  books  with  you!
